If I go to my local ATT Store now, I'll be number 3 in line!!! They gave a hint saying so long as I'm number 20, I should be good with what I want. Guess I'm camping out..

Stores in shopping malls?

What about stores in shopping malls? Does anyone have experience with how those will be handled? I cannot imagine a whole mall opening early, but who knows.

I am confused as to why anyone would have to have the latest iPhone, is it a fashion statement? No wonder why there are so many broke people in this country......This brings to mind a quote about broke people ...... people who buy things they don't need , with money they don't have, to impress people they don't know.

10million+ units sold at hundreds of dollars apiece within a week's period through multiple retailers. Economic hell ensues. Man named Al continues to be depressed that people are walking into the Banana Republic when there's a perfectly good Ross and TJMaxx a mile down the road.

(…somebody somewhere with more retail fashion sense inevitably scoffs at NameUndecided's mention of BR as a quality retailer, when really he couldn't just think of a better example at the given moment.)

Very lucid!

I have to say, I find it a bit pathetic that people have nothing better to do with their lives than wait overnight or in line for hours just for a phone. This isn't some miracle, it's just a phone. When the first iPhone came out, I could understand. It was an amazing new never seen before product. "we added a larger screen, a better camera" (people rush to get it line) Similar situation with the iPad.. Can't see any reasonable person waiting for a watch though.. Don't people have a social life or a job, or something to do?

I waited once for 2 hours for my MacBook Pro 4 years ago on tax free weekend. I was then told if I had purchased online, I still could have avoided sales tax. That's my regret. That was when I has 14 and only had a paper route. Now I have a real job.

Yup. Vapid materialism at its "best".

What I find even more disturbing than the iDiots standing in line, is the Apple store drones applauding.

Why are they applauding? Has somebody just discovered a cure for pancreatic cancer?

No, the are applauding the sale of a disposable electronic gadget, made by child-slaves in China.

Think different!

Lol why do some people get so upset at other people standing in line? Are you surprised or something? Let them have their fun you spoil sports! :D

I like the larger screen. When some of the rush quiet down I plan to visit Apple and check it out. I hope I don't like it ;)

That part honestly is disturbing and embarrassing. You can't really blame the employees because it's just corporate-instructed behavior. And I find it best to not consider the people [over the age of 12 or 13] who might take it in any way seriously.

I'm hoping to get the best of both worlds by showing up at my UPS a facility at for pickup at 8 AM. I'm hoping that won't be a huge line in order for me to get my phone as early as possible.

That's only going to be true if either you don't care about screen size, colour and memory size, or if they have 20 of each of the 18 possible combinations of size, colour and memory... I'm guessing he meant the former.

Spot on.

Many of these people cannot even afford to pay the $199 "down-payment" in cash and they put it on their credit card.... but the need to fit in and to impress (in their mind) their peers with the latest fashion statement from Cupertino trumps any sense of financial responsibility.

And in the end, we all pay that prize for that.

I have an LG G3, and it fits in my pockets just fine. I guess you just have tiny pockets?

Though I do think the lining up thing is kind of silly, but indicative of our societies today. People need to be lining up like that to vote or speak out against things, instead they are lining up to buy a gadget.

I live near the Apple store that sells the most iPhones in the entire US. No way am I even going near that place.

Then why are you here?

I have never understood why people have the need to be so negative to others when others do something different than they would do. I do have a job as well as three children and a wife of 17years. I am 36 years old and was recently promoted to VP of the most profitable region of a very large regional company. I wait in line every year for the new iPhone because I enjoy the entire experience from the personal anticipation to the line interaction (two months ago I hired a new sales manager because I met him while waiting in line for a 5s last year) to getting my new toy the first day it's available. I don't get defensive over this topic like I used to (but it obviously bugs me a little bit) because I am trying to simply embrace what makes me happy. Like another poster said when talking about waiting in line for concert tickets, it's just a fun experience for some people.

We all march to a different beat. Cheers to all!

What I find even more disturbing than that there are people finding disturbing because of someone cheering people for getting the gadgets they want.

Think different does not necessarily mean being close minded.

I am currently living in Tokyo. I took this last night. The line is currently much longer. (Check the maps picture I uploaded.) This is at the new store in Omotesando (Harajuku)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME6jGdK6uzI

I had a somewhat inappropriate joke about the look of the buildings but I won't go there. 2 questions. 1. Is that Apple Maps? 2. Were those images rendered with a crayon?

Just for peace of mind tell me it's not Apple Maps.;)

Apologies to all for threadjacking but those images...
