Mine arrived in a white bubble envelope using second class at about 12 noon. Annoyed that apple post a preorder using second class, had they sent it first class it would have arrived yesterday

It was a nice coincidence, i was on my way out to peak district and the red royal mail was turning in to the pavement. Nice little surprise, will install now and report back

:apple: It's Saturday night and my pre ordered copy of SL is still somewhere on the way, so I decided to get it another way. Downloaded it via torrent and installed. I don't know what to say it's a rocket great. Had 90.57GB available now I have 102.37GB. It's faster, smoother on my iMac 20", 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB RAM. Well done Apple!!!!! :) :) :)

This has all been very quick compared to the Panther launch, for example. That took ages to arrive, I think about a week IIRC - again using the postal system. That created one of the longest UK-themed threads on here, btw.

Although it is different for UTD customers, if you are buying a retail copy it and you really cannot risk a delay I would say it is better to go to a reseller/Apple Store and buy it in person if that is possible.

Mine arrived!

Wish I paid a bit more and got the nice packaging though!:p

Interesting: your disc says "Upgrade DVD" on the left hand side. My £25 retail version says "Install DVD". Does that mean you will have to install Leopard first if you want to rebuild your system?

Is this correct? If so then this could be good news for me :)

My work is treating it as a bank holiday so I just assumed it was a national thing.

Well, part of Scotland at least:

Royal Mail said:
There will be no mail collection or delivery services in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Monday 31st August because of the Bank Holiday. Deliveries and collection services in Scotland will be made in line with traditional observance of the August Bank Holiday. There will be no mail services operating in most of northern Scotland where the holiday is generally observed (the exception being the Orkney Islands where services will operate). In most of western Scotland, the holiday is generally not observed (the exception being some parts of Dumfries and Galloway and in Fort William) so most mail delivery and collection services will be operating in these areas as usual. In much of eastern Scotland, including Cowdenbeath, Livingston and Arbroath, the bank holiday is generally taken and so mail services will not operate; the exceptions being parts of Edinburgh where deliveries will operate except in EH1-3, EH11-12, and EH15-17. Mail services in Dundee, Perth and most of the Borders, will not operate on Monday 31st August. All mail services resume on Tuesday 1st September.

Given that you're work is observing the holiday, chances are there will be no mail. As I am in the West (Glasgow), mail is normal.

Haven't posted on here since 2006, but the excitement of Snow Leopard has me back! Anyway, I am waiting on two copies of 10.6 - one of the £25 ones for my Early 2008 MacBook and one of the £7.95 copies for my father, who bought a Mid 2009 MacBook a month or so ago. I ordered the UTD copy the day after he bought the computer and I ordered my copy the day Snow Leopard was announced. According to Apple they both shipped on the evening of the 26th, but I haven't recieved either yet. I don't mind (Leopard has served me well for over a year now; a couple more days with it will be just fine, I'm sure!), but hopefully 10.6 will turn up on either Tuesday or Wednesday (Apple say expected delivery is Wednesday for both copies).

Really looking forward to it, though. Not bad for £25!

Thanks for that. I am in Dundee so I guess that settles it. Tuesday at the earliest.

Using second class is a bit of a joke when we're paying more than the US (including taxes).

Oh please... Since when has it made any difference in this country whether you post something first or second class? I've posted first and second class letters at the same time and they both arrive on the same day.

That was my initial thought - however I have now done a full install directly from the SL Upgrade DVD on a wiped HDD which worked.

I did a guide on YouTube which is uploading as we speak. I will post a link when it has finished.

Cheers. :) :apple:

I have just installed SL on my wife's machine as well. I like to think she is the first person in the UK using Snow Leopard who didn't even know it existed! :D

It's not the point. Apple always screw their customers in the UK on nearly everything.

So true. At today's exchange rate $29 is under £17.80. So why is it retailing for £25?

God we're even closer to China so shipping costs should be less than to USA!!

I pre-ordered SL on August the 26th on Amazon.co.uk and it said the dispatch estimate would be August 27th and arrive on the 1st or 2nd. A day later it said they had run out of stock and that it would be dispatched on the 1st and arrive 3rd or 4th.

I know it's only a few days but what I don't get is that on the Amazon.co.uk site it list's 10.6 as In Stock. So why the hell hasn't it shipped. Has anyone bought from Amazon.co.uk like today and see what the ship date was?

Amazon UK shipped my 'Snow Leopard' DVD yesterday. I'm actually very surprised they did, they're usually very slow at picking up on software releases. Especially Apple ones. I ordered it the second it appeared on Amazon UK (yes i checked pretty much every hour, deary me)

The bloody annoying thing is i live in the Channel Islands, and for some arcane reason Apple won't ship here from their website. We also don't have an official Apple shop over here. While this isn't a problem for ordering most Apple things because i can get them from 3rd party retailers, it means i can't get the 'up-to-date' version of Snow Leopard Server even though I'm entitled to it because no one i tried contacting at Apple would post a minute CD box to this island. I even said i wouldn't mind being emailed the serial number and i would get Media from elsewhere, but they wouldn't allow this either. I refuse to pay the full price for Snow Leopard Server when i'm entitled to it for under £10! God Apple you do annoy me sometimes.... I can't get BTO Macs over here either.

  1. £25 - VAT = £21.75 which is a bit closer to $29
  2. Our discs are made in Ireland

I had a look at your video but couldn't make it out.

Was anything orginally installed on that Hard Drive that you wiped?

While people are pessimistic about the postal system, it's not that bad.

If they had posted it first class I'm confident that it would have arrived on Friday.

With a £3.75 premium over the US (including the difference in tax), there's plenty of room for them to splash out on first class postage (especially as they probably get it at a massively discounted rate).

Has anyone heard when PC World and the like are going to get copies of this in-store? I'm working away from home now so could do with picking up a copy from somewhere local as my Apple copy never showed up.
