I must have missed the CDMA antenna in the announcement.![]()
Or they want as many people on the new capped plans before they know what's happening![]()
Apple can announce to never release iPhone on Verizon network and some of you will still believe it to be some sort of "code" that Verizon will get it soon.
Personally, I think today was a good day for Verizon Wireless customers.
Thoughts?
i think AT&T's motivation is to keep people happy and have them stick on their network, also keep apple happy
What is their big motivation to keep the customers happy? Why go to such extremes?
They have a contract w/ Apple, why do they have to go out of their way to keep them happy?
Sorry, but these generic explanations just don't ring true to me. They don't seem typical of a revenue driven business with little competition. Unless they really see Android as a threat...and I just don't think thats it either.
I know that it wasn't announced today, but should I still hold out? I'm on Verizon now and on a month to month postpaid account because my contract is up. Should I stay with Verizon or jump ship to AT&T?
this is definitely a ploy to lock people in early to additional years, regardless of what other carriers are getting the phone in hte future the day is coming soon, so by moving up the upgrade date, they can lock in people to additional years before any news gets out and they potentially lose customers, good business move, cost them nothing to do it and they get another year of guaranteed revenue
where are all The Verizon "fanboys"? I'm pretty sure they're all in the closet crying about now....
The fact that there are fanboys at all for cell phone providers, bet it Verizon, AT&T, Cricket, will never cease to amaze me.![]()
Seems to me like its the case. Why should AT&T otherwise care whether people are eligible for an upgrade... they have to be able to make back their subsidy on these things.
I came from verizon to att for the 3GS. I was thinking about using another family members' upgrade to get an iPhone 4. Seeing as how my 3GS will do multitasking, and how the iPhone 4 doesn't have HSPA+ and doesn't increase storage, I don't know if its worth extending my lock-in with AT&T.
You guys are a little bit ... nutsTheres nothing wrong with having more carrier options available to us customers. If you are happy with AT&T, thats great for you, but dont be a dips*** fanboy and recognize that AT&T isn't great for everyone and what people are asking for is more of an option while staying with Apple instead of going with Android or BB.
The vast majority of the world uses the same standards (GSM) as does AT&T and Tmobile in the US.
Verizon and Sprint uses CDMA for their 3G which only works on their networks, so the phones are hardware locked to their respective networks.
Sprint has chosen a proprietary standard for 4G (which is based on wimax). Verizon has chosen LTE for their 3G, but it's not backwards compatible with their 3G network. AT&T and Tmobile can expand their 4G network with 4G hardware and it's backwards compatible. Verizon, until they expand their 4G network nationwide will either have a 4G only phone (which won't work on their 3G network) or a dual chip phone.
Remember also, it's not just for iPhone users. All users who have upgrade eligibility will be allowed to upgrade.
Don't expect an iPhone with Verizon this year. If it was going to happen, it would have been announced today.
I dont think most have any problems with V getting the iPhone; its mostly their whining and saying how bad AT&T is day after day after day that gets irritating.
Agreed...despite whatever the reasoning behind it, AT&T is trying to lock more users down for the next 2 years.
Yeah, whoever made the comment that this cost AT&T nothing is an idiot. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the economics on this one. All these early upgrades is costing AT&T quite a bit. Although it's true that the ARPU for iPhone customers is higher, so it's more affordable that early upgrading non-iPhone customers.
It isn't backward compatible on AT&T either. An LTE iPhone for AT&T would have to be a chip that supports their previous GSM standards as well.
it were a fall release as has been speculated (and I'm not saying it will be) it wouldn't be announced today.
