Dell has been using the core i5/ i7 in their notebooks, and they do not weigh 50 tons or produce dangerous levels of heat. It has been proven by other manufactures that quad cores can exist in a mobile platform. Apple just doesn't see the need to put them in yet.
I wish they would have updated before the holidays. I dont understand why they would do it in January. Everyone is buying in December.
Especially all those lucky Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT owners!I think nVIDIA was a smart choice that appealed to a lot of people.
This after Apple just added OpenCL to there new OS for the precise purpose of utilising the GPU for general computing tasks.Apple will never completely ditch discrete graphics card. What exactly do you do on your mac that requires such graphics horsepower? Integrated may suit you anyhow.
Also, HP has implemented quad cores into a select line of their notebooks... but that's not the biggest surprise. It seems that they are shameless ripoffs of Macbook Pros... they even ripped off the pricing!!!
They ripped off:
1. keyboard
2. thinness
3. unibody

That pricing can't be right. Everyone knows that Apple products are more expensive. HP can't be selling for nearly the same price, the planet with spin off it's axis!
MacBook Pro, anyone? This is shocking news. I really didn't see this one coming at all. It's just so unpredictable and out of the blue. I really would like to check the source of this, this seems even beyond a rumor, this seems flatout made-up.
[/sarcasm]
Who to believe? A rumour site or Intel itself? Yesterday, Intel officially announced Arrandale. They said, that Arrandale will start shipping in H1, not Q1 of 2010. Therefore, it might come as late as June. This is quite unlikely, but Feb or March seem to be very nice dates.
I purchased a 15" Macbook Pro and it is being shipped to me right now. I am unsure if I should send it back or not. I'm starting to second guess my purchase with this rumor. I have heard that the GeForce 8600M GT that I currently have is just as good as the graphics card in the new macbook pros. I know nobody knows and that there will always be better things out, but can anybody take a wild guess as to what they think will be in the next 2010 update likely Jan or Feb. A lower price on SSD? Better graphics? And have we settled whether these new mobile chips are to be released Q1 or Q3? Any help would be appreciated.
So does this mean we'll see better peformance from any GPU used?
Actually is there a real world chance that NVidia will build a better than 9400M and 9600GT gpu chipsets for these new cpu's?
Apple NEEDS to replace these to be competitive in updates to both the MacBook Pro & possibly mid summer MacBook lineups for the pricing model traditionally used to be of value.

No thanks.
Look at what?
This is just a stupid marketing ppt.
German Heise magazine tested the HD 5000 series in their recent edition and the performance of those cards in DX10 is not very spectacular.
DX11 is useless gag right now, much water will flow down the Mississippi before it will become useful, especially for OSX.
I think you people need to stop crying about this.
reading some of the comments people posted shows a total lack of any kind of knowledge about computers.
These new CPU's will be great upgrade from current C2D. This new arch will allow your battery to last much longer than current and should give you better performance too. the i5 and i7 CPU's are a major move forward.
they are perfect for mobile computing due to their ability to change core speeds for when you dont need the power and you need the battery.
Now the integrated GPU might be a bit of a stinker compared to the 9400m. but at least it will use less power than the current one and lets face it.. who uses the integrated GPU for anything that requires power i only use mine when web browsing and when i game i boot up windows which uses the real GPU. Lets hope that all the power saved and space saved will allow apple to use a decent Nvidia or Ati GPU. Ati's latest GPU is an absolute cracker.
i suppose you people with the MBA will suffer since you count on the 9400m, but lets face it the MBA is pointless anyway just buy the 13 or 15" MBP.
No, I see it more as:

I agree. I think the Air is more of a novelty than anything.

When traveling, every ounce counts. If you have to be weighed down with camera gear and other such garbage, having as light as possible a notebook that still does the job is a good thing.i agree. i honestly dont see why you would ever compromise performance just for thinness and a bit of weight.
these ultraportables are crippled from the off.
get yourself down the gym and build up them pathetic little arms and buy a real notebook.![]()
