This is silly. Although, if they are seducing enough I shall sell my brand new Sony to the highest bidder and get myself back to the fruitland.

That said, I think they'll be around same spec but for 700 euros more. Core i5, Radeon 5650, 4Gb, 500Gb. Might be hard to justify the upgrade. Excellent screen, battery life and a great slim body will help, winkwink to Apple.

ohhh i really do hope it's coming out soon. the latest around mid-june? i want to get one before i leave on vacation.....

Hi,

I wonder when the Pro's will have cellular connectivity like the upcoming iPad's do?

s.

I predict it is going to be released on one of the following days:

13 April, 20 April, 27 April, 4 May, 11 May, 18 May, 25 May, 1 June, 8 June, 15 June, 22 June and 29 June.

You forgot to end the line with a ", and so on..."

BTW, the last date should be preceded with an OR instead of and AND... There seems to be no grammatical accord between the "one of the following" and "and".

I would not expect USB3.0, Bluray or Firewire 400.

My guess is IPS displays, slightly higher resolutions, i5-i7 and the classic memory, HD and graphical update.

A MacBook Air mini (300 to 600 g or so) is much needed. For full blown Keynote and PowerPoint presentations. Because the MacBook Air is too heavy and large and the iPad does not deliver.

MacBook Air too heavy and large? That's crazy talk.

That would be all I'd need, but that's not exactly "next level" stuff.

WOLF! WOOOOLF! Hey everyone, a WOLF!

Hmmm... Perhaps it would save MacRumors some time if they just copy/pasted one of the previous threads' comments here and save us all the trouble of typing the same things we've been typing every week for the last many weeks. :p

I agree. I don't understand why this always has to be such a big secret. If PC's had a decent alternative, I would have already bought one of those. They don't so I'll just continue waiting.

Actually, I've been somewhat seriously looking into this and even started a thread over at the ArsTechnica MCO asking for advice. Most of the suggestions haven't really fit what I want, but there was one.

The Dell Studio XPS 16 seems like it might be a reasonable competitor, and apparently has one of the best laptop screens on the market right now (at least with the widest color gamut, which is kind of important to me and the main reason I didn't just cave and buy a MacBook). However, two difficulties (for me): 1.) It doesn't appear to be Hackintoshable (yet) so you'd be stuck with Windows 7. 2.) This is specific to me, but they aren't available in Thailand, and so I'd have to go down to Malaysia to even just check one out.

But, I'd really prefer to stick with Mac, since I am most comfortable and efficient with my workflow in OS X.

Anyway, right now, all I really really want is a confirmed date and specs, so I can make a decision, because I NEED a new computer pretty much now, and the only one that comes close to what I want specs-wise is the 15"MBP with discrete graphics. However, that's more than I'd like to spend at the moment, and I'd be really pissed to buy one and then have a 13"MBP with discrete graphics come out the next day for just about half the price.

(I'd like to get the smaller machine for better portability)

i don't, i cant even. I've been waiting for quite a while now to the point that i am considering getting a notebook and with the remaining funds i have, buy an ipad. I will say one thing i am not waiting until June.

LOL@dell laptops, they stink dude, period, they are trash, my friend was playing on his, he plays WoW and counterstrike 1.6, and he was running at like 90 degrees Celsius skipping mad frames, if your trying to compete you go all out, not on dell, so far dell has been the worst computer company i've ever encountered, having a dell xps tower, only since they bought alienware have i even recognized them as a company, even then alienware is super overpriced. Don't waste your money, trust your instinct and stick with the mac

are we seriously to believe that "australian macworld" know's more than THE still waiting for arrandale thread :D:eek:

also next week is NAB. Does anyone know if apple is attending?

Speaking of NAB Due you think Apple will really WOW us with FCS 4 AND Macbook Pro's? I would go TOTALLY BONKERS!
Imagine i7 620 2.66 Ghz
8 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz
Ati 5830 1GB
500 @ 7200 RPM HD
17 Inch 1920x1200

So what, you're going to wait until May only to realise that one month later there will be a new MBP? :)

I hope the new 13" model comes with an antiglare screen option but I doubt it so people will have to buy the more expensive 15" model.

I'm hopeful for this month.

I expect a bump in the specs, nothing radical, save for maybe the new Intel processors. I hope they don't delete FW. If they do delete FW, I suspect it will be because they include USB 3.0 which I don't think they will do this round.

Thanks to all who post their musings. You keep me going!

Firewire isnt going anywhere. USB 3.0 will not be in the new macs. Theres an article on cnet.com about compatibility issues with usb 3.0 and arrandale processors

Releasing new MBP's won't take away the iPad's thunder! I don't understand these kinds of arguments. The mainstream media will stay focused on the iPad. When was the last time an MBP update got coverage on a news channel?

This isn't an attack on you, I just don't understand this way of thinking...

Definitely not offended, but let me offer a better articulation of my reasoning. You're absolutely correct, MBP updates have never really met with the fanfare of gadgets like the iPhone or iPad. However, transitioning from the C2D chip to the iX chip was going to require some fairly substantial hardware revisions. Unlike going from one generation of C2D to the next, we're going to see a lot of changes inside the case this time. With that in mind, the possibility exists for Apple to get people (not current users) excited about a laptop by offering something unique. I don't think we're talking 3D or anything crazy like that, but I do think we should expect to see something newsworthy about this next generation. It won't have the gadget appeal of an iPhone or iPad, it isn't meant to, but if they can deliver a product that will generate a discussion about Laptops it keeps them relevant in the news even as other products come to market. Sacrificing the month of May with so many competitive products looming doesn't seem quite as appealing as releasing something to continue the discussion of how Apple is pushing the envelope with its products from now straight through June.

For what it is worth I do not believe the MBP and iPad are competing products for Apple and the concern is very likely not an erosion of sales for either by having both released. They each serve a purpose, and actually have the potential to work really well as complimentary devices, but people who want an MBP likely have specific needs the iPad will not address, and the people who want an iPad don't necessarily need the capabilities of the MBP.

People, think about a couple things rationally:

1) they won't release them until 99% of the bugs are out, or else engadget will have a news story about how "the new MBPs suck" because 100 people out of 300,000 had subpar wifi out-of-the-box like the ipad did.

2) they JUST released the ipad, which will get them tons of extra in-store traffic. Perfect time to unload the last of the MBPs from this generation... get the most return on investment before releasing the new ones. Why would they release a new MPB immediately, and miss out on that?
