we all roasted the 11 pro cam setup. We got used to it and it’s so much larger now. The same will happen if this is true, as awful as it looks now

While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not expected to launch for 10 more months, there are already plenty of rumors about the devices.

An imaginative iPhone 17 Pro concept based on rumors

Below, we recap key changes rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro models so far:

  • Aluminum frame: iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to have an aluminum frame, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models have a titanium frame, and the iPhone X through iPhone 14 Pro have a stainless steel frame. The back of the devices will supposedly have a new "part-aluminum, part-glass" design.
  • Rectangular camera bump: On a related note, the devices are expected to have a "larger rectangular camera bump" made of aluminum.
  • A19 Pro chip: iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to use Apple's next-generation A19 Pro chip, which will reportedly be manufactured with TSMC's newer third-generation 3nm process. Like usual, expect modest year-over-year performance gains and power efficiency improvements compared to the current iPhones.
  • Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip: At least one iPhone 17 model is rumored to get a Wi-Fi 7 chip designed by Apple rather than Broadcom.
  • 24-megapixel front camera: All four iPhone 17 models are said to feature an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera, whereas all iPhone 16 models are equipped with a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.
  • 48-megapixel rear Telephoto camera: An upgraded 48-megapixel Telephoto camera is rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro models, up from the 12-megapixel Telephoto camera on iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • 12GB of RAM: An increased 12GB of RAM was initially rumored exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but later the iPhone 17 Pro as well. This upgrade should help to improve the performance of Apple Intelligence and multitasking. All four iPhone 16 models have 8GB of RAM.
  • A smaller Dynamic Island for iPhone 17 Pro Max: A change rumored exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a "much narrowed Dynamic Island," as a result of Apple adopting a "metalens" for the Face ID system.

Rectangular camera bump.. don't care if it looks like the Samsung's camera bump but on horizontal , just DO IT APPLE.

Apple has lost any real innovation for the most popular devices now (IPad, IPhone and Mac) and even in terms of raw specs they have been massively beaten on things like camera quality, SoC power etc.

All the innovation that apple still had went towards a product that most people don’t want/need and is a massive flop (you know which one) At this point they are more like a software company (IOS/Macos/Icloud etc) than a hardware company. I think Steve Jobs would have mixed feelings, the earnings are good but the innovation and apple spirit went down the drain, Im 100% that he would hate something like the Notch/Dynamic island if he was still around.

Yep my thinking too.

The 16 series was a rushed last minute adjustment in ram, I believe 8gb ram will not be enough very soon and Apple will go up to 12 or 16gb in the next models.

Given the current AI wont even be completed for another 6+ months , it made it easy to skip an upgrade as my old 12 Pro Max still works fine.
My 14 Pro’s battery health is at 87% so by the time the 17 Pro gets released, I’ll definitely need to upgrade.

I remember when we get new iPhone. Today we get an old iPhone and if we can pay for more features… pro, max, extra, …

With Steve Jobs you just get the new iPhone!

They'd also need to bring back Jony Ive to introduce the 17 with this aluminum frame. He's the only one to pronounce it correctly.

I was hoping for four lenses, one in each corner.

That would finally stop the wobbling.

When are we gonna get a 10x telephoto lens like Galaxy had had for ages now? Or a stylus? Or a screen that looks good outdoors? Innovation seems to have stopped at Apple awhile ago now.
What I would love them to do is what they currently do with the main camera. How at 1x the image is 48MP but 2x crops the 48MP sensor to 12MP. Once the telephoto is updated to 48MP they can crop the sensor to 12MP at 10x for 10x optical zoom quality.

Higher optical zoom and better battery life will be make or break for me personally. Everything else is almost perfect already for the average user and not worth paying top dollar for small incremental upgrades and cosmetic/material changes.

Obviously the render is complete pants… also how would the camera handle parallax or stereoscopic photos and videos if the cameras are vertical in landscape orientation.
Need at least diagonal cameras to get that.

lol.

Camera improvements on the 17 Pro Max will be huge. An upgrade to the selfie camera is very much required. With a 48MP telephoto lens, expecting it to take 10x optical zoom like quality photos.

The new design as per the rumors/concept is interesting. Wonder whether it will happen. Anyway don't dislike the design. I think it will be Titanium frame with aluminum for the camera island and glass for rest of the back of the iPhone.

Look man i know phones have kind of peaked in a way, but it’s not like there’s absolutely nothing apple could be adding right now to their phones. Reverse wireless charging? Super fast wired charging? Why even advertise a faster chip at this point when most of us just watch a little YouTube or browse reddit? “It’s got a nicer camera though!” The camera has been great for how many years already? I don’t even know if camera updates are noticeable at this point

Being older, it was truly cool stuff to live through the first iphone. And then the 2nd. And the 3rd when every update felt huge. People stood in long lines on launch day and new features were a “I NEED THAT” moment. I remember when they first added the FaceTime camera and how big of a deal that seemed. When Siri came it felt like a big step forward because previously you really couldn’t do anything like that. Even getting a flash for the camera felt neat. And over the years the camera getting so much better at some point most of us realized we didn’t even need to have a point and shoot camera anymore.

Hate to sound like a boomer here. I just miss the excitement of iphone updates and hope at some point in the next few years they make a reason to make me wanna upgrade

Well, an aluminium frame and a rectangular bump are design choices, not features per se, so we are down to six, really.

The 48MP telephoto lens would be able to mimic a 10x lens. A stylus isn’t necessary and goes against the entire original purpose of the iPhone and they’ve had 2000 nit screens for three years now which looks awesome outdoors.
This is true to an extent, but you can’t beat optical quality. Zooming into a 5x image doesn’t give you the bokeh from a real 10x zoom.

But yeah I imagine this will be the route they will take
