It looks to me that AT&T IMEI 3rd party unlocks might be coming to an end.

Ya I know what you saying, I think at the prices that they are now...for majority I would say that is the death of it. Now mainly international people will be buying, but thanks to previous popularity, I'm sure the demand won't die off anytime soon.

Looking through your posts, seems like you do some reselling your self, how's it working out for you?

No, no reselling for me.
Just unlocked a few close friends and family members iphones before.
But the price was great back then when it was around $2.
Now with these prices, forget it:D And most services now are either taking forever or end up not being successful and they fail to unlock and just refund you. Kinda waste of time to even try now.

Ya this all definitely came as a kick in the a$$ lol, did not think things would turn so quick. I remember seeing unlocks on eBay for like $0.99 at times but at that time I didn't need lol

Guess now we can talk about the "good ol days back when the unlocks were cheap" lol and this almost reminds of me the pre2010 era when unlocks didn't exist for AT&T iPhones or were $199+, I remember buying a iPhone 4 locked to AT&T cause someone had scammed me by saying it was a unlocked model, not having any clue or sim to test things at the time, I took a hit.

Lol:D
I hear you, I started unlocking all my iphones as soon as I bought them and even my family members and old spare ones I had laying around.
I rather spend the $2 than argue with a clueless AT&T rep.
But not now, I'd rather argue and waste time with AT&T than spend $100 for each phone:)

I dealt with the coming of Pwnage Tool and Boot Neuter. Those were awesome times, complete and total control of your device. No idiotic $99.99 unlocks.

I love bootneuter:D

I know there must be some hardware bug to exploit, but it is just not as before. Before the entire world wanted the iPhone, yet only 6 countries had it.

Therefore, the need to unlock was very great; not to mention back then no App Store meant only Installer could get you a nice set of apps/games.

So back then definitely, the need for such feats was needed. Now... well, only a shell of the iPhone Dev Team survives.

I got lucky and managed to get mine unlocked on 10/3 for ~$3 on ebay. gl to those that are still trying to get their phone unlocked.

Stay away from Irescueunlocks

Stay away from this seller" Irescueunlocks aka Marcus Hackney
They scammed my friend and stole $900 from them. My friend submitted 9 different imeis for their express service 1-60 min last tues for $95. He promised express service, after she made payment, ATT crashes according to him. So they will try again tomorrow. He told her there were issues with the IMEIS that he could either refund her or try again but you have to be quick to catch the "source" She agreed to try again. Thursday came and he said that the imeis were flagged, they were ran 8 times each. And there are no refunds!! He claimed his "boss"won't allow him to refund. That they get charged alot to unlock and since they ran the numbers 8 times, they will be the ones to pay the price? But he had a solution, he would offer a partial refund of whatever he made that week. Really?! Why pay for a service, not get it and agree to get some of your money back?!? He said they only give refunds if sources refund them. If sources don't refund we can't. Saying that they lost double of what she lost because "their source" charged them double the $900 for running all those numbers. She filed a paypal claim and lost because paypal does not protect against virtual goods/intangible items. This was a hard lesson for her, but I want to spread the word for her. Be weary of this seller, he got away with $900. And now he's spreading his lies that the IMEIS she had were from stolen phones. That is total BS. I'd be happy to share those imeis with anyone and show they are not stolen. THIS SELLER IRESCUEUNLOCKS aka Marcus Hackney is the SCAMMER. BUYERS BEWARE. If anybody has fallen victim to any of these unlock sites, please inform us. We need to take these scammers down!

Hey, What do you mean with the imeis were ran 8 times each?

Hey, What do you mean with the imeis were ran 8 times each?

That's what the guy (irescueunlocks) told her that they ran them 8 times each. I don't know much about these unlocking sites and how they work. He said "Okay, so att is flagging all of your IMEIs for some reason. Ran them 8 times each. Now my boss won't allow me to see a full refund because of our policy. We get charged a lot to unlock. And since we ran your numbers 8 times. Our price to pay was ridiculous."

Sounds terrible, maybe this guy does know what hes saying or is a big scam, cant be that simple to go away with it. Talk to paypal.
So My imei were ran from global unlock, swifunlocks and cellunlocker, no one could unlock my clean imei iphone 5 in time, the las one o dont how many times they tried they had me waiting for almost 2 weeks without any success.

IMEI unlocking service down? 10/3/13

AT&T sent me a message that one of our phones has been unlocked. Waiting on the other one.

Edit: Both are unlocked now. :)

Anyone with ATT account willing to help me unlock an old Iphone 3gs I got off Ebay? Traveling this weekend and that would help alot. thanks! (would be willing to pay a small fee for your time.)

let me know if this post is inappropriate and I'll delete it.

Looking at how the Nigerians are always scamming via Craigslist, I'm not surprised irescue person pulled a fast one on the customer if he did everything in his power in the correct manner. It's unethical to not refund, if u can't deliver [Given the IMEI's are clear and not against supplier policy] buyer deserves refund.

Lots of things come into play tho I guess, honesty from both ends needs to be present, and just cause one makes all the noise and other doesn't, we cannot take one persons side over the other without actually confirming things.

As there are plenty of stories online to read about scams where people pay and then do charge backs - has happened to me on eBay- but thank fully ebay acted like insurance for me and I was saved.

Just be safe now that unlocks are very expensive, it's no longer a risk of few bucks your taking.

Sorry this happened to you. That's why for these sites and such I always pay using my Amex. If Paypal won't side with me and the seller won't give the money back then I'm going to still get it back regardless. Always use your credit card if possible.

I agree, it's too risky to buy so many unlocks without testing out the source.
Well 6 out of the 9 phones are from her att account. No way they are "stolen". The other 3 (bought through ebay) she got checked through a reputable source and they came back clean. That proves he is a scammer and a liar. Paypal won't help because its not a physical item. When the claim was going on, he closed this twitter account. Now that the case was closed in his favor, he reactivated his account. And he is back in business. Calling her the scammer, which in reality he is.

She knows that now. The sad part is that she saw somebody recommend him on this site. She found his page, found his twitter, he had good customer feedback. Shady people out there.

If it's his old phone, and has a new one on the account (for at least 14 days) they should unlock the old one. I dialed 611 from my phone and went through the menu to technical support. Not billing just technical support. Besides paying full price I told her we are on our company's discount plan and need to use the phone internationally with a local SIM. Maybe if he tells them he has a new phone on his account and would like to use his old one on overseas business trips?

Sometimes you just get a ****** rep and they won't do it. Call back until you get a helpful one.

Have you guys tried the unlock portal?

I am using a T-Mobile SIM right now in one of the phones they unlocked today.

He's filled out the online request twice. He called and spoke to a rep who "did something over the phone." I'm not sure what...but I don't know if that counts as the third try. I called tech support and spoke to a rep, then her supervisor, then her manager....they had horrible attitudes and reluctantly submitted a possible 4th request to the unlocking team, which was denied the next morning. The only thing they kept repeating was "AT&T reserves the right to decline unlocking a device and so we are declining your request. You can only request 5 unlocks..." So I'm afraid to keep requesting but whatareyagonnado.
Is it only AT&T's policy to automatically deny after a 5th request or does the phone actually permanently lock?

Not sure what the problem is there. The allowed unlock conditions are right on their website. If you meet the criteria it should be unlocked. Maybe I just got extremely lucky but the rep I spoke to was really nice, and we were on the phone a while. She even apologized about the wait time while she was typing up the 'cases'. I said no problem..just playing with the new phones we got and making sure all my settings are right. I almost always use the Apple EarPods on calls like this so I can play with the phone instead of speaker or holding it to my ear the entire time.

I also think its 5 unlocks per year. I don't think its a limit on requests.

there is a limit on the number of requests per imei but i think its the number submitted in a time period and it resets.. maybe like 5 per week or two weeks for same ime because on one of my phones after requesting and unlock 5 or six times, honestly don't remember, i did get an automatic message along the lines of that too many unlock requests have been submitted for this imei.
