I don’t have a paid developer account. I’ve logged into the developer web site, but not paid for it. On my iPad and iPhone the option to enable iOS 16 developer beta updates showed up after upgrading to iOS 16.4. It doesn’t seem like it should be as I’ve never had a beta installed on either.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine paid for the developer account but doesn't see the option. He only sees the public beta choice. And Apple support is not helping at all. This whole thing is pretty messed up.

Apple has stated that anyone logging into the developer site with their Apple ID would also see the developer beta option in Software Update. I'm not a developer nor do I have a paid account but I did once log into the site with my Apple ID, that is the one that is my primary on my devices, and the developer beta option is there. But we were instructed to use the customer beta option to receive beta updates, or off if we do not want the beta releases.

I wanted to restart paying for it (have not in a while) and the system tells me to turn on 2FA. It is already on. Apple has been pretty much unhelpful on solving this. So yeah, I am feeling the support "luv".

The friend had logged into the Apple developer site but the option didn't show up.

Today, iOS 16.5 beta 1 was released, and suddenly the option appeared for him too. Very interesting.

Oddly it disappeared for me today.

Astronomy - Earth wallpaper is semi broken here (IP 13 Pro Max).

On the lockscreen it correctly updates day/night cycle and clouds but when you swipe up to the homescreen it jumps back to display the zoomed-in area of Earth at the time you booted the device/switched to the Astronomy wallpaper.

Had to choose a different wallpaper because this is annoying.

Obvious question but have they removed the old profile and registered the UDID on their account?

Yes. Apple is no longer using the profiles after iOS 16.4. The settings option is where you now select if you want betas or not.

Just logged into my developer account and the profile is back for 16.5.

On an iPhone without the profile, but signed into a dev account, with beta switched off there was nothing available to download but when I installed the profile (leaving betas off) 16.5 showed up for download.

On the same device with developer beta on and no profile 16.5 was available to download.

Wonder if they’re doing some sort of dual running for a bit longer?

Location based focus didn’t activate today, after updating to 16.4 yesterday. Hopefully that’s just a one-off incident instead of Apple once again breaking something that used to work just fine.

Battery has been pretty solid here. 14PM

Yes, the old profile was removed, and no, the UDID wasn't registered as that hasn't been needed anymore for years now. According to Apple, the only thing you need to do is enter the correct Apple ID which subscribed to the developer program in that specific menu. Which now does work (after a new beta was released). So things are still a bit wonky but they do work eventually.
