Some of your reasonings are just...dumb. I mean, I understand where you're coming from, but it's just a color. Wait a few weeks, and just get black if white still isn't available. Some of you are saying you'll switch to Sprint, stay with Verizon, etc...you do realize that the color of the phone does not affect the functionality, right? Not purchasing the iPhone all together just because you can't get white seems like flawed logic.

Is this documented anywhere?
No one knows anything. But it's not impossible that will happen. As long as they also put them up for sale online at the same time. I'm not willing or able to wait in line at the Apple store, especially if it's not confirmed.

The 3GS will still rock with iOS 4 installed, so I can wait. Plus I don't think the iPhone 4 will fit into my Proclip mount, so the more time they have to get a new one out the better. ;)

I'm waiting, at least until the crazyness of the launch dies down. Hopefully by then the white is ready to go.

i agree that from a customer service standpoint it's really inexcusable to not explain what is going on.

Apple should be forthcoming and let everyone know what's going on. Limited supply...manufacturing delays....whatever... Make something up. Even if they don't want to explain for image issues what is really going on they should say something.

For a company who usually has excellent customer service it is very uncharacteristic and raises doubts/questions.

Why in the hell are they obligated to explain anything? They're a company. You aren't forced to buy their products. They don't have to explain $h!t.

Because most companies know that negative word of mouth from 1 person carries to at least 4 others (on average, this was in the early 00's, who knows now with MySpace, Facebook, etc).

Word of mouth can make or break movies, mobile phones, computers (Vista, anyone?), ANYTHING.

Most companies want knowledge of disappointments and other shortcomings to be out there for all to see before it stirs into a crazy mixture of rumors and lies (as it has now with the white iPhone).

So no, they aren't FORCED to give an explanation for anything...but if I held stock in the company and I were a shareholder...damn right I'd think they were "obligated" to explain to the consumers. And fast.

I am hoping soon it will look something like this:

I'm waiting for now, but I won't wait longer than July. I've been able to get every single iPhone on launch day because I got the previous model on launch day. If this messes up my getting iPhone 5 on launch day, I will be twice as mad as I am today.

With that said, they better give us some info soon. We do deserve to know what the deal is. They said white & black - available June 24th - not black available June 24th and white whenever we get to it. They have white in ads and all over the site. They are parading it around and dangling it in front of our drooling faces. We deserve a status update at the very least.

I don't think it'll be that be that much longer. Why would they even put it on the iPhone preorder page at all if it was gonna be delayed more than a couple of weeks?

I wouldn't be surprised to see it available for preorder before June 24 or shortly thereafter, but that's just a hunch and I could be completely wrong.

My wife wants the white iphone so i'm stuck waiting it out. I cant get my new phone until she can so we have to wait it out.

Just wondering who out there is going to wait for the white colored Iphone?

Same boat. I won't be allowed in the house with my black unless there's her white in the other hand!

But I'm surprised that there have been no leaked stories about what's happening. Not even a rumour? After 3 days you would expect someone to have found out something? Or maybe there are mre important things going on in the world...
TT

Seriously NOTHING leaked or announced on the highly advertised great White iPhone? With the iPhone preorders pushing availability into mid-July... at least give us a release date for the white iPhone. I am actually shocked all the blogs that cover Apple products aren't talking about this issue. DAMN YOU :apple: :)

This is what's weirdest to me. I mean, Apple never says anything about anything really, but to not have all the tech/Apple type blogs harping on the issue, or at least trying to get a comment from Apple, is kind of strange.

I just called my local AT&T to ask about porting my number from VZW. I also asked if they will be having iPhone 4 on launch day (yes) and if there will be any white ones (no). I was told they will not have the white one "for awhile". :(

I might call back a couple of days before just to make sure.

I almost caved and got black, but as it's now too late (July 14th ship date, no thanks) I will wait until the end of July before caving for a black one (unless there is a looming date for white, like August 15th or something). I have a feeling it'll be mid July.

It doesnt matter. A lot of people do buy Apple products for the aesthetics. That does happen to be one of Apple's major selling points. Most of us dont want to buy a black one and just settle. We will always feel like we dont have what we really want. It doesnt really make sense to switch to another carrier just because of this but if like myself you are on Verizon now, then why wouldnt I just sit where Im at until its available or if there is no word and its a month or longer just get another phone on the same carrier?

At first I decided the white iPhone would be a nice change. The one thing holding me back though is worry about it reflecting a ton of light on bright days, almost blindingly so. And a black border around the screen does allow for a perceived higher contrast. Regardless I love the look... reminds me of the fad of colored fridges about 5 years ago with floating glass tops.

As to the holdback on launch, my take is Apple gauged demand to be higher than anticipated and keeping to one color allows them to crank out initial production faster due to a simplified supply chain, distribution schedule, etc.

See this is where Im also stuck. I am planning on doing an all nighter at the Apple store but then I really really dont want to unless its confirmed they will have some in stock. I would hate that I wasted a day of vacation, sleep, time and end up with no iPhone 4, even if I do have one reserved right now.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Apple was just pushing the release of the white model back more and more now because of the demand for black, and the only reason the demand for black is increasing is because of the people who are giving up waiting for white?

I'm not so sure about all the speculation about demand. Apple released both black and white 3G/3GS phones at launch. If it is demand, then Apple is rushing out the black iPhone's just to get something on the market? Why couldn't they manufacture a large quantity of both colors and release them at the same time, even if it were later than June 24?

That argument still doesn't make sense to me. I understand that the aesthetics of the product are important, but the color does not influence the overall experience really, when you think about it. I wouldn't buy an iPhone just because it's white and prettier than the previous generation. You buy an iPhone for the capability, top-notch hardware (regardless of color), and technology. Waiting it out is a valid option, but getting another phone just because white isn't available? That's ludicrous.

Your comment wasn't in regards to my post, but here's an analogy...

If I had hypothetically narrowed down my choice of cars to an Audi A4 and a BMW 3-series:

Audi A4 is my first choice but dealer only has black (no way - too hard to keep clean) and has no idea when they'll get a silver one in (my first & only color choice).

BMW dealer has several silver ones on the lot today.

How long would I be willing to wait around for Audi when they can't give me an ETA before I just head over to BMW?

I see your point, but I could see someone switching phones over something like color if their other choice was a close second to begin with. Just a thought.
