I thought the same, but then I thought maybe 3D Touch doesnt work well with the pencil? think about it, the pencil is pressure sensitive, so you're pushing down on the screen, can you imagine the frustration of always having 3D touch activate when all you want to do is draw a thicker line?

It doesn't have 3d touch because that is for maximizing a smaller screen size like an iphone. Why the heck would you need it on any of the iPads? “You understand that on iPad 3D touch is not necessary in most cases since you get to see the detail of something directly in most cases, right? Not like the phone where it's a lot of back and forth.”-sorinc03

The majority of employees for Apple live in the US. Not sure who else you are counting.

Agree. They should make all products available to you Americans first. Because it is an American company right? Oh, but wait. You are not the largest market and only a fraction of the employees live in the US.

MURICA!!!

Then, if I understand you and you do want to draw on the couch, check out both Procreate and ArtRage.

I actually meant to write about Procreate initially but my dyslexia kicked in and I wrote ArtRage instead. Both are terrific and in some ways ArtRAge is more "painterly" and better replicates the experience of drawing or painting on textured surfaces, but ArtRage has a higher export resolution. From their app store description:
Breakthrough resolution with up to 16K by 4K on iPad Pro, and 8K by 4K on Air 2
And the app only costs $5.99!

Thanks, i have seen some stuff now about Procreate and it looks interesting. I have seen some posts about importing an PSD file into Procreate for the iPad.. and they have to downscale a PSD to a certain size.. I hope that is not the case for the iPad Pro. I am still like 60/40 that i need an Surface Pro, simply because the full acces to Adobe / productivity workaround.

Interested to see how well this sells. Not an iPad fan myself (it doesn't fit my needs, which is fine, it's why I own a Mac) but having gone from a 13'' MacBook Pro to a much faster 15'' MBP, I wonder if some fans of the iPad Air might really like the iPad Pro?

Why so much fuss about the iPad Pro not shipping with Mac OS X? It's a touch device not a desktop device. The big question should be why are the developers not creating full fledged iOS apps that mirror their desktop versions? The market is clearly asking them to do so. The iPad Pro clearly delivers the hardware for them to do so. Developer Affinity is doing this as we speak and to my knowledge have been since 2014. But who knows....maybe other developers are working on full fledged apps and we just have not seen anything from them to ensure us of that. However, with the release of the iPad Pro, it seems that it's time for software developers like Adobe to bridge the gap. Here's a clip of the full featured version of Affinity Designer running on iPad coded and optimized for iOS that I'm sure a ton of people have seen already. It looks to be extremely fluid even on previous models of the iPad. This video was released by Affinity in 2014! I get that Affinity isn't "Pro" level or industry standard in many peoples/professionals opinion but they are a up and coming force to be reckoned with. I feel that if they nail this and are the first to publish a full featured product of this type and can maximize the iPad Pro's capabilities, they will capture some of the market and create huge interest.

Why is the entry level 32GB then jumps to 128GB? I also can't get over a "pro" device running the exact same iOS as an iPad mini

Very little about this device makes sense

Fair enough, but remember the 12'' ultra thin, ultra small MacBook runs the same OS as the 6-core, Dual GPU, Mac Pro. It makes sense because the UI is the same.

I just don't see why they felt the need to attach 'pro' to it. I love my iPad Air for watching videos, browsing the web etc. A larger screen version would be even nicer for watching things, especially if side by side mode gets more app support. And earlier today I had safari side by side with excel to transfer stuff back and forth - it was ok on the iPad Air 2, but the larger pro would be more comfortable.

I think they did so because of the power the iPad Pro has and what it's capable of processing...A MacBook Air can process some of the same things as a Macbook Pro....however, the difference in how fast or stable it's capable of processing said things is what defines the difference in the two.

I've tried to use my iPad (from a 3rd - Air 2) as a paper replacement. I take notes, I draw out problems, I sketch diagrams, I write a lot of random stuff and I'm hoping this year it's finally it. I also think the screen is going to be incredible for importing photos from my dSLR to, plus the bigger size is going to make reading tech. documentation awesome while I keep it in a stand on my desk. The dual screen at this size is something I'd pay 1k for all by itself. I feel like this should be all iPads eventually, this is an awesome first step.
Let me add photo editing and photo management to the mix. My Aperture replacement is Mylio, which syncs my photos among my iPhone, iPad Air 2 and MacBook Pro. On each device, I can choose what resolution images are stored at, e.g full size on my Mac, thumbnails on my phone, and preview size on my iPad. (Preview size is large enough for making presentations or posting online. I can also select images or groups of images for full size storage on my iPad or phone.)

What this means is that I can tag and organize images on my iPad and also edit them, and that means my image archives have never been better organized or more up to date. This works fine on the iPad Air but would be a dream on the iPad Pro.

That doesn't bother me at all. In fact it's been and felt extremely solid since launch day. Battery is still amazing.
Tap on an iPad Air 1st Gen while tapping on a 2nd Gen at the same time. Going from the iPad 4 to the Air was terrible because of this. When they fixed this in the 2nd Gen I was so happy.

This is an odd launch. Clearly this device was thrown out there in response to the Surface Pro line. It's a device that doesn't really seem planned. The Pencil looks pretty cool though, and I bet the screen is gorgeous. Maybe Apple will figure out what they are doing with this device and it'll become useful. In the mean time, I'll pass.

I hardly think this was just "thrown out there." The engineering for the display and Pencil probably started at least three years ago. The engineering had to finish up six months to a year ago so they could get tooling up and running so that they would have product ready for this week's launch. That means that this was conceived of even earlier than that, probably when Steve was still alive.

Personally I am thrilled by this release. I've been waiting for this iPad for years.

How so? The Pencil, A9X, and rumored 4GB of RAM seem geared toward pros. Microsoft seems to have done a good job modifying Office to take advantage of those features.
Pro apps are certainly lacking, which is my major issue with this new product - at that price, a laptop that runs OSX apps makes more sense.

Might have missed this but I didn't see what time...

-when Apple says order online 11/11 does that mean 12:01 am PST? And what is the delivery date?

-as for the stores, might they open at normal hours? Will the stores have the needed accessories too?

Can't see getting this without the pencil.

Count me as one of the ones who will be purchasing day 1. The plan is for this to replace my MacBook Air (Already sold it on ebay so I hope this works out lol)

From what I have seen so far it can do all I personally need it to do, and the Pencil is a major draw for me. Of course, if it doesn't work out I will return it and go back to laptop land. No real loss either way.

I'm with you! Dumping my ancient MBP and don't want to carry around 4 devices everywhere ( including Awatch). I just need this to do reasonable email ( attaché and save files). I hope they put in a decent file management system soon!

anyone seen times yet anywhere for ordering from Apple, midnight pre-order or regular business hours on Wednesday ?
