Really? Is that it?

Worst reason for a special event ever!
Seriously, couldn't Apple have just rolled out these updates without all of the show?

does time cook have a blackberry on his side and not an iphone?

I was thinking the same thing. lol.
I do, however, have a pet peeve... I HATE it when Apple doesn't include things into their Keynote video. For example, like this presentation, there was a Q and A session..... I want to see that. But no... its not on the Video. Anyone know where I can find that? Or anything like a summary of the things asked?
BTW: I am going to my Apple Store tomorrow to get a new MBP. I have called and they will have them in stock. I will take a ton of pics of an unboxing! CAN'T WAIT!!!
:apple:

Well, with all that aluminum casing I don't think you'll feel anything getting hot. Could it be that one of the reasons for switching to aluminum casing is to solve their heat problems

aluminum actually has very good conductance...
that's why we use it in baking...
and it's also the reason why when you take foil out of the oven it cools really quickly.
So if anything, the aluminum would actually allow you to feel the heat even more!

I completely 100% disagree with ya. (sorry. lol.) I think they did just what they needed to. Especially when its such a big update. If they were just updating a processor, or adding more memory... then yea, a small roll out would be fine, but for a massive redesign and update like this... its all out like they did.

People,

I'm new, long time mac user, but have been reading for awhile. If you really want to see your complaints go to good use, and want do see change, then go here (someone else already suggested, but nothing really was done):

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

Make an official complaint, and I can promise you that if enough of us do it, apple will listen - and HOPEFULLY change prices and problems!

Please please please do it! Complain about whatever you want - just make sure you include the crappy prices and the "NEw" EDUCATIONAL dsicount!!!

Thanks!

I just sent a response to Apple about the Firewire port. I think it would be a great idea to let Apple know how customers feel about the absence of a Firewire port on the new Macbook. If you feel likewise, consider sending a response to to Apple about it on http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

Like I've said before, Steve Jobs is losing his touch :(

He once again sounded a bit weak. Whatever he caught seems to still be kicking him. He also lacked his usual enthusiasm, and that rubbed off on the rather laconic audience.

IMO, the trackpad was the star of the event. I was wrong about it being "the brick" but I think it's more revolutionary than the manufacturing process. It's about human interface. Just as the mouse changed how people used computers, multi-touch will as well -- and it will make devices like the iPhone and Touch much more common (since users will have new expectations of how to interact with devices). After using both a Touch and an iPhone for about a year now, I'm beginning to find a mouse and keyboard a bit cumbersome.

As for the new stand-alone LED display, I can't imagine that Apple will sell very many at such a ludicrously high price (especially in this economy). You might as well spend a couple hundred more and get a whole computer with it. And I too still have to be convinced that a glossy screen is the way to go. I have difficulty with the reflections off the displays in the Apple store as it is. I don't want to re-arrange my entire room lighting to accommodate glossy screens. Maybe PowerSupport can make anti-glare films for them.

I think this event was stunningly surprising. Not because of any products that were revealed. But because Steve and co. did a Q&A session. I don't think I've ever seen them answer unscreened questions like that before, and they gave very direct answers. Such as Steve's blunt statement about Blu Ray. That probably rattled quite a few cages in Hollywood and Tokyo. Like I said, this sort of mini press conference where Steve actually explained his thinking and his decision making process to the media is unheard of. Normally Steve Jobs comes across as someone who answers to nobody, and if you don't like what he has to offer then you should pack your bags and leave.

Combined with the fact that Apple has really relaxed their pursuit of rumors and leaks, I'm wondering if this is a sign of a big shift in the way Apple handles its new products.

Please tell me what other companies sell LED backlit 24" displays for a price anywhere close to $899 US, especially ones with TFT screens.

I imagine the LED Cinema display is the beginning of a refresh of the entire line.

What do I know about materials. Thanks for correcting me. I'm a coder, don't know anything about materials.

All I have to say is ew, these are disgusting. Glass screens = glossy as hell. Black surround is ugly. Black keyboard is ugly. Those cheap keyboards suck anyway. The bezel looks huge. Glass touchpad... i'm not sure about that.

I do hope the 4 finger multi touch comes to these MBPs. I see no reason it can't.

Also, what was the point of going with hybrid video cards? I don't see where they claim any better battery life.

The normal looking macbook is the only thing remotely okay looking, but I wouldn't buy any of those systems. I'm glad I have my Feb 2006 MBP.

Everything looks good except the stripe bezel multicolor thing. The computer looks like a good one and impressive. All the new features are great. Very smart to move the CD to the right side. I'm on a MBP now and i can say that the supports on the CD being right under your right palm all the time has caused it to buckle. With the CD on the top right this won't be a problem. Again everything looks good... Except the look itself which reminds me of the old titanium powerbooks. I'd pick it to be all 1 color if I had a say. I'd get one nonetheless for the inside is more important.

Can anybody suggest a reason why the previous, white plastic model of the Macbook in the UK has gone up in price by 20 pounds? I didn't hear anything about updates to it, and rather thought they said they were lowering the price in the US.

new macbook

is it just me or do the new macbooks look like they will be able to run call of duty 4. does anyone know where we could find the amount of video ram they have.

exchange rate and superdrive

So, with the new mini displayport that apple invented, they control what you can use it for.. and now only for dvi, not a real full size displayport or hdmi adapter exists for mini displayport.. But everyone is happy anyways, right.........

slower processors make dylan very angry!!!

i would rather get a blackbook for the same price as the new low end alum. macbooks

2.4 GHz > 2.0 GHz
250 GB HD > 160 GB HD

they are pretty, but i want faster processors, not just faster graphics

:(:apple::(

Our economy is dying faster than the US.

£1 was about $2 last time they refreshed, but it's $1.75 now.

Interestingly, they seem to have absorbed the cost on the other lines pretty much, but I guess with that being the cheapest model they couldn't do so any further.

..... would be my answer if it was originally £699. But wasn't it £799 anyway, and so yes... cheaper than before?
Edit: Okay, it was £699. Original answer stands.
