I'm not so sure that the company is doing it for the right reasons, probably just didn't want to loose all those sales because of high priced plans, but I'm glad for the Canadians, enjoy your iPhones.

This is definitely a step up, and it was enough to convince me.

I planned on buying the Iphone with no data plan and just suckin on the wi-fi until they came out with better prices. This is good enough for me.

This is great for those in Canada. I wonder if there will be supply issues that prevent those who would like an iPhone from getting one at in time to activate it before the end of August. If there are supply issues, will Rogers be issuing rain checks or something to lock in the contract prior to the arrival of your phone. This will be interesting to watch unfold. Those of you in Canada, please keep the rest of us posted.

a temporary fix, this deal will only last until august 31st, and rogers isnt get a whole lot of iphones anyway. not a lot of people will be able to capitalize on this promo, and even if, you only have a short time doing so.

why cant rogers release unlimited plan? because its the only GSM provider in canada, and its got a monopoly, and they will squeeze every penny out of you possible. rogers has no intentions of 'satisfying its customers'

GREAT news. Assuming Fido duplicates this offer (as I want per-second billing) I will be attempting to get one of these babys on the 11th. If not, definitely before the 31st of August.

A $20 voice plan + 30 for 6GB + 8 for VVM = $58 + SAF+911 etc = Approximately $65 a month. FAR easier to swallow than what it was going to cost earlier with the $60 a month plan.

:):)

Thanks again to everyone who put the Pressure on Rogers/Fido.

Yeah Fido is on top of this :)

They already announced, called them

you can get it from any fido store

You sound like the kind of fella that won't be happy unless its free. Even then....

Give it a rest. This is precisely the kind of deal everyone was hoping for - a TON of data for a reasonable price. You're kidding yourself if you think you'd use it all.

Why is it so hard to admit that Rogers is actually doing the right thing?

I agree. If you're looking for a free ride, you're not gonna find it.

There are many voice plans (specially if you've grandfathered voice plan deals from years ago) that will come in under $30 or $40 with amazing features and plenty of voice. Add the $30 6GB promo and you're set.

This makes the $115 and $100 iPhone "value" plans a far worse deal than the 6GB plan.

Rogers execs likely spent quite a bit of time scratching their heads in a board room trying to come up with a way to save face while not showing that they're giving in.

So instead of admitting that they were wrong and changing their iPhone plans, they throw in this "Promotional" plan (for a limited time only), knowing full well that few of these people will ever use the 6GB and quieting the protest. In essence, they're still selling people the $60 iPhone plan and those who do go over 400mb will be offset by those who don't even use 100mb.

I'm happy with this because I'm given the flexibility to choose my voice plan, keep my $11 communication value pack (now worth over $20) and not have to worry about my data usage, regardless if I'll use the 6GB or not.

So... I'm a little bit unclear.

I'm currently with Rogers (I signed a 3 year contract 2 months ago).
My plan includes call, text, caller ID, voicemail, ect.

If i want a 16GB iPhone, can I go in tomorrow, add the $30 60GB data to my current plan, and then just walk out?

I won't have to sign another contract onto of mine, will I?
Will I have to get an iPhone plan or will mine be transferable?

EDIT:
I just got off the phone with a Rogers rep.
So, he says that I can add the $30 6GB ontop of my current plan.

however, because I only signed with Rogers in October, I may have to pay a cancellation fee for my KRZR because I'm not eligible for an upgrade.

Good, I called my local one and they open at 10 am.

So, I wonder how early I should get there? Are they likely to run out? If there's going to be a line, I wonder how early people will get there.

But are the City Fido plans (which are no longer offered) eligable?

If so - wonderful. I'm all over it. If not will have to dump my City Fido.

So who's camping over night on Thursday? I'm going to check out my local Rogers store, and if there are people there, I'll stay the night until 10. If there are no people, I will be arriving at 6am to wait for them to open. I WILL have an iPhone on Friday.

I think this is the first time I have seen an online petition actually do something.

P-Worm

Sorry for getting all causal on you, but if you've never see an online petition do something before, why are you assuming this one did now? :p

Seems more likely that both the petition and Rogers offering better plans were caused by the same thing: widespread consumer unhappiness with the previous plans.

That's not clear. Obviously, it's only possible to opt-in to this contract up until August 31. It's not at all obvious that people who do opt-in would automatically revert to some other deal on August 31 - we'd need to get a look at the terms of the contract to know for sure.

If the terms of the contract simply say that the price is $30 per month, and the data cap is 6GB, then it is reasonable to expect that this price and data cap will continue for the lifetime of the contract. If Rogers ever wanted to change those terms, they'd be obliged to give you advance notice, and you'd have the right to reject the new terms and terminate the contract without penalty.

If the terms of the contract specifically state that the $30/6GB terms are an introductory rate, and that after a specific period of time some other specific pricing scheme would kick in, then indeed, you'd be SOL.

Why is this being offered for a limited time only?? What happens after August 31 - do the rates go back to 400mb?? I don't think this is right. If they are going to offer 6GB, it should be good after August 31.

I think its fairly obvious that the 6gb plan is solid throughout the term of the contract.

Exactly!

Bunch of lemmings running towards the fire screaming we won!.

Maybe not.

How many consumer petitions can gather that many signatures in a few days?

If I were Rogers, I would take that as evidence that a hell of a lot of people wanted an iPhone, and so it would be reasonable to give better deals in the hopes of snagging a large number of new customers.

I think it is advertised as temporary so they can see how many people actually buy one. If not many, they will go back. If a lot, they will probably keep the plan.

I wouldn't panic too much on this.

First of all, if you want the 6gb deal, sign up before August 31. You're being given plenty of notice here. But I think Rogers will likely either keep the plan ongoing - "the response to this has been overwhelming, we've decided to offer it ongoing" or they will offer something similar.

There is no way after offering this plan they can go back to the original posted data packages.

Keep hitting hard, my Canadian friends, and don't spare your provider from the very much deserved fiasco on the 11th. This last minute offer is a success, but you should never forget the outrageous plans they announced initially and which are still in place.

LOL, no charge for incoming sms...what a farce!!!

I'm not 100% sure about this ... but the press release says only "in-market" voice plans are eligible ... I'm assuming "in-market" means plans that are CURRENTLY available only.
