Everyone says if the volume is so low it will be a disaster for Apple.... does anyone remember the Air Pod release? Was that not a debacle? It was done horridly. The fact it was an accessory and not a daily driver item like a phone is probably why it was "accepted" or at least tolerated. I think many on here are giving Apple too much credit based on their product roll outs that this won't be a disaster of epic proportions. I'd be very surprised if more than half of pre-order sales were fulfilled in 17. This story gives the impression 5% will get phones that pre-order as soon as they go open. Many on here are saying as long as you pre-order when they go live it will be at most a few weeks. I'm going middle of the road. 50% will get them within 4-6 weeks, the other 50% won't until the ball drops in Time Square. Time will tell, but let us not give Apple a pass as they have botched more roll outs than those in which they have succeeded in my opinion.

One issue is the demand may even get worse with this report because think of how many people who want to make money off of reselling these will really try and get one on the launch date.

Obviously this would happen regardless you might even get more people who might jump on the chance to grab an X to resell it.

It borrows the 7+ design sadly. If they could've changed the ergonomic profile and aesthetic with the 8+, it would've been better. I guess glass at the back does help because of wireless charging. If I were buying a current gen iPhone, I would buy the 8+. If I were holding onto the 7+, I would get a 4.7-5.5" OLED model, if not then the iPhone X.
It does. But I’m so surprised that people are making such a huge deal out of it. It’s literally looks. The beef is inside the phone and it’s an extremely powerful device. Only thing last gen about it is the screen. I don’t care about FACEID. And that portrait feature on the front cam isn’t going to look that great until it gets dual cameras. The phone still supports HDR. Portrait modes. Wireless charging. Fast charging. And both cameras are just about the same aside from the aperture. Also there’s a beautiful app called “Portrait”, that will make selfies look incredible if done right. It’s very reminsecent if not better than the depth effect on the back cam that you can adjust the blur and depth of it. It looks REALLY good.

And dual cameras will be on the front next year, watch :)

Getting an 8+ on IUP with one eye to getting the next generation X which will hopefully not have the issues & limitations of the X.

Yes and I’m sure Apple has learnt from the Jetblack, 6S Plus Rose Gold and especially the AirPods. They are not stupid, they know this is their flagship product, they know they cannot risk the backlash as it will seriously hurt them.

This is the problem, these problems haven't impacted Apple too greatly, despite a vocal minority, people waited patiently to buy these products in huge numbers and Apple goes on to sell record amounts.

Apple has massive brand power and loyalty and they've been getting away with miss-steps other companies wouldn't. They know it and now they're just plain outright abusing it. So I don't doubt for a second we'll shortages and significant delays.

The same will probably happen with Home Pod and also the iMac Pro and god knows when we'll actually see the Mac Pro.

Until the brand loyalty fades and people stop blindly buying - Apple will not change.

It probably will. But won’t be this hard to get I’m sure. Plus there will be displays and such made for the next phone. There’s always some sort of shortage every year.

I just don’t want to deal with that mess this year. I had a horrid time finding the 7+ last year. There’s a reason Apple didn’t talk about the 8 Plus much, and not sure why they didn’t. It’s a stellar phone minus the new screen. I see people degrading the new phone over the looks basically and the lack of redesign.. I get it. I don’t think they quite understand it’s the same exact internals minus face ID and a slight revamp to the aperture and OIS on the back lens. Only difference to me that I care about that I can wait for. Seen the front portrait feature and it doesn’t look very good at all, it’s very blurry and warped around the edges. I’m fine with waiting for the 11.

In reality it’s not THAT important if you don’t want to deal with the mess. The month wait to even pre-order it, then get a big chance of not even getting one for months. I’m good with the 8 plus!

Wow such a serious crowd about a 1st world problem. You have a 6s-7 series, not bad phones, got a 8 or 8+ coming nice phones. But if you cannot get a X (and I also want one) it is the end of the world? Get a life folks and just enjoy some fresh air and your current nice iPhones that work.

you could be under rubble in Mexico, or without anything in the Caribbean after Irma or Marie destroyed all you owned. And you worry about a damn phone? We are a spoiled lot folks ;-)

Silly comment. It doesn't work that way. You can't just move all production over to the X like a snap of your finger. Apple simply can't even get enough OLED screens to fill out the demand for the X

Listen the iPhone 8 was released to actually help with the iPhone X's supply issues.

What demand? Without starting preorders early enough, the true demand cannot be seen unless we view the reduced sells of the iPhone 8. Apple would do themselves justice by starting iPhone X preorders now. Wouldnt that give them a headstart on knowing how many need to be produced?

They should do what Microsoft did with the upcoming Scorpio Xbox. Do preorders in waves and produce based on that.....

But it's Apple, they deserve some criticism because they get a free pass from many consumers. If Samsung used the same design for 4 straight generations, they would get a ton of flack. Same with Google. The A11 processor is next gen type of stuff, but I do not feel like Apple does enough to harness that power in terms of productivity. FaceID is too clunky. Portrait lighting and portrait mode doesn't mean much to me. Wireless charging is something iPhone lacked for years, so good to see Apple jump on board with a Qi standard. Fast charging requires $75 out of pocket to maximize at the very least. Is the product a decent offering? Yes. Is the price tag good at $699, no way.

i highly doubt OLED displays are causing a hold up..
Apple ordered 70,000,000 of them in March to which Samsung decided to go ahead and get the tooling/resources ready to make more than ordered amount.

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...lion-oled-iphone-panels-from-samsung.2040058/
"Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations,"
the displays have been in production for over 6 months.. there's no way the displays are part of OP's "Final production on the iPhone X has yet to start".. no way.

Yeah Samsung is very fast with manufacturing and has the most efficient means of doing so. I'm thinking another hardware issue is causing the delay. Maybe they are tinkering with the Face ID hardware after it's epic keynote failure since not one consumer device has been produced yet.

What's a $200-$300 price difference anyway when you're financing the phone over 24/30 months?...

Any Apple "fan" willing to switch to Android is either bluffing or just grasping at straws to try something different.
its 2 or hundred dollars. Thats how people get into financial trouble. Nothing wrong with the 8

I do heavily agree with ya on that. They could’ve easily updated the screens and revamped the design on the 8s too but they didn’t. They deserve criticism on that, hardcore. Regardless, I’ll still will go with it this year and upgrade to the 11 next year. That way I can upgrade when it’s time in late September or October and still have a really badass phone (for the most part).

I do agree, the phones we have now are great phones still with the latest OS update which is still lightening fast. It's just the joy of getting a new phone and screen that excites people

yes I agree on that. I love the camera tech in the X so I am going to try (since I am on apple upgrade program) to get one with 256 to play with. Totally understand that-- get excited but why the drama LOL. -- yeah I will be disappointed if the X is hard to get but life goes on...

The X is a piece of crap

Why? If a person has AppleCare+, they can just swap it out for another one long before you buy one in mid-2018.

My local Apple Store ain't having that unless it's a definitive hardware issue, or a software problem that a total content erase won't solve. I know it's believed in these forums that if you have AppleCare that they will automatically replace your phone for any reason but that's simply not the case in MOST Apple stores.

It's not just looks. The X gives us screen real estate larger than the 8+ in a form factor similar to the 8. For me that is HUGE. I don't want to pack around a massive + series form factor, but I want a large screen. The rest is icing.

Yes and no. Its a narrower display than the Plus. Also the notch practically eliminates the vertical portion of the screen as its only really useful for the time/signal. My hope is that we will see a Plus size version of the iPhone X at around 6.2 or 6.3".

The really nice thing about the iPhone X is you're getting a larger display than the 4.7" iPhone but with a much smaller foot print than the iPhone 7/8 Plus

Apple is going to get hammered by orders for the X and there will be a lot of people waiting for months for the new X to arrive, if I had to bet money on it right now. My guess is we'll only start to see availability open up mid to late February or maybe even March 2018, if they get better yields on the constrained components.

Interesting so Pre Order October pay US$1000 Perhaps receive your iPhone X 2mths later if lucky.
Hmmm so Apple is once again on a win win situation they gather $$$ $$$ in Interst from Fanfaithful
