If the white point on the 11 pro is 'accurate' then the ipad pro, imac pro, macbook pro, and lg 5k monitor are garbage... I don't think that's the case.

I can't wait to hear the defense as to why apple's $5,000 XDR monitor looks different than this 'accurate' display on the 11 pro.

I haven't done a compare personally (have an 11), just a statement that is true. A LOT of people prefer blue whites.

Your eyes and brain do acclimate to whatever you use and it'll create bias. It's been an issue with ISF calibrations for displays.. for a long time.

I don't personally care if my phone is accurate because it's a phone. I don't watch video content on it. I don't edit photos on it, etc. But that's just my usage. What is a pain is that my other devices are accurate so if the phone is off then it messes with my brain.

Yeah. This is the reason I went with the regular iPhone 11. The display was consistent with my MacBook Pro, iPad and color calibrated BenQ SW270C AdobeRGB monitor. The XS Max and 11 Pro was noticeably yellower (without True Tone or Night Shift on). The regular 11 was more or less perfectly matched to all my other displays... That, and the lack of PWM was a clear win for the regular 11 for me.

Oh, and all my displays, except my iPad and iPhones of course, are color calibrated with an X-Rite i1Display Pro. The regular 11 was a good match. The 11 Pro and XS Max was way off. X-Rite is the industry standard for display calibration. Which means the OLED's are doing something wrong.

I chock them up to seeking approval from people they don’t know on the internet. It’s weird to me. I read these threads because they are funny. Up and down and left and right the 11 Pro is better than the 11. To each his own, but I don’t understand the need for public approval.
So condescending. This is a tech forum, where people post to discuss tech. I see people posting impressions and comparisons and it’s fun discussing and reading. So because I like the white point better on the 11 vs. the Pro that I had, that means I never intended to buy the Pro in the first place?

Glad that you found the one that works for you. The first purchase isn't always the right one.

‘It should be if he did even rudimentary research before buying. I don’t know if they do, but Apple should institute a restocking fee when people return one phone for a completely different one. Would help eliminate the tire-kickers and lazy buyers.

Yea but I bet the % of returns is small and plus it’s not Apple’s style.

I've been going back and forth over price/screen/size for the past few days and on my last day of eligibility I I went to the apple store and returned my pro max for a iphone 11. I couldn't justify the extra cost after holding both phones and comparing the size and screen. The size of the iphone 11 with a case vs the pro max with a case was close but the pro max was just a little bit too long for me in my opinion. The screen comparisons were close the slight sharpness on the oled wasn't enough for me. I hope they can keep the same screen size on the pro max next year but shrink the phone.

I went back back and worth and eventually in the opposite direction of this thread, switching the iPhone 11 for the 11 pro. Decision factors included the extra camera since it will make a great for travel. I also preferred the look of the dark green phone to the pastel options pf the 11. I do notice that that 11 pro calibration is more yellow up front but after a bit of use it seems normal.

I had a Xr for 8 months would never of got another one, got the 11 pro. Much prefer the size, better screen and camera.

My approach for choosing the iPhone 11 Pro has been: "Better pocketable Size (5.8')" --> "Extra Battery Life" --> "Extra Telephoto Camera" --> "Screen quality with deeper Black" --> "Build Quality" --> Choice= iPhone 11 Pro.

the OLED screen is very hyped up
its impossible to know how you get on with it until you use it for a few days

It is not “quite a downgrade.” Overall performance of the phones are the same, they have the same guts.

Camera- I don’t take tons of photos and don’t miss the optical zoom lens on my Pro.

Screen- I can’t stand OLED, there’s too much variance, off axis shift, black crush / smear occasionally, and low brightness issues. I much prefer the LCD of the 11. White is white and True Tone actually works as intended.

So for me the only difference between the Pro and 11 is battery. That’s it. It is perfectly adequate on the 11. No way is the Pro Max worth $500 more to me (I opted for the 256gb Pro Max and 128gb 11).

It's not OLED's fault that Apple can't be bothered paying for quality control. You can get beautiful 1080p OLED screens in $200 phones but Apple prefers to mug its customers.

Beside of OLED screen issues they have been always just screen issues years over years with iPhones: We have been able to see here huge threads on "Yellow tint issues", "Uniformity issues", "Screen lottery issues",etc. an those issues were against LCD and now more recently OLED screens.

I agree, it would certainly weed out the "it wasn't worth the extra money even though I never intended to buy it" crowd and also the, "The green color doesn't speak to me anymore after one week, I'm swapping it".
A nice $25-$50 charge might help them with their future pre-purchase research.

I received my wife’s iPhone 11 this past Wednesday and now that I’ve got more actual experience between the two phones I can say this here. I have used and handled my Pro Max since launch day, and I’ll say this.

There is a drastic difference Between these two devices. first of all, the iPhone 11 instantly gave me the impression that it was the toy version of the iPhone 11 Pro. the bezels are much thicker, and looking at the corners of the iphone 11 around the notch they are not even or equally sharp. The left side of the notch is softer, while the right side is extremely crisp and sharp looking and I’ve noticed this in general with a LCD display. The iPhone 11 is a lot lighter too.

The iPhone 11 is a great phone, but the differences are immediately notice just by handling it.

Failure to include a telephoto lens on the 11 was a deal breaker for me. Will have to stick with the XR for another year.

I returned my 11 Pro last week, I want to buy an iPhone 11 but something bothering me a bit.

Did you notice that all around the screen there was a kind of dark shadow? It is especially visible at the top, close to FaceID.

This shadow disapeared when we go into dark mode. There is no shadow at all on the oled 11 Pro. The edge of the screen is clear.

It's hard to describe but it does not seem so fine and clear. So I hesitate. Yellow screen or shaded outline.

And that's why it's imporantant to check out the phones first hand.

I handle both the Pro (wife's) and regular 11 (mine) daily. Aside from the camera and obvious size differences, they are equal to me. I couldn't disagree more in regard to the "toy" thing. They are just phones.

The 'toy' reference has been used for years by those who are desperately attempting to validate their purchase. It is laughable really. I remember when the iPhone 6 came out....along came the "5/5S feels like a toy" comments. Or certain Plus users felt the regular phones felt like a 'toy'. To think that a phone choice can have so much power over one's perceived self worth is sad.

I had the XR for the better part of last year. I really liked it. The screen was great. I personally can not tell a significant difference between that screen and my new 11 Pro. The only reason I got the pro was that my daughter had an iPhone 6 and the battery was toast, so she inherited my XR (spoiled, I know). The only thing I missed on the XR was the telephoto lens (I had an X before the XR). I assume the 11 is very similar to the XR and is a great phone. I’m not sure why so many people that don’t have experience with it have to say it’s so inferior, it’s not.

This varies by unit, I have seen this on some XR and my girlfriend's 11 has a little bit of "shadow" around the notch. My 11 doesn't have this issue or any other clarity / sharpness issue. Strongly disagree that the 11 feels like a toy compared to the Pro. It's just lighter with aluminum edges instead of stainless steel. I use a case anyway, couldn't care less.

As stated above I definitely have seen this. You can notice it on any light background. It doesn't occur on all phones as my 11 doesn't have it but my girlfriend's has a very small faint shadow along the notch.

I know when I first got an iPhone X I was not happy with the screen being too yellow tinted for my taste and compared to the iPad Pro - but in the Settings/Accessibility/Display & Text Size/Color Filters I adjusted to get as near the same colours as the iPad as I could and have been happy ever since. My custom settings have carried across to my iPhone 11 Pro.

Notebookcheck's reviews noted that the white point is "slightly warmer than ideal values" in the 11 Pro compared to the 11. Make of it what you will. I always enjoy their reviews.

Regarding the 11:

"We also checked the colour accuracy of the display using a photo spectrometer and CalMAN software. The iPhone 11 delivers even better values than its Pro siblings with True Tone disabled. We do find the warmer look that True Tone gives the display more pleasant in daily use though."

And the 11 Pro:

"We also analysed the display using a photo spectrometer and CalMAN software, screenshots of which we have provided below. The iPhone 11 Pro, like its predecessors, cannot fully cover the DCI-P3 colour space, so we moved to the narrower sRGB colour space for further tests. Deactivating True Tone results in hardly any colour deviations from the sRGB colour space, although the white point is slightly warmer than ideal values. Activating True Tone will result in a warmer-looking image, but without any colour distortion."

The iPhone 11 doesn't feel like a toy at all. Overall when you play with both models / hold them you just feel the iPhone 11 Pro as more premium than the iPhone 11 because of the stainless steel sides and this new mat finish glass on the back.
