I would be pissed if they change it to December because Apple says November. It seems that Apple is following the MS trend nowadays when it comes to delays. It's not as bad as MS, but I'm sure that this is the price of growing. Apple has so much products now than ever before. With Steve's group which he personally managed himself the workload for them has been doubled. I guess Apple sometime in the future their customer service will not be as good today, if the new products will keep on adding every year. I do want to see new products but I prefer to have a stable one and much better customer support. We all forgot that we're paying more for the product not because of the product itself, but also for the extended support we're supposed to be getting. Apple forgot about this thing they already abandoned the original iPhone and the 3G next on the line, which is still a capable device.

Installed 4.2 GM2. working just fine ;)

Yup - the 8C134b release appears to have resolved the wi-fi issues I'd been experiencing with the GM. I've not had any loss of connectivity since installing this release last night - even after changing back to a DHCP-assigned IP :)

Wi-fi has been flaky with all 4.2 beta builds so it's good to see that this appears to have been sorted.

RTP.

Not to sound rude, THIS PROBLEM HAS NOTHING NOT WITH THE WIFI SIGNAL. STUTTER ONLY HAPPENS ONCE THE MOVIE IS FULLY CACHED ONTO THE APPLE TV. WHILE THE MOVIE IS BUFFERING IT DOES NOT STUTTER.

Inside voice please. (Plenty of civilized options to stress your point like bold and ital. You don't need to resort to a graph full of all caps.)

Installed the GM yesterday afternoon and found that I don't experience any problems with the WiFi. However I'm glad somebody caught that because had the GM been the final release we would've had a bunch of people whining and complaining about how Apple is slacking and blah blah. Good job developers!
FWIW, I think the public release will happen next week sometime. There no point in waiting til thanksgiving when stores will be closed and people who might have issues with the upgrade would have nowhere to go.
I have to say tho, multitasking makes the iPad a BEAST! I love it so much more now ;)

I don't think Apple will release iOS 4.2 on November 24, 2010.

The reason is simple: they don't want to deal with any serious compatibility issues over the Thanksgiving Day (US) holiday period. It's more likely they'll release it on the 17 or 18 November 2010 so Apple can check for problems "out in the wild" and apply fixes before Thanksgiving Day.

I agree with you. They'll either release it next week or wait until the 30th. It's a Tuesday (a known day for releases) and it's still in November as originally promised. (Not that that matters much.)

How long are iPad backups taking for you guys? Mine takes between 15 and 20 minutes which I think is too long, especially when in-between themi tend to only browse the web and a few apps.

Oh great googily moogily, I thought I wad the only one who had that going on! Why does it take hours?!

I don't know why. I have the 32 GB half full and last night it took 4 hours to backup. I couldn't use my beloved iPad for 4 hours and I was getting frenetic!

Of course, I'll be away for Thanksgiving with just my iPad (not flying with both my iPad and MacBook Pro!) and won't be able to update until that Sunday.

Bummer! But I'll live.

Unless my flight crashes. :(

I hope that your flight doesn't crash!

Christ I'm lucky then.

Yeah, no kidding!

I purposely don't backup often though just for that reason and maybe that's why it takes so long but I'm afraid to because I don't want to be out of commision for that long so it's a never ending cycle!

As a software engineer, reading all this whining here really makes me glad I don't have to read actual customer "feedback".

Those guys are fixing a problem and making sure it goes through the proper testing before release. All that so you don't have to complain about them bricking your device on release day.

I wonder how many people Apple has to employ that do nothing but filter and pamper whining customers.

iPod touch wifi issues?

Does anyone happen to know if this fixes the iPod touch wifi issues, where the battery is being drained like mad even while idle? About 1500 people have posted on the Apple support forums about this. It was introduced in 4.0 :(

Apple has really gone downhill a bit when it comes to quality control, I've experienced way too many major software/firmware problems in the past that take them months to fix.

Thanks. Is there a significant risk installing gm2? Anyone else who's not a developer done it?

I just installed iOS 4.2 (8C134b) on my iPad and it works great. No WiFi issues at all. I get a full 3 bar signal most of the time now as I move to different rooms in my house.

One problem it fixed was when after turning the iPad off and then powering it back on, the WiFi would not reconnect and I would have to go in to Settings and re-select it manually.

I am very happy with my iPad now. :)

I see the gm2 is available on 'certain' sites now. Is this worth getting or Is it best to wait for the public release? Is it easy to update from gm2 to public release, I'm just a little concerned it may mess up my iPad.

I installed gm2 on my iPad last night and am pleased with it so far.
When the final release comes out you can upgrade to it with no issues.

I'm amused at the outrage.

If they would have released the GM and people reported Wifi issues, the media would have taken off with it and we would have had another huge bad news session for Apple... during the holidays no less.

I'd rather them delay it to fix a bug they didn't see in initial testing, rather than push it out ignoring the bug.

Good on Apple. :)

This is why I hook it up to do the backup right before I go to sleep. :D

You need a printer.

Well duh. I'm not completely incompetent. It said to remove and add back any printers you want to use with AirPrint, so I deleted and added back my HP printer which is connected to the same wireless network as my iPad, then I went to try and print something as a test and it said "no printers found" I don't know what other steps there are to make this hack work...

Fingers crossed they have got it sorted this time. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this.
Hopefully this will result in Apple using the term GM properly and not calling it the GM until its released.
