Yes, i assume the iphone X pre order will be the same. YOu get pre-approved a few days before, and then the night of, open the Apple Store app at 3:01 am or whatever, and you literally just hit "confirm order." You pick the model and color and everything with your pre-approval days before. Then everything is waiting for you to go, and it literally takes 5 seconds, no joke. It's a small advantage Apple gave IUP customers, but its a bit of an advantage nonetheless.

I found this reply in one of the iPhone 8 pre order threads... Not sure if this means confirm order will magically appear when you open the app or what. Right now when I open the apple store app I see the "you're ready to pre-order on 10.27" message at top and it allows me to view pre order. Maybe that will just change to confirm order when it goes live.

I'm assuming somewhere it will confirm if you want it shipped or picked up in store? And what about the method on sending your old iPhone back. It did ask for shipping address on the pre-approval application... but did I confirm that's what I want?

I'm totally guessing but I'm assuming that the little blip at the top of the apple store app will link you to your pre-registered preorder and then you just submit/confirm. There is probably an option to edit order, it did say somewhere in the preapproval process that you could change delivery options at time of pre order.

It is pretty crazy when put in that perspective. But do remember you get twice the storage of the MBP on that iPhone, and AppleCare ;)

But for real, my iPhone is probably my most used device, even over my laptop most weeks I'll often not use my laptop over the weekend, but I'm using my phone at the same time as my laptop for calls/music.

I'm just hoping we don't have an OLEDGATE for Apple's first OLED iPhone.

I was going to say exact same thing. My iPhone is now my primary go to computer devices (also I use phone LOL) iPad is about second -- especially for ebooks and watching movies. My MacBook is third place so I keep telling myself that ;-)

****sigh**** Ill try one more time, resisting the urge to use all caps.....is anyone who did the loan preapproval process and then the midnight preorder able to describe what happened when they logged in to do the actual preorder. Did a pop up appear? Is it the EXACT same as any other preorder? Why does apple say I need to have notifications on? Is that for something?

I've found that once you complete the pre-approval, if you go back into the Apple Store App, it automatically recognizes that you are pre-approved. There is a small banner at the top of the screen in the "Discover" tab that says "You're ready to pre-order on 10.27" and gives you a link to "View preapproval". I assume that on 10.27 when you log in to pre-order, there will be a similar banner/link that takes you to the screen to complete the pre-order.

Was there an option to enroll for the program SIM free? I’m in a family plan and not the account holder and I don’t have all the info to confirm the account. iPhone 8 has the option but for those that were able to do the preapproval, was there the sim free option listed? Thanks

Maybe check with your carrier account and make sure the billing zip is matches. That was my problem as my shipping/billing addresses are different. ;)

this has been happening to me as well. I found that because I used to have a pin on my AT&T account and have since removed it that this was somehow being stored and causing errors in Apple's iOS store app. I went in to my account settings in the app, unselected "remember me" and then reopened the app. when it came to the carrier verification screen again it did not bring up any error regarding the pin that I had deleted.

"This process offers pre-approval for the credit check portion of the iPhone Upgrade Program and does not otherwise speed up pre-ordering"

Umm, doesn't completely bypassing:

  • Confirmation of you carrier and confirming you have administrative privileges (entering PIN number, last digits of social, waiting for their servers)
  • The filling out a credit approval form for new iPhone Upgrade Customers
  • Payment authentication/authorization for credit card purchases
  • etc
by definition, speed up the pre-order process? I believe those that upgraded to a iPhone 8 on the program simply clicked a confirmation or two and they were done. Literally 10-15 seconds from opening app to having an order.

Not on the Apple Upgrade Plan. AppleCare is required.

you can enroll to Apple iPhone Payments, instead of iUP.

I'd like to sign up for the iPhone upgrade program in the USA but I can't seem to figure out how to get to the preapproval page. :(

Anyone else have any luck?
I don’t think you can sign up for pre approval, you have to be currently enrolled.

I probably should have decided this earlier but I got myself pre-approved for a black 256. I am second guessing myself about having gone with silver instead now. It seems I can change my pre-approved device but it won't be until preorders open. Might not be worth it to try given the insanity that will ensue come 3:01am Friday morning.

No dice for AT&T GoPhone plans. :(

iUP doesn't support any Pre-Paid Plans. you need to have an existing account on any major carrier's post-paid plan with a credit check. You may put a pre-paid sim after the process is done but for the upgrade, you will still be required a existing post-paid account.

I have AT&T's plan w/ the iPhone 7 and for some reason, the blue "continue" button is gray, I only had options to to pick the 256gb space grey X. Maybe the server is overloaded...?

My guess is you do not have the IUP yet. I tested it out, if you are not a current IUP customer, you cannot get pre-approved. It only works if you are currently enrolled in IUP.

I see, that would be why it does not work for me because I traded in my iPhone 6 to AT&T for their 7 deal last year. Thanks.

There have been a few threads on Reddit discussing a "sim free" option at launch for the iPhone X. According to multiple users (some of whom have spoken to Apple Reps), there will be NO "sim free" version at launch. The only way to pre-order an iPhone X will be if it is tied to one of the 4 major carriers.

Here is a link to one of the threads:

I understand that Verizon phones are "unlocked", but I believe what you are talking about is an iPhone that comes with no sim card or carrier affiliation at all. Similar to past years, those will not be available at launch.

Anyone waiting on a call from Citizen's One to verify their identify? I went through the pre-approval process about an hour ago and still nothing...

It took a few hours but I got a call from Citizen One. I had placed a fraud alert on my credit file which is what prompted their need to call me.

I have not had a hard pull from iUP since first enrollment and I have 2 phones through the program ( mine and my wife's). I've combed over my credit report to ensure this is not happening. I can't speak for other people but the assertion that you automatically get a hard pull after every upgrade has been false in my case.

I’m wondering if the card you use determines a hard vs soft pull. I used Amex, and I had a soft pull for my 1st enrollment with my 8+, and was approved immediately after I completed all the necessary steps with a confirmation email. Hope this helps those who are worried about hard pulls.

Additionally, I was able to change my payment method to my checking account as soon as I created a profile with Citizens One.

Good luck everyone on your X preorders!

In case anyone else is wondering, they do a credit check using Equifax-- that's the bureau that you'll need to have an exception created in order for Citizens One to run the check

Few people have already asked but can't see an answer - anyone know if you need to do anything in the UK?
