No one is arguing about the existence of memory options, although 512 sounds crazy TO ME, but fine offer it. But the jump from 64 to 256 is clearly money driven only and a little silly. Just start at 128 and charge $50 more.
That means my wife would have to pay $50 for something that she has absolutely no use for.

This seems hard to say before Apple has a chance to explain why, doesn't it? They're not "awful" just because they're different and new.
Say you're a regular person who hasn't kept up with all the announcements, and you walk into a store to buy an iPhone. You'll have to ask for help and listen for 30 minutes just to know what the names mean.

That and it looks crappy. People are going to be drawn more to someone selling just 1 or 2 models, branding them as the phones for everyone, which is what Apple's strategy always was. I get that they need more models now to deal with selling to the whole world, but they could mitigate how bad it looks.

Oh, I'm buying...the current iPhone X. Price should drop, right? Even if a little, to clear out the stock?
It will disappear from the stores immediately. In about three months time, it will appear on the "refurbished" section. That's how Apple has handled this before.

Reminds me of a topic about naming children In a similar fashion.

Hi guys my name is KVIII.

I’m not a fan of the naming because it can really be confusing to the consumers who are not informed enough. For example I have relatives that didn’t even know there were 2 versions of iPhones last year when they upgraded. They simply referred to their devices as the new iPhones. When I asked them which one they upgraded to, majority of the answers I got initially were along the lines of “the new big one!” Some were sad or upset about not knowing about the x. It was pretty funny.

If you ever needed further confirmation that the multimillionaire middle-aged white men running Apple have completely lost the plot, here it is.

What the shame the competition is still so utterly pitiful. Apple has a clear run to gouge the punter whilst the fat execs gorge themselves into a Ballmer like sweat and orgy of opulence.

A sad day for Apple that not even the stockholders on MR will be able cover up. Lap up your stock whilst it lasts, thisnis screaming Nokia circa 2005.
...you’re upset over the *naming convention* if phones as a sign of doom for the company?

Some of you people need to get offline now and again.

Who needs more than 64GB in 2018 where the Cloud has unlimited storage and we almost have 5G?
What unlimited storage? Free tier iCloud has like nothing, not that it matters cause cell plans also don't have enough monthly data usage to support more. That and I'm sending this message with 1 bar of 4G despite being in the middle of the Silicon Valley.

Come on. leak the prices.

I am a little surprised the XS starts at 64GB; however, I bet the price jump to 256GB is the same amount as the XR's price jump to 128GB. Got to keep the ASP up somehow.

+1
I’m skipping because I just can’t stand these loaded, arrogant fatsoe’s any longer

But lol! I was the guy who would be scolding you if you called it the EXCESS MAX. I'd be saying no no no, it is the TENNIS MAX!!!!

Is this "leak" just a ploy to drop the stock price right now? Cuz I am buying call options :) Damn the torpedoes - even if the stupid naming conventions are true - none of it matters - after 2 weeks everyone will be realizing they are selling many many new iPhones and although there is "no super cycle" - this is gonna be a legendary couple quarters coming up for sales of iPhones and Watches etc.

Awful naming conventions.

Abhorrent. Why not iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Plus, and iPhone Xc. What the **** is the R for? Why go with Max? Max sounds like some trash android phone circa 2010. I dont even like the X nomenclature as is. There is no facial indication that the X is supposed to be a ‘Ten.’

Surprised 64 GB isnt enough storage for some of you, with the cloud my 64gb iphone X is almost always half free in terms of storage. Do a lot of you not use cloud storage?
I can fully understand that it is not enough for some; everyone uses the phone in their own way.
They way some people here are reacting to the existence of a 64 GB model however, is quite awful, but unfortunately not surprising.

Brilliant move by Apple to "leak" this. Look at all the hype and free publicity it caused. They very much knew what they were doing.

I hate spoilers, but this one didn't bother me, but MacRumors should have take a little more care to not spoil the entire keynote today. The story should have been spoilered completely.
Well, the name of the website gives it away, doesn't it? It's called "MacRumors" after all, so expect rumours.

Anyone would like to join me in eulogy for the iPhone SE, which might be killed off today? :(

I'm just glad they're offering a 125GB model. That's the sweet spot for what I use in storage. Hopefully the rest of the stats will be good, too.

Like the courage of killing the AirPort’s last port
(rendering the product useless to abandon it altogether...)

I love how every Apple related site has adopted to Apple's PR speech without questioning it. The "low-cost" was the "normal" price for the latest-and-greatest iPhone, until they decided to introduce the newest tech only in the 6 Plus (with a price hike). Then they raised the prices for the 6s Plus, 7 Plus and 8 Plus a bit, and priced the X over the most expensive 8 Plus. I think this is one of Apple's PR most amazing achievements, that everyone writes "low-cost phone" where parts have to be older or less advanced "to keep costs down" when - a few years ago - they showed that they could put the latest stuff in their flagship model for the same price which is now considered "low-cost".

I know and understand that Apple's main goal today is to raise their iPhone ASP and to generate more "Services" revenue, which is why I have given up to see more than 5GB of free iCloud storage, or more than 64GB for the entry level iPhone or more than 128GB in an entry level MacBook, but the XR is anything but low-cost.

Do you already know the prices?

Regular people don't care what the names mean though. I worked at Apple retail for a few years, and I can tell you that nobody bought a phone based on the Plus, SE, C, S, etc model number. The hardcore enough already knew what they wanted, and most others chose 90% based on screen size once the 6 launched. I don't suspect most "regular" consumers are going to give the names more than a 10 second consideration, merely to know what to tell their friends that they bought.

Perhaps don’t @ me if you are going to miss the point completely.

Were there any links for Mac's found? Nobody gives two cents about new phones, new Mac's are all that matters.

iPhone XS Max is one of the dumbest names I've heard for multiple reasons:
  • XS is short for Extra Small in the US
  • Max is something you would see on products back in the 90s, or on menstrual pads today.
  • XS sounds like "Excess"
  • 10s sounds like "Tennis"
  • If they want it to sound like 10s, then it's going to be difficult to get people to do that if it has "Max" after it, which makes a hard X sound.
  • Max sounds like Macs
