Next iPhone: A4 Processor, 256MB RAM, N90 PRO2, Translated Impressions

Umm so I guess a lot of people on here can't read. . .

It's a PROTOTYPE! Completely not finished. It's an unconfirmed model. . . and you people are losing your minds. Just wait a few more weeks for WWDC.

With that said,

Maybe it's the Verizon CDMA version. . .;)

Speaking of reading...I guess you missed the SIM card slot, eh?

You are hilarious. I think the Evo is a piece of junk personally.
Enjoy your Evo on SPRINT though!

fanboy, have you ever used the Evo? No? That's what I thought. Neuter have I. You can't call it junk unless you have used it. Te next iPhone could very well be junk too. Both the front and ack made of glass that is purposly raised? It could be trash on the 1st drop. But have I used one? No. So I cannot assume the next iPhone or HTC evo is junk, and neither can you.

So the new iPhone has the same specs as an iPad. Everyone complained about the iPad but now many people have changed their minds, myself included. The iPad is zippy with the current specs, and many third party browsers enable better web browsing experiences.

Here's what I'm thinking: If the new iPhone has the same specs, but doesn't need to run as high resolution or memory needing apps, it should definitely be fast enough and zippy enough for you all. The iPad is fast as can be.

Nice try there buddy. The PS3 has a total of 512mb of ram available. Get your facts straight.

No, it has 256mb of system RAM and 256mb of GPU RAM. They're distinct.

Just because my PC has 6GB of RAM and 1792MB of VRAM doesn't mean I can say that my computer has 7792MB of RAM.

I am disappointed with only 256MB. It might be enough to get by, but RAM has the biggest effect on user experience. Its more important than CPU speed. The more the merrier.

I had thought that Apple would pull out all the stops with an awesome update to counter the rising Android tide. The HTC Incredible and HTC EVO are amazingly powerful machines. They are no longer far behind Apple, they've caught up and passed in several ways. The Incredible multi-tasks with ease. Switching between applications instantly. And its on Verizon with awesome 3G coverage everywhere.

Apple needs a kick butt update. Until the memory issue, the rumors were sounding good. I'm expecting/hoping for specs that can at least match the EVO's 720p video recording, HDMI video output, front facing camera and, yes, 512MB RAM. It won't be able to match the EVO's 4G network speeds until LTE arrives probably next year.

I'm expecting
- Front facing camera
- 720p video recording. Maybe 720p video out.
- Faster processor. I had hoped for more memory...
- Much improved battery life. This will be the clincher. The HTC Android devices have pitiful battery life. Caused by small batteries and lack of design in the OS and applications. Apple will make a BIG deal out of this.
- Combined with iPhone OS 4.0, multi-tasking
- iChat

I think it will be a very solid release. Especially if there is a version for Verizon in the fall. AT&T's lousy coverage has crippled the iPhone long enough.

And I think the new design looks awesome. Hopefully no sharp edges though. I am not fond of the sharp edge on my new 13" Macbook Pro.

Hmm. If it turns out to be a winner and do wha I want, great, I'll fork oun the green to buy it. If not, I'll look at sprint and the evo!! I also really like sprint service in my area. 256mb does seem very low for a new phone though, especially considering multi tasking and the new apps that will be created taking advantage of the new features and such.

As for the look of the phone, I like the look of my 3gs more, but I can't really knock it untill I see it in person. Glass back is probably one of the worst ideas Ive heard of though.

I've used an Incredible which is the same exact thing on a 3.7" screen. The Evo's experience will be nearly the same.

Sprint is charging an extra $10/mo for the EVO :(
HTC Incredible is pretty cool on Verizon :)
iPhone on Verizon in September...

Hideous is right. I sure hope that this is not the final design or Android, here I come.

If you're basing your decision on how the phone ends up looking then you are shopping around for the wrong reasons. You remind me of my girlfriend when I was shopping for a laptop. She kept on brining up the "cool" looking ones without looking at the specs.

Need less to say I will be upgrading when the new iPhone comes out. Yeah I do wish it will be coming with 512MB of ram, but with the A4 in it I'll be happy with it. I will be making a jump on storage from 16GB 3G to 32GB 4G/HD. I do hope for a 64GB model but we will see when the time comes.

The one thing I don't see being talked about is if there will be a white backed version. I guess no one knows at this point or its been masked over by the leaks???

I have posted this before, the PS3 can use System RAM and VRAM interchangeably. There is a bandwidth penalty for doing so, but it can be done.

I love how so many people are dissing a phone they haven't even seen live yet. You have no clue how it's going to run. I have a ton of stuff on my JB 3gs including winter board, tons of themes, sounds, multitasking etc etc and it does perfectly fine. I don't have an iPad so have to go with what some are saying but why do you need 5 tabs open in safari?

I love the new design and think it's a major improvement over 3g/3gs. I like the round buttons that have more function options than a rocker switch. The lines in the case are there for a reason, you will find out on 22 Jun 10.

Would I of liked more RAM, of course. Am I bummed that it didn't come with more, not at all. For all of you that want to jump ship, please do. It will open up some bandwidth for the rest of us. Have fun with your new phones, glad you'll be running off to complain on their forums. :D

Dont care what they call it

I just cant wait to upgrade from my 8GB 3g. Been a little long in the tooth for a while now. Didnt mind it until I played with a buddy's 3gs and realized that it was a LOT faster. I have played with an iPad in Bestbuy and while Im not planning on purchasing one, it is an awesome, product that I really think will be a game-changer in the whole mobile computing world. But anyway, cant wait to upgrade my wife's and my iphones to this new one. Only bummer is I think we will be on vacation out of town during wwdc. If they release it during that, I might have to just buy them in FL instead of at my local ATT store.

256 MB of RAM is pathetic. It was fine for 2009, but is it going to be deep into 2010, 2011 or 2012? I guess that plays into Apple's business model. But, man the Nexus One, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, HTC EVO 4G and even Palm Pre Plus all have 512MB of RAM. I guess we are just going to have to hear about how optimized and efficient iPhone software is for the next year.

But really, Apple should be ashamed of themselves.

If it works out like it did last year, it won't launch for 10 days after the WWDC announcement. So look for a Friday, June 18th launch. Enojoy your vacation!

256 MB of RAM is pathetic.
Is there any evidence of that aside from abject whining?

Nobody's used the thing yet to say one way or the other, but if it's responsive and functional at 256MB, then there's no issue. It's no better than pissing matches over engine horsepower, the wattage ratings of electric power tools, or CPU speed.

"More RAM is better" is a good rule of thumb, but it's just that. There's such a thing as diminishing returns, and there's not any particular evidence that current smartphone platforms are constrained by RAM on the whole. Wait until there are performance reviews to start the handwringing.
But really, Apple should be ashamed of themselves.
Yes, I'm sure the clueless Internet hordes will really inspire shame in engineers, designers, and programmers involved in making the thing.
