It was obviously a joke.

And separate. Just as separate as the iMac is from the MBP. Different machines.

Separate. Just as separate as the iMac is from the MBP. Different machines.

iMac is a desktop machine, MBP is a laptop. They have nothing in common, where as the MB and MBP do, since they are both portables.

I agree separate forums, but when you click "Notebooks" you should be able to view both forums at once. That way everyone is happy.

Really, is it that hard a thing to do?

Separate. It takes too long to sift through all the MB posts to find people making comments on the MBP.

it seems like everyone already posts in the MB pro forum anyway w/ general questions that apply to both products so why not combine?

I'm thinking one. "Pro type people" are not going to get bogged down in the items about the MB, and MB-owners would likely happily ignore items about the 9600GT, ExpressCard and Firewire (ok, maybe that last one's a sore spot, but still ...)

Apart from all the foolish reasoning, they should be separated because they are separate products intended for different users. who cares what you use your notebook for ( rich vs smart, designer vs hacker(not cracker)). They should be apart, simple.

They definitely should be apart, just as the Mac Pro and iMac forums are apart. Questions for the MacBook are going to be very different over time, maybe not initially, from questions about the MacBook Pro.

I have both MB and MBP. But i am sure MBP forum alone is more than I can handle now. I can always navigate to MB if I want to. So I vote for separate...

Well... hmm. Following recent events, they are virtually the same machine. Though, while Apple continue to sell the old models I guess it still makes sense to keep them separate.

And the decision is.............?????????????????????????????????

Yeh.. it's me.. remember me? ...last posted in January of last year?

Joined last December 'cuz I was all excited about receiving a well-used, hand-me-down CLAMSHELL from my son's girlfriend? :D :D :D

And had never used a mac before? But son had a MBP, and turned me on to macs?

Yep.. I'm back. The one who likes using smilies in her posts. bwaaahahaha !

Thought you were rid of me, did you? NOT.

I'm back and full of myself. Just bought myself a brand spankin' new 15" MBP last week. :apple: Wooooooooooooooooooooot !!!

And yes, my son is jealous... 'cuz his is four years old now, and mine is NEW. :D Love it ! His got plenty of use during his 4 year stint in the Navy, and still runnung great, so he can't whine.

So yeh... had to sell my vintage BMW motorcycle I've had for nearly 40 years to get this, but hey.. at my age, I'll be able to get a whole lot more use out of this MBP.... rain, sleet, snow, or shine ! ;)

So I did it. Never thought I'd sell that baby, it's an antique like me. We had put many a mile on it together and had some absolutely unforgettable times. But methinks those days are now but a fond memory, and a new day of mac-ness hath arrived!

So welcome me back.. heartily.. 'cuz I'm here to stay. Expect lots of questions, but as a former forums moderator myself, I know how it is to get the same question over and over... and over... when it's already been addressed.

I will do my best to search the site for my answers first, but bear with me, I'm still a newbie with macs... and very excited to learn all I can!

So which will it be? A separate forum for MPB or not? oops.. I just answered my own question.. I see there's a "notebooks" section divided into separate models.. cool.

yes

I think they would be better together, many people need advice or opinions when deciding between the two, myself included. At the same time, that would become a massive forum page...

Make a whole new section just for deciding which one to buy.
I mean is it really that hard, the MBP is better but one costs $700 more, and if you can't afford it buy the macbook. There done:)

I think the problem with the new unibody notebooks is it makes the difference between the two alot less. I miss laughing at macbook users and their plastic case. However macbooks and macbook pros still need to be seperate like the rich from the poor.
