- Cheaper entry price. iPhone X series might go down to
* $799 XS
* Max 899
* XR at 699,
* original iPhone X reintroduced at $599,
* original XR $499,
* iPhone 8 $399,
* iPhone 7 $299

Or, just accept there is market saturation.

XR $600
2019 X $700
2019 X Max $800

This is all way to complicated and confusing, like the pre 1998 era

Apple needs a maximum of 3 models

5.8”
6.5”
4.0”

Three sizes to fit all needs. Put the newest CPU and camera in, give them all the 128 or 256 GB storage option and call them Mini, Max and just iPhone. Period.

At least one new iPhone released in 2019 will sport a USB-C port, smaller notch, and the return of Touch ID under the display, according to Jean Baptiste Su, Vice-President and Principal Analyst at consulting firm Atherton Research.

iphone-xs-gold.jpg

Su shared his prediction in a Forbes column about Apple lowering its revenue guidance for the first quarter of its 2019 fiscal year:This is the first Apple rumor we've ever heard from Su, and the Forbes contributor network has published its fair share of questionable content about Apple in recent years, so treat this rumor with a healthy dose of skepticism. Many analysts not named Ming-Chi Kuo simply make guesses -- and not always educated ones.

Let's imagine these features prove to be true, though, and examine what that would mean for the next iPhone:USB-C: For many years, critics believed Apple would never switch to USB-C on its iOS devices, and then it did exactly that with the 2018 iPad Pro. Will the iPhone follow suit this year? Notorious supply chain publication DigiTimes seems to think so, so Su is not alone in his prediction.With many of the latest Macs equipped with USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports, which share the USB-C connector design, moving from Lightning to USB-C on the iPhone would create one primary I/O standard across not only Apple devices but hundreds of other electronics.The switch from Lightning to USB-C would almost certainly cause an uproar among at least some Apple customers, who already had to replace their docks, cables, and other accessories when Apple switched from its 30-pin dock connector to Lightning back in 2012.It's also worth considering that Apple has emphasized a wireless future, so one possibility is that the Lightning connector sticks around until there is no connector whatsoever.
Touch ID under the display: This one is hard to believe. Face ID is more secure than Touch ID and seems like Apple's authentication method of choice going forward, starting with the iPhone X and expanding to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR last year.Kuo agrees, noting that Apple doesn't plan to return to Touch ID in any capacity with its 2019 iPhone lineup back in September.
Smaller notch: This one is certainly plausible. As the iPhone design continues to evolve, Apple will surely find ways to reduce the size of the notch, even if only by a fraction of a millimeter.
It's only January, so we're still early in the rumor cycle about 2019 iPhones. Over time, we should get a clearer picture about what to expect from more reputable sources like Kuo. To date, we've heard the next versions could feature a triple-lens rear camera, Face ID improvements, slightly thinner displays, and more.

Apple can't win a war against the Asian giants based on whose phones are most feature laden and technically advanced other than in processors so should do the basics well and cut the prices. It should consider biannual launches as its processors can last 2 years. It also needs too develop its own screens as one way of reducing prices in the medium term while keeping margins up. The problem with USB C is that it will cut Apple profits and goes against their nickles and dimes philosophy of add on profits.

Please PLEASE no USB C. It’s such a bad port design, every single one fo then on my MBP has come loose over the years so the charger frequently slips out. I don’t want that same terrible lack of longevity on my iPhone.

"To date, we've heard the next versions could feature a triple-lens rear camera, Face ID improvements, slightly thinner displays, and more."

The current iPhone has the optimal camera for its size. This concludes the chapter.
I don't think you can get much more out of it.

Unfortunately DJI (instead of Apple) has now taken the next logical step: The "DJI Osmo Pocket" is a horny thing. It was immediately sold out worldwide for the Christmas business. Quite rightly so. Together with an old iPhone (e.g. SE) you have a fantastic film/photo equipment. DJI is now just as professional as Apple, it's a tragedy that Apple didn't buy this Chinese company in time when it might still have been possible.

Hopefully, Apple's mindless marketing will not be competing for more lenses, but will be guided back on track by Apple's former technology leaders. The development of meaningful things such as FaceID monitors (Mac mini) and other simple but effective technical implementations made Apple famous. Not the race to compete in display size, gimmicks, wristband color and edge roundness.

As threatening as the market saturation in the iPhone sector is, there is hope that Apple will come to its senses again and no longer let itself be distracted by marketing games or crazy 'analysts', but will again develop new hardware and intuitive software, they were the best.
what is so good about this Osmo device?

I use 1 USB-C charger for my Laptop, Switch and Phone. Never going back to packing extra chargers and wires on trips.

Apple needs to implement it as a port on everything.

That actually makes sense as long as the max isnt still $1100 which is insane for that phone, Xr is fine

Maybe it's hard to believe but I sure hope to heck that it's true. Face ID just sucks. It fails frequently requiring typing in the code often.

It increases the number of steps taken to do Apple Pay. You often in practice actually have to look at the phone, tap then look at the phone again, then double tap the side button and some times even have to repeat looking at the phone, when before it was an easy single step, with one hand, you tapped the screen with your thumb on the button and go.

The idea that Face ID is more secure than Touch ID is just pure B.S. nonsense. There is no good evidence for that being true.

Almost everyday, I find myself typing in the code rather than put up with the flakiness of Face ID.

Apple, I miss Touch ID. It doesn't even have to be under the screen, just admit that Face ID is a failure and but the Touch ID on the back of the phone like some Android phones have done.

Yeah, i deal with Face ID but after recently getting an ipad with touch ID, gotta admit the Touch ID is a bit better than face ID.

The multiple steps thing for apple pay is a pain in the ass.

I really enjoyed FaceID and then came winter. Can’t get my half covered face. Obviously

Touch ID was worse. It doesn’t work with gloves. Face ID works with a hat down to my eyes and a scarf covering up to my chin. It just needs eyes, nose and mouth. As an aside, it even works with the beard I grow in the winter. It learns. Totally seamless.

TouchID is gone and not coming back.
Doubt they do USB-C rather they’ll wait and remove the charge port all together.
Smaller notch. Yes I can see that.

I rarely have issues with FaceID. Honestly I type my passcode due to FaceID failing less frequently than I did TouchID. This holds true on my iPhone and this holds true on my iPad Pro. I don’t miss TouchID at any time other than if I am driving, and when driving I shouldn’t be messing with my phone anyway.

Unless Apple can build TouchID into the phone using the same screen that they would use without it I see absolutely no reason to incur the cost.

Not really. Never understood what is so confusing. They could make the price more clear though. My suggestion is all phones start with 128 GB. $50 more for 256 and $100 for 512. All models have the same memory options.

Price wise...

iPhone 7 $299 7+ $399

iPhone 8 $450 8+ $550

New iPhone SE completely updated $600 remember the days when people paid a premium for small devices?

iPhone XR $650

iPhone XS $750

Iphone Max $850

Doesn't matter if they don't increase profits doing this they can no longer increase their profits with pricing power. Sell as many as possible. This line up would make for very easy decisions.

FaceID works great for me with a hat and scarf and sunglasses. If people have issues with the winter gear on all they really need to do is to take a second photo with the gear. I ride my fat bike in the snow and when the temperature is around 0 Fahrenheit I have enough stuff on that Face ID can have issues, but a second photo resolved that.

Not in my experience. It is NOT totally seamless. It even often fails when I take off my glasses even though the alternative scan was without my glasses. It frequently fails when I have hat on and I have take the hat off to get it to work. It also usually fails if I haven't shaved that day or during the weekend. If it really just goes on the eyes, nose, and mouth, that would definitely be a lot less secure or unique than Touch ID finger pattern details.

Taking a glove off. Well, I don't wear gloves. There is just about zero need for gloves where I live.

Face ID frequently fails if you pick up the phone while lying down because of fluid shifts in the body.

You mean first like they were with USB-C? You know... on the Macbook?
Exactly these people don’t know what the hell they're talking about. Apple is a board member of the USB consortium. They literally helped develop USB C... and own several patents to it

Going to usb C would also require lots of people to switch their headphones again...unless they make a dongle for a dongle for a dongle

Considering there are next to no Lightning headphones (I know, tried finding options for gifts this Christmas), it’ll be either the included ‘USB-C earbuds’ or just using a different adapter, exactly as it is now.

Give me Touch ID and ability to turn off Face ID and lower the price 400 to 500 dollars and I might give up my iPhone 6s.

I have my S9 unlocked before it gets out of my pocket ;) Let's see face Id beat that

And by the time I actually look at my iPhone, it’s also unlocked. The difference in time is negligible at best in everyday use.

Both biometric scans have advantages and drawbacks. For every scenario where using a FP sensor may offer and advantage, there’s one where FaceID is the better option.

I don’t think FaceID is significantly better than TouchID in most regards, but I have come to prefer it in daily use, especially as it’s now on the iPPs. My point is it works every bit as well as TouchID for most people and Apple isn’t going to walk it back. And they’re not going to compromise interior space for a second set of biometric hardware.

When has Apple ever been about giving their customers multiple options either? ;)
