We are getting a lot of data now which takes time to put together. I've forwarded the document, which is being updated daily, to Apple's engineering team.

Issue:
Many users have found out that their iPhone 6S, 6S+ (some 6) turns off by itself, even when left unattended. It is fixed by forcing a restart of holding the home and power button for 10 seconds. Had this issue? Read below.

iOS public release users:
Please post your model, OS, and actions before the problem occurred.

iOS beta users:
Please post the same info as above, but also report it through Apple's bug report.

Sample Diagnostics:
iPhone 6S 64 GB Gold
iOS 9.01

1. Plugged iPhone 6S to USB on Windows PC
2. Changed region to US where iOS restarted itself automatically
3. I didn't see the Apple News app so I restarted manually with the power button
4. I checked a few minutes later and the home button nor power button could wake the device
5. I restarted the device holding the home and power button for 10 seconds

iPhone 6s 64gb gold
iOS 9.0.2

1. I took a photo and closed out photos and put the phone back in my pocket.
2. When I went to use it again it was dead.
3. It would not turn on, even with holding the home and power buttons.
4. I had to plug the phone into a wall charger before it came back on.
5. It had 41% battery remaining.

This issue is more common than you probably think. Nothing to worry about. These phones are basically computers now. Sometimes they just need to be restarted. We see it a couple ones a day at the location I work at.
I have to disagree. There is no reason for it to "turn off". I don't think that's what it's doing. I think what the phones are doing is seizing up and the only thing you can do is force a restart. I restart my phone at least every couple of days. I did not have this problem with my 6 Plus and I did not have this problem until after I updated to 9.0.2...but it appears that the iOS version may not have anything to do with it.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I woke up to find my 6s+ completely unresponsive. A reset turned it back on. Count me in I guess.

Same thing happened to me. Hadn't had this issue on iP6S+ 128GB Space Grey up until today (ironically, after I read the news story about it this morning). Phone was working fine this morning. Check my Fantasy Football team in the ESPN app, made a phone call to my dad, put the phone down on the table (not plugged in, just sitting there). Someone tried to call it, but the phone didn't ring. The person then called me on my home phone and mentioned they tried to call. I thought that was strange, so I picked up the phone, and it was unresponsive. Unlit screen, no button able to wake it up. Had to hold down the home and sleep buttons for 10 seconds to get it reset itself.

Currently running iOS 9.1 Beta 3. Have been running iOS 9.1 Beta since I got it on Friday last week (installed it immediately).

Also worth noting, I had an iP6+ 64GB Space Grey before last friday, and that was running iOS 9.0 Betas, and then eventually iOS 9.1 Beta 1 & 2. Never experienced this on my iP6+. Only on the iP6S+ (and only starting today). I installed the iOS 9.1 Beta 3 on Wednesday.

Count me in. Responded accordingly to the poll as well.

Yup, I am an 64GB iPhone 6S Space Grey owner. Pre-ordered on 12th Sep and received it on 25th Sep.
I experienced this same issue at first when I was playing with the Health App checking my pedometer. The TouchID sensor was a little bit jerky than usual shortly before I experience this issue. My iPhone 6S was simply not switching the screen back on no matter how I press the home button to wake the screen. Interestingly, I suspect at least the motion co-processor was at least still working as it's been logging my steps even during the time when the screen wasn't waking up.
My solution was like many others here on MR have derived, a Home button + Power button force restart will do the job. This was on iOS 9.0 vanilla, with previous data migrated from iOS 8.4 on an iPhone 4S.

Since then, I have experienced the same non-wakeup issue on my iPhone 6S once more. Same Home button + Power button restart solution does the job. Though I am slightly concerned how frequent I have had the second dose of the same issue.

Funny this came up, when I bought my iPhone last year (iPhone 6 128GB) I had the exact same thing! Luckily it only stayed at a one off occurrence but sounds very similar to what everyone is experiencing now.

I don't have a 6 or 6S yet, but I've had this problem with my iPhone 5S a few times. I think only 3 or 4, but all this year. The screen will be off and it doesn't respond to any button presses. The first time, I panicked -- I thought my phone was bricked for some reason.

I don't have a consistent method to get it to respond again. I usually press/hold the power button or do the force restart (holding down home+power). One time it didn't respond to any of those and I decided to plug it into the charger. I got it to start up after that. (could be coincidence because the battery still had over 50% charge)

My hardware/software info: iPhone 5S
iOS versions: In the past year I've been running all the versions of iOS 8 that were released (no betas), and iOS 9.0/9.0.1 the past couple weeks. I don't remember having this problem on iOS 9 yet, but I won't be surprised if I do.

I don't think I had the issue on iOS 7.

Had this issue Tuesday with 6s 64gb running 9.01
Phone was not actually off as I was able to receive call on car bluetooth, so it seems just the screen was affected.
Rebooted with home and power button and screen was restored.
Later that day my daughter had same problem on a iPhone 6, 16gb also 9.01.
Rebooted and fine since

happening to my wifes 6s plus gold 128 GB purchased from apple.com. she was also having sim card iddues, had to get a new one from verizon. i have a gold 64 6s plus and a rose gold 6s 64gb both from verizon and have no issues

Happened to my 6s space grey 64GB unlocked this morning. Updated to 9.1 Beta 3 last night. Woke up and the phone wouldn't turn on. Tried a million chargers and then did a reset. This is definitely interesting. It doesn't even respond when you plug it into iTunes.

I have had this happen to me as well twice since Friday. Both have happened while sleeping and while charging. Once forcing a restart, the battery is at 100%.

I had this problem two times and i am able to replicate it. I set the alarm with a song as sound. The song is from apple music, downloaded to the phone (offline available). The iPhone is in Airplane mode and as soon as the alarm should go off the phone dies and i have to restart it by holding the home button plus the stand by button for 10 seconds.

iPhone 6s 64gb silver
iOS 9.0.2
Unlocked from the Apple Store, using Deutsche Telekom

I didn't have this problem with 9.0.1

Reactions: wakinghour
I am on 9.0.1 and none of that above was my situation. Just went to bed as normal. No alarms. Nothing outside charging.

IPhone 6+s 128gb ATT, IOS 9.1 beta 2

Set the alarm, put on charger and hit the bed, the alarm never went off as the phone shut down overnight, I had to hold the power+home buttons to do a hard restart.

I was thinking about picking up the 6S Plus but think I will hold off until they address this issue, if it's hardware related it will be that much more difficult to deal with. Sorry to hear you all have to deal with this.
