Actually when you do a product comparison between the 8 Plus and the X besides the OLED display the only feature differences seem to be camera related. Other than that the phones are nearly identical.

Color design(silver with black front is very nice I've been asking for black front with lighter color for a long time)
Screen is much much better(its the main thing honestly as its what you interact with-It matters the most)
Stainless steel band(another quality feeling upgrade)
Form factor(coming from a plus model thats been hard to handle at times over the past 3 years it is a huge feature)

Those reasons alone make it worth 100-150$ more

you underestimate the average buyer. I support about 160 ios devices in my company. No one knows what model they have. My boss still doesnt know that the SE exists. He asked me the other day if it was a 7 and I said no, its an SE. He said, so like a 7se?
These are the people that don't care if they get an 8 if they have an upgrade available

Most better be waiting for the x otherwise it means sales wise apple is in big trouble...

BUT we know people are just waiting for the x lol...I think ;)

I'm definitely waiting for the X and I hope they don't sell out within a few minutes before I can get my order placed. I'm finding it hard enough to wait these few weeks, I'm not sure I can wait until after Christmas if the rumours on supply issues is correct. First world problems, I know!

Call me crazy, but I prefer the classic iPhone 8 design. All these bezel free phones have compromises, awkward fingerprint scanner placement, hard to fit cases and screen protectors, no front facing speakers, accidental touches when holding the phone etc..

Other than the Galaxy Note which has pen support what major new feature do other phones have that iPhone 8 doesn’t? I’m talking about a significant “wow” feature (not design) that would make the 8 not ho-hum. What is it?
No idea, and I’m not looking for one. Very satisfied with my new 8. I think we’re saying the same thing in disagreeing with maflynn’s post.

I like the X design, but I'm not sure if they thought about the UI enough, nor how it functions with a case on it.

I don't think the X will have issues with accidental touches as there is a slight bezel unlike the Infinity screen on the Samsung. Also, the 'awkward fingerprint scanner placement' is a non-issue.

Ask Tim Cook.

He will get up on stage and with a straight face say he's overwhelmed by the amazing response to the new phone and could not be more delighted with how much people love them.

And he'd be right (Got my iPhone 8+ on Friday 9/22). All this is going according to the master plan until proven otherwise.

Agree!

I wanted black and gold though not the new gold. I really dislike the new gold shade. I got a S3 gold watch delivered on Friday but am returning and have ordered the stainless steel which having now tried in store feels much nicer quality. I think the stainless steel will also be lovely on the phone as worth on the watch the difference in price against the aluminium Watch.

Interested though that little comment on the slower adoption of iOS 11. Not surprised given that by Friday afternoon the update was still not showing on my phone and I had to update manually to be able to pair my new Watch.

Is it me, or what ... why would you shoot yourself in the foot this way ... why not just have the iPhone X this go-round ... that's all - forget the iPhone 8, etc ... and give the X the same pricing options for whichever mega pix, as given to iPhone 8 ...

There might be some surprises for apple, I see many people waiting to see how the x plays out. For the first time the consumer is offered an overpriced 8, being a 4th year design, so people are bored of it, and the unproven and very expansive x. If the X really works, it could be huge sales, if it does not, I can see many customers holding onto existing phones, at least until a viable replacement for the 6 design is out.

My preference is a 256GB SE to be honest.

The new gold is the worst color iPhone ever I have ever seen honestly.

Greed. Pure greed from Cook. He wants to set a new price point, and the 8 serves to preserve to old price point pretending it a new phone, 4 years on....

This could be a material dent in Apple's profitability if the Xs supply is as seriously constrained as thought... Even worse would be if people are simply being turned off by the price hike for an immaterial upgrade when they have 'good enough' phones and Apple simply loses sales, could the rot be beginning to set in a la iPad sales?

I am pretty darn sure everyone who wants to upgrade is waiting on the X. Once you look at the 8 and compare it with the X, the 8 doesn't look like an upgrade anymore. Even if it has all the bells and whistles, it doesn't feel like an upgrade.

I don’t want a thicker, heavier, larger phone with a notch and no home button. I’m not shocked that others do. Koolaid is a great drink.

Maybe some of us didn't need a phone to get super thin. I have never understood the obsession with thinness. Sure, I don't want a brick phone, but the X isn't "thick" at all. If anything, the phones since the 6 are a bit too thin. Hell, I can't even carry one without a case of some sort because it hurts my hands to hold the phone with the sides stabbing into my palm. With a case on, it's not bad, really. So, maybe I'll go without a case with the X for the first time since the 5s.

All these people can't be waiting on the iPhone X. I mean didn't most people complain how ugly and useless, and how late to the show it was with the technology now built in? I won't take the chance of going to the Apple Store then, I will order online. I would have loved the experience of picking up the 10 year anniversary phone in person though smh.
