[Merged] Waiting to get white iPhone 4 vs. black iPhone now

How long will you wait for the white iPhone 4?

Is it worth it to try and pre-order at my local Best Buy tomorrow? They claim to be getting white ones on launch day and say that if all those are ordered, I will be getting one from the next shipment.

Sounds like the employees are just uninformed, but do you think it would be better to just pre-order it, or wait until I could get it from Apple.com?

Bottom line. Everything any on-the-floor salesperson says will be a crock of **** until something official comes down from Apple on why they didn't have the White phone available, and when it will become available.

Until then, don't believe anything anyone at the store tells you.

Ever since the keynote all I wanted was the white option for the iPhone4...I have the white 3gs and I want to upgrade while continuing the white theme. I will not purchase a black one and I will wait as long as it takes but hopefully they will be in stores at launch so I will make it an all nighter and sit there in hopes of getting a white iPhone 4.... Apple, you are killing me once again...:confused:
 
So here's my plan. I wanted white from the beginning. Just because they're not taking preorders for it doesn't mean it won't be available on the 24th. I have some connections at a local AT&T store. The night before launch, I'm going to go in an ask if they have white in stock. I don't imagine any AT&T would really shy away from saying if they do or not. If they have white stock, none of it will be preordered. I'll wait in line ( I wanted to avoid that this time) and get my white 4 on the 24. Think this will work or am I just an incurable optimist?

Probably optimistic. But I'll be doing the same, at an Apple store though. I have time, I don't have to be to work until 10 am, even then I can afford an hour or two.

I just hope if they do have the White ones, they don't give them to the people who preordered black who want to switch. I purposefully didn't preorder because I knew I didn't want black. I just hope they don't screw over the people who were holding out for white.

Apple has addressed it. They said it will not be available for pre-order or in store pick up. Pretty clear to me. Once Apple knows when they can start shipping, it will show up on the website. Don't expect Apple to make predictions on things they don't know.

I'm sure Best Buy will not have White iPhones before anyone else. They'll have to wait for Apple to ship them just like everyone.

Totally agree. If you preordered a black model, you should have to buy a black model. Otherwise send them to the back of the line of "walk-ins".
 
I'm holding out hope that they will release the White iPhone 4 along with the Black one on the 24th. I just really hope that I will be able to pre-order. It really doesn't make any sense as to why Apple hasn't publicly addressed this issue.
 
Who's waiting for the White release?

My wife wants the white iphone so i'm stuck waiting it out. I cant get my new phone until she can so we have to wait it out. :mad:

Just wondering who out there is going to wait for the white colored Iphone?
 
I really wanted the white, but I could not wait until the phone comes out because there is no specific date. It might be different if we were told something about it. However, late summer can be the end of September since that is technically when summer ends. Upgrading then can mess me up for the future iPhones! :)
 
I will wait for the White as long as it takes. I will pay full price for it and sell my Black iPhone on eBay. IMO it will be pretty much an even trade.

Exactly what I was thinking. If someone comes in who pre-ordered a black iPhone, and wants to trade it for a white iPhone.....BACK OF THE LINE!
 
This is so unlike Apple to leave their fans high and dry. If they're smart, they will make some sort of announcement in the next couple days as to when they are expecting the white iPhone to be available. Let's hope that happens, because I won't wait 'till August for a white iPhone.
 
im really happy that the white wasn't available for preorder
I'm mad they havent given us a date yet but my plan before was to just preorder the white and hope that I like it as much as I do in pictures

now that i have decided to wait, I decided it really made no difference getting the phone on launch day anymore and now i plan to wait until july, walk in, check out a white and black model at my at&t store, check out all the bumpers and other cases that have come out, and leave knowing ive purchased the best possible option for myself

i was bittersweet about apple not allowing white preorders, but now im glad they are making me wait

Sell black now and white later

I preordered the black on my line. And I decided that I really like the white better. So I am going to sell my preorder on eBay. My wife and I added my mother-in-law to our plan a few years back. Her line is elgible for an upgrade but she could care less about upgrading her phone. I can use my 3GS for now and then upgrade using her line when the white one comes out.
 
I had no problems getting my pre-order in. I however, changed my mind on the color and canceled my order. I don't know if I am set on a white, but this way I can check them out first hand in store before deciding. I'd rather have something sooner rather than later, but hey, that's life. So, 80% set on white. =)
 
I just ordered the black one instead of keeping white. It's the reverse of what happened to me with the 3G. I wanted black, but all that was left in the 16GB was white so I went with it. Now that I want white all they have is black. Dang it apple quit teasing me. :p I guess I'll just have to buy a really thin white case.

Is this documented anywhere? I realize that the website notes that iPhone white is unavailable for pre-order, but do we really know that they'll be available at launch on a first come-first served basis?
