I quite like the way yours looks, there was another I seen in this thread of a blue case from one of the other generations, i saved the pic and I’m sorry i forgot who posted the pic, but it too was showing some of the same wear patterns,

I just went back thru to look for the original poster of the blue case,

Got my black today along with the Belkin 3 x Magsafe charger, within a few minutes was leaving a ring on the back, also makes the phone very hot, not really a fan at $220AUD here. Rang to return both and they let me keep the case for free.
Will stick to my Samsung charger, was going to go Brodit/Clicon magsafe in car but they reckon they are having trouble on our roads here so just got their wired charger/holder.

V the Nomad rugged its not black lol but looks stealth with the black 12, bit smaller/lighter, buttons better, better on the pinky and softer to hold. I got a good one with no defects.
Feels a bit sticky not sure if that goes away? Can't complain got it for nicks.

About the feel, my blue one too had a odd feel to it but i was just noticing that mine feels quite nice now after about a months use, it has a nice softness to it and even though the colouring of the last gen saddle brown looks better, the new blue has a better “real leather” feel...

I was thinking I don't see any success with the patina process on mine until I got my brand new wallet. Few pics of saddle brown case for my 12 Pro Max, with wallet for comparison:

So well, yeah, it's definitely getting darker with time (it's been around 3 months), but it's just not aging in an even way. In real life it looks a bit better than on pics, the biggest problem I have is the sides, where it just looks dirty.

I ordered some saddle soap and leather conditioner, so I am planning to just use the soap on the whole case, and then apply conditioner only on the edges. It should sort of protect the edges from getting even darker and then hopefully the rest darkens naturally to match it better. I will inform about progress in couple of weeks.


In general it's not that bad, I think however that combination of different shape and different leather then in older cases makes this one a bit more demanding if you want to have nice patina on it. I would most likely go with different brand if I knew it before I purchased this one.

Another thing is that I wonder how the wallet use will impact the patina process. We'll find out with time :)

That black Nomad looks slick! I have mine on the way along with an Apple saddle brown and a Caudabe magenta Sheath. More than likely, I’ll be sticking with the black Nomad as my daily case and keeping the rest in the occasional rotation.

This aqua blue bull strap case looks decent, do the side buttons click as nicely as apple leather cases buttons? is it as slim as apple leather cases?

How's the patina coming along?

Is the camera protected? Doesn't look like the case is raised around the camera.

What's the color called?

Already got a baltic blue leather case, deep navy silicone case, for my 12 pro max, looks like this bull strap case might be joining them. 🤦‍♂️😂

This is how my baltic blue looks like since November. Honestly, I am really sad of how it aged. I mostly work from home so I didn’t have it in my jeans so often. Any suggestions on how to make it look better?

I have the Black sheath too, so think i am done now.

The color is Ocean. I haven't been using it because a.) the raised lip around the screen was uneven and it bothered me and b.) the Mini has been demoted and I'm now using a Pro with a black Apple leather case with a rustic brown Nomad.... on the way? So I can't answer the question about patina. I would assume the camera is protected but I'd have to check to be sure.

Not sure if the Baltic blue was made like the saddle brown or not. But on my saddle brown I rubbed the coating off the back with a damp magic eraser and then let it dry and applied a leather balm and it looks a lot better. You could try the same process. No guarantees it works on the blue but it might.

For a first leather case what would you recommend?

I'm after reasonable drop protection, a case that wraps the entire phone (no exposed sides), that feels great and that ages well - no way I'm going to chance forcing a patina as much I love this thread!

My options are Nomad (in the UK they're £10 cheaper than an Apple case), Apple or the even cheaper route of a Bellroy as I like their colours but I've no idea how they hold up over many months.

The Nomad looks great but I prefer the look of the Apple saddle brown. The Apple saddle brown doesn't have the drop protection of the Nomad. Does anyone who have both have a firm recommendation either way? And as an outside shot, would anyone have a long-term review of a Bellroy?

The unevenness is a worry, looks like their quality control isn’t up to scratch, might save myself the headaches and not purchase it.

Did yours also started to get black on the sides? After you used the magic eraser, dis you get a more brown look to the sides or those remain black?
