... :) :) :)

Mine as well, just had a dance around in my flat in celebration.

Does this mean they've got a thousand units in and mine is the tenth?

My 1GB Shuffles shipped today too!!! So excited. It's TNT Nederland (or the Netherlands) who is shipping, as usual. They calculate 3-4 days. I also reckon Tuesday. :D I live in Sweden btw and, as posted before, ordered about thirty minutes after the keynote. Original date calculated was on or before the 25th. This is GREAT!! :)

My iPod Shuffle also has an item number of 000010 so I guess it's not the tenth, would be cool though :)

No Shuffle!

Got up this morning just to get in line at the Kansas City Apple Store and find out after 30 minutes in 15 degree weather that they didn't receive any iPod shuffles! :( Well my name is on a list that they will prob. never call or call me a month after I get one somewhere else!

...Can anyone got a track search via tnt uk or .nl yet? No joy yet for me.

Didn't think I would've got the tenth iPod shuffle to come into the uk, lost in the excitement.

Cheers

I think this will explain that the sandisk is a far better deal
Will assume the price comparison is accurate, in that the Sandisk 1GB is $133 vice the iPod Shuffle 1G is $149. So we are talking about a $16 difference.

What does that get you?

Let's see...

- A device that is much smaller

1.1 Cubic Inch (3.3 x 0.98 x 0.33)

Vice

3.1 Cubic Inch (2.96 x 1.28 x .82)

- A device that is considerably lighter:

.78 oz vice 1.4 oz

- A device that works with iTunes.

- A device that has clean lines and looks great.

- A device that is easy to use.

Hmmm... IMHO, it looks like the $16 would be well spent on the iPod Shuffle vice the Sandisk MP3 player.

Umm I think you lost it

Does the Shuffle have an FM Player? Voice Recorder? Visual Screen? Playlists? Equalizer? Armband Standard? Oh yeah what happens when your battery dies on the Shuffle?

Don't need an FM player.

Don't need a voice recorder.

Don't need a screen.

Don't need an equalizer.

Don't need an armband (have the lanyard).

So far nothing is missing that _I_ need.

Playlists. Hmmm... Would it be nice to have multiple playlists? Sure. Is it a necessity? Not really. But would be a nice feature to have.

When the battery dies, I recharge it. Simple. According to some reviews that I have seen, they have gotten upwards of 17 hours. So I figure if I recharge it at night, that should do me fine. Plus I can swap my songs at the same time that the iPod Shuffle is recharging.

Naw, for me, I will take the smaller form size (65% smaller), lighter weight (44% lighter) and integration with iTunes over features that I personally do not need.

IMHO the Sandisk MP3 player is okay. However, I would much rather have the iAudio U2 or G3. Either of these two provide a wonderful alternative to the iPod Shuffle. In fact, at least here in Japan, we can get the 2GB version of each one. Granted they are not cheap, but they do provide a great option to the iPod Shuffle.

I still cant see how the Shuffle is smaller? But anyway everyone has their own opinions. I just thought with all the people here upset about not getting a shuffle that the sandisk was a great value for the money.

Ipod shuffle. No wireless. Less capacity than a Rio. Lame.
Which flash based Rio has wireless? And more capacity? There's only one Rio with 512MB and thats $20 more. Looking again at the Rio site none of them have wireless so what's your point? Yes they have a screen but they're fugly :)

Go ahead and buy the blummin' Sandisk and good for you, if you want a fm radio and want to record stuff then it is great for you.
I bought a Shuffle because i want to listen to music while doing sports and on the go. It does exactly that and is a nice design, works seamlessly with my itunes (lots of itms songs) and at £69 it is great value.
Also i can't even find a uk price for the Sandisk player anywhere...

Wow, sounds cool, Dicklacara! Just a few questions:

1) Which model did you order? (by the sounds of it, I am guessing 1gb, but am I wrong)

2) It appears that you have some Canadian tunes on your shuffle. Did you order from Canada (if so, how long did it take, etc.)? Or are you just an American with Canadian tune taste? :D

1 Gig, from Apple US ordered the 11th recd 21st free shipping option

American with eclectic taste -- Canadian Brass stuff was purchased from ITMS USA -- They make some fantastic renditions of songs that you'd never expect a brass band to pllay!

Don't forget the free songs you get with the shuffle ($15) on the 1 Gig.

Ipod Shuffle

I'm sorry but the Ipod Shuffle is just not up to standard! I mean I love Apple and the Ipod, but........what was STEVE JOBS thinking? There have been many other mp3 players that are much greater than this one...The ipod shuffle is lacking a screen, and I hate the usb attatchment(which only lets you charge by your computer, doesn't work with firewire(400mb a sec, while usb is only about 12mb a sec,and you have to pay $30 more just for a regular charger) I see what Apple is trying to accomplish by not creating "another one of those flash players" But they should at least put some decent features on it so you can see what song you are listening to and not have to charge it just by a computer! I mean there are many other mp3 players that have no screen,(like ones made 10 years ago). There are some good features like cost, battery, shuffle, and easy buttons, but overall I was not impressed with the ipod shuffle and will be waiting to see what else Apple has in store in the flash market in the future. Maybe an Ipod Shuffle 2 with a screen, a cable that you link to it for firewire or usb and that can be used with a charger! Wow, that would be a good product for Apple!

Forgot to add this use/advantage of the iPod shuttle: I call it "Whistle While You work".

I do web/desktop application development:

Mainly, I use CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language).

I can easily get everything I need on half of a 1 Gig shuffle:

- Java J2ee Sevlet container
- Web Server
- Database Server
- CFML Application Server
- Eclipse Integrated Development Environment
- My applications and demo databases

I call this CFEE!

On the other half of the iPod Shuffle I have room for about 132 songs or about 10 hours of listening.

So, I can take my CFEE/music to any place that has a OS X, Win or 'Nix OS with Java (all my customers have these).

I just plug it in, fire up iTunes, launch CFEE.

Develop code, do a preso, run a web site-- while the band plays on...

i put together a small slide show to illustrate this:

Apologies in advance-- I am the world's worst photographer.

Please take a look at the dimensions.

The iPod dimensions are 3.3in x 0.98in x 0.33in.

The Sandisk dimensions are 2.96in x 1.28in x .82in.

The iPod is a little longer. The Sandisk is little wider. The big difference is the thickness. The Sandisk is 2.5 times as thick.

Multiplying the three dimensions gives you the volume. This is where you can really see the difference where the iPod is 1.1 cubic inches and the Sandisk is 3.1 cubic inches or 2.8 times as big volume wise.

For those of us who have to carry the device in a pocket, or on a lanyard, this makes a big difference. Especially when you add that the weight of the Sandisk is almost twice as much as the iPod Shuffle.

davesipaq said:

True. But the dimensions and weight are facts based on the specs for each device. So I was merely restating the data in comparing the two devices.

Guess I must have missed something in the thread. I haven't seen any negative comments from someone who already has an iPod Shuffle.

Personally, I am looking forward when my 1GB version gets here.

Yep I got confirmation that my 1GB Shuffle has shipped today as well, quoting 2-3 days shipping, which I assume is business days so should be in my hands Tues/Wens.

That there are many folks who would like to listen to music in a random fashion provided by a small and lightweight device with minimal easy to use controls...

macman99 said:

For some of us, this is fine. Even on my regular iPods, I usually just select a playlist and then let the iPod determine a shuffle/random play order for me. The iPod Shuffle is a subset of the regular iPods in that it can only handle one playlist.

Uh, the iPod Shuffle can connect with USB 1.1 or 2.0. USB 2.0 can communicate at up to 480Mbps. This is plenty fast for 512MB or 1GB of storage.

FW is not needed in this case.

Also, by having the integrated USB connector, the iPod Shuffle can be used as a Thumb Drive with a PC or Mac which is great for those of us who work and live in a dual platform situation.

macman99 said:

You can get a short USB extension cable. Apple provides an optional charger (which does not require a cable by the way.).

Currently there is no USB to FW adapter, but for 512MB and 1GB, USB 2.0 is fast enough for most folks.

I guess you could say that the iPod Shuffle is a bad product for Apple. After all, stores and mail order outlets are sold out. The two models are backordered. Yes, these are signs that the iPod Shuffle is not selling well.

Hint. Just because the iPod Shuffle does not fit your particular lifestyle desires does not mean that others feel the same. Apple made the iPod Shuffle for those who were looking for a simple to use flash based player, that was small, lightweight, integrates with iTunes, works with the PC or Mac, and is easy to use. Looks to me like they have accomplished this and a whole lot more.

You can order the buggers, but mine hasn't shipped as yet, and its shipping status has changed to order received... I'll be pissed if it doesn't ship tommorrow!

Cause i live in malaysia and i my dad is going down for the weekend so i was wondering if its out in stores yet. Or Australia as my uncle is there and he's coming back.

Sort of awkward to turn on/off

Any else notice that it can be sort of hard to slide the on/off switch and hit the select the shuffle/play-in-order function where you want it? Feel like I might squeeze it too hard to get the proper grip.
Otherwise --it's cool. I showed it to my wife, hung it around her neck and let her listen -- she asked where the music was coming from! So she' getting one, too...
