I have a white iPhone 4 and my lady has the black one. I like the white one when naked no case looks nice and glossy and had it for 3 months now no problems like white washed images or such. I'm going for the white iPad 2

So called "men" in here needing to buy a specific colour to feel like a "man" is so sad.

Pity them, i really do.
I wonder how many of the "White is for chicks" crew have ever actually talked to a girl? (besides their mom).

I've yet to read one convincing argument, other than personal preference, for selecting black over white. Personally I'd be happier if Apple just split the difference and offered a neutral gray bezel (which would be far better that black or white for rendering more natural colors).

Choosing one color or the other based on preference is respectable. Making your choice out of fear that some one will doubt your masculinity or label you a poser begs of insecurity issues.

Up to this point I'd pretty much decided on black. After reading all of the convincing arguments against white the paler shade is sounding more and more appealing.

Grey bezel is being saved for the iPad Pro (I'm only half joking, the other half is dead serious)

Funny you should say that you sold your Kindle to read on your Blackberry, I fell in love with my Kindle because for the first time in 10 years I could read an ebook and not be on a backlit screen. I knew I was getting my iPad so I didn't think I'd even want a Kindle until I had it. Once I did I was hooked! I take it everywhere and still will. :) Can't wait to take it to the beach and be able to read in the sunlight!

I can not wait to get my iPad... I'm like a freaking little girl at Christmas. This week is moving WAY too slow! Haha
Interestingly enough the latest issue of MaximumPC pronounced the e-book reader as a dead technology given the emergence of tablets. As stoked as I am to pick up an iPad2 I doubt I'll be letting go of my Kindle anytime soon. There is still something to be said for a single purpose devices ability to deliver on its intended function. Until tablets drop a pound or so and implement screen technologies that can be read in in sunlight I don't see the Kindle headed for extinction.

MaximumPC also predicts the immanent demise of optical media. I tend to agree with this assessment but find in humorous that MaximumPC is one of the few remaining computer mags that packages a CD of freeware and demos with the news stand version of the mag.

Speaking of reading in sunlight/at the beach. No beaches anywhere near us. Plus we don't sit or stay in sunlight for any length of time. I love being outside but am out of the sun. And, especially now that I had skin biopsy this last week and waiting to hear back.

I can't wait to start reading on my Ipad 2! Love the animation on turning the page in ibooks :)

I think it's ridiculous people are saying the white color looks 'feminine' or 'girlish' or 'chickish'. That's ridiculous.

It may be ridiculous, but at the same time it's completely understandable. Is anyone seriously doubting that far more women will gravitate towards the white iPad than the black iPad? Now, does that make the white iPad "girlish" or at least more "girlish" than the black one? Only if you think in such categories, I guess...

For the record, I'm a straight guy and am a huge fan of Apple's white products.

Pragmatically, the black is probably the better decision. Better perceived contrast, etc.

There's something pleasantly clean and minimal about the white look, though. I'd probably have to see them in person to make an actual choice.

I completely agree! The white is so minimalistic & true to original Apple, in my opinion. I've had my eyes all over a white iPhone 4 since they were even mentioned. I think the next best thing would be a white iPad.

I'm still trying to decide. Who knows. I could see a white one on display on Friday & instantly hate it. It all depends.

I need to see both in person before deciding. There is a company that will be selling a real wood smart cover that would look better with the black/aluminum combo. (I like my electronics to have a throwback 1970's stereo look to them)

But there's something clean and fresh about a white iPad2 with a lime green smart cover.... reminiscent of my OLPC XO.

People who write that the white iPad is for women really annoy me. Chill out, its a freaking color.

Buy what you want. I'm assuming the white iPad will be like the first gen Nano ... where it won't change colors.

I always thought white electronics, especially from Apple, had a cool Kubrik-esque "2001" vibe to them. Like something you would see floating around in a space station.

I'm a nerd.

I think the black bezel would be better for watching movies and videos. I would find the white to be distracting.

I'd like to point out to people who say the white iPad would distract the eye when wathcing films, that the white iPad would only do this in darker rooms, in lighter rooms the black ipad would do this where the white iPad wouldn't...

So that is a pro and con for both colour iPads.

I don't associate the white one with looking "girly" or whatever, but the black simply looks better to me and I'll get that.

This is what is making me doubt my decision for a white model.
I like the look of the white model better. But am considering black for these reasons.

I have to agree with you here. These seem to be legitimate concerns with a white bezel. Is a bright white a bit harder on the eyes? especially at night? Having said this, however, I am still going to make my decision based on my own preferences in the end. Furthermore, it would have nothing to do with white being feminine because that is purely a matter of perspective, a perspective I do not share with some kind folks here :)

However, I hope best best buy carries the white model so that I can see both for myself.. That would be the most important thing.

A real man wouldn't worry about his hair turning white with age, while a less secure man would reach for the Just For Men hair color.

I can think of any number of things that would be worse.

No one want s to get old. Grey hair is a reminder. ......One ....hair....at....a....time....:D

White/Black for Photos

In the photography world many will tell you viewing photos against black area will bring out richer colors. You eyes can be fooled when viewing against a lighter area. White will tend to wash out the image and not give an exact color match. This might not be a factor with the White Ipad. I plan on getting white (I am a 40 year old male) and my wife is planning on the black. I have always liked the clean apple white products. Plus used to have a black and thought a switch might be good till Sept when the even newer one comes out
