Guess this is the last update before 10.4. I didn't think there would be 9 dot releases. Did 10.2 go up to 10.2.9? I forgot.

10.2.8, the last Panther update, came out roughly 2 weeks before 10.3.0. Honestly though, I don't understand why so many folks on these boards get all hung up about release numbers. The fact that 10.3.9 is coming out has absolutely no bearing on when we will see Tiger. If Tiger doesn't get here until May or June (yes, I'm aware of the April 15th ship date rumor), there will be another 10.3 point release; so what?

As far as your first request goes...who knows outside of Apple/NDAs. I certainly don't.

A little VersionTracker Search will reveal twelve results, most of which appear to be what you are asking for.

That said, I do think this should be an OS-level thing. Then it could start to integrate and show some signs of artificial intelligence.

Imagine if it tied to iCal. Then you could set complex alarms, like: "On non-holiday weekdays, wake me up one hour before the start of my business day, which is defined as 9:00 AM or the start-time of my first event in my 'Meetings' iCal Calendar. Also check my 'Travel' iCal calendar, and if I have anything scheduled before 11:00 AM, wake me three hours before that event."

Now wouldn't that just change people's lives? No more setting the alarm; no more changing the alarm; no more forgetting to turn off the alarm on weekends; and so on...
 
What about fans?

It would be nice if Apple fixed the fan noise issue on DPG5s. Since the 10.3.8 update, my system has been noisier than it ever was before...

10.3.8 *fixed* my rev b DP G5 fan noise problem. Do you have your processor performance set to "highest" in the Energy Saver preferences?

I've read numerous posts on Apple's own support web-site where many people experience the same fan-noise problems that I have. The irony is that there was no problem with 10.3.7. In fact, I hardly ever heard the fans come on until 10.3.8. Then all kinds of fan noise became apparent and I'm not just talking a little... I'm talking full-speed LOUD noise. So much so that I have to set my system to sleep at the end of the day so that I don't come into my office in the morning with all the fans blowing full-speed. So, this isn't a problem that can be fixed through the preferences menu, it is a problem that Apple needs to address directly. Thanks for your help and concern though! I really do appreciate that very much, have a great day!

If that's all they fixed (from 10.3.8), I fear many bugs will remain forever. Please Apple, you can do better than that.
 
I want be installing 10.3.9 when it's released. My PowerBook is fine right now and I don't see anything in it to warrant the update for me.

However I recall 10.2.8 was released about a fortnight before Panther was announced (as somebody here already pointed out) and as I intend getting Tiger whether released in April or June there's no point in 10.3.9 for me either.

Right... the first few items are new in this seed of 10.3.9; the rest is new in 10.3.9, but already addressed in previous developer seeds.

I wonder if this will fix the flakiness in ARD 2.
 
i think automater will be one of the best new features and am already thinking of tasks to automate: here is one: one-click to send a text message to my cell phone...I'll call it "Pageing" when I cannot find my cell phone. 😎

Yes, you're right. I was confused because earlier reports contained fixes for the combo updater (which included all the fixes from 10.3.1 to 10.3.8).

You've got a point. Good job. From what I've heard, every new computer that was purchased 90 days before Pather came out came with a coupon for it. Coorect me If I'm wrong.

Also, I now understand everyone's point with the 10.3.10 thing.

I think we are likely to see Tiger come out in April as in introduced, but the actual shipping date can vary from two to four weeks. Especially in the new machines.

If you have to put your Energy Saver prefs to "highest," that ain't no real fix. 10.3.8 didn't have any noticeable effect on my dual 2.5's fans, but it sure messed up the fan on my X800, so I went back to 10.3.7.

That's why the following Panther can't be named 10.3.9.1 the final "1" would refer to an internal pre-release build of 10.3.9 . The next build will logically be named 10.3.10

... and so on. If rumours are true, Tiger is going to be the final version of OS X anyway. In a couple of years we might be seeing OS11.

And I hope not. OS X just sounds so freaking awesome. Its that X that does it, really. OS XI or OS 11 just sounds kinda... lame...

It's no secret that Apple considers Tiger the completed master piece they set out to create with OS X. With all the major kinks sorted out and Spotlight now implemented, the next major revision might well be a new operating system built from scratch. Therefore, it would not fit in the OS X category. OS 11 or OSxi won't have to hold that name. they could follow Microsoft and begin naming their OS's after the year it's released. (runs for cover!)

... OS 2007 ... OS 2008 (ducks!)

Then again, "OH ESS EX AY" (OS Xi) sounds kind of cool now that I think of it.
