This made the update for iWorks 09 available on my Mac:

1. Change system language from German to English
2. ???
3. Profit :)

So even though I bought iWork 09 on a DVD back in 2010, I shouldn't get the new versions, and instead should simply buy it again? Should I throw out my iLife 11 install DVD that I bought, remove the apps, and pay $14 each for them again?

Removing the apps might indeed help as step one. Reinstall them from the DVD once again.

After I re-installed all three from the iWork 09 DVD on Mavericks, the app store promptly showed me the free updates in the app store - directly from the DVD version to the latest versions.

I wish people would show a little more patience given all the software updates Apple had to coordinate in the past days.

Sign Out Solved This Problem For Me

As soon as I signed out of the Mac App Store all the buttons changed to update. I clicked update it had me sign in again and voila I was able to update both my iLife suite and iWork Suite with no problems.

Same here, it retained my old iWork suite, Garageband and iMovie.

Both versions seem to work, I'm tempted to keep a copy of the old iMovie until I get used to the new one, but I assume it's safe to delete the older apps?

The only old app that it did not keep was iPhoto?

I make zip archives of the old apps, just in case. Never had to use one, but you never know.

To the frontpage with you! Great tip, i tried just about anything suggested, only this worked.

I'm having a problem getting iMovie updated.

It tried to update several times, and each time it said that the update failed. I restarted a few times - finally went to the iMovie page on the app store (rather than the update page) and told it to update. It downloaded - and says that it updated.

But it didn't update. When I open iMovie - it still opens as iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. But when I look at the App Store, it says iMovie version 10.0 was installed.

I tried deleting iMovie 9.0.9 entirely - but when I do that - it says that I have to pay $14.99 to download iMovie! Then I took it out of the trash and moved it back to the applications folder. And while the App Store for a moment said "update" it quickly switched over to "installed."

Be careful when contacting support to rectify this. I was told I needed iWork '11 to be eligible.

(*there is no iWork '11 and I had to go up the chain to get them to understand that).

I am pretty sure there IS an iWork '11 because all of my iWork apps were just that.

This is the solution!!!
I changed the sytem language from Greek to English and all apps appeared!!!
Thank you.:)

So did you change it to GREEK first? Then back to ENGLISH? Or was your system language set to Greek before you started all this?

I can also confirm this is the solution. Thanks, I tried all the other suggestions with no success.

I installed from the 09 iWorks DVD and yesterday my apps showed no update. Just went in now and they are available to update. Looks like they've figured out the problem? Updating now. ;)

Unfortunately, I can no longer take a screen shot as the apps have all updated - but I can assure you that my apps were '11 in the "About" screen.

** I must admit - perhaps I am thinking of my iLife apps. Because my iMovie still shows as '11.

Well pics win- thanks for playing! Go ahead and google iWork '11, all you'll find are unrealized rumors.

About screens will show the same info as the above wiki.

It LOOKS like it's in the system as a puchase, but the date column isn't labeled: is that purchase date (I didn't buy it yesterday) or is it an updated date (my iMovie was updated yesterday, but the date is still old) is the question? I didn't see it in there yesterday, but I heard they were having problems. So I'm not sure if Apple has flagged it as an app store app that I "own" or it's just updating the software on my machine; just in case, I'll be sticking the above update on my backup drive (with other purchases) so if a machine ever dies I can get it going again.

Maybe if i'd just been patient, it'd have worked. I don't know.

(Reposted from one of the other threads but people are talking about these problems in several).

Gary

If you go to My Account in iTunes, rather than MAS, and look at recent purchases you should see that you have purchased the updated apps for free.

Awesome, it works! Nothing else worked. Thanks!

Glad you got there in the end :D

Solution

I got this from a reply on Ars Technica, but it worked 100% for me.

Starting situation: I have iWork and iLife installed, which I had bought on DVD years ago. I did register them using the same email address as my Apple ID account; not sure if that is important. I have upgraded all three of my Mavericks-compatible Macs to Mavericks. In the App Store, iWork and iLife apps do not appear in either the "Purchases" nor "Updates" areas.

Solution:

  1. Go to the "Featured tab in App Store
  2. Under "Quick Links" click "Account"; enter AppleID password
  3. At bottom of page click "Reset" button next to "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading"
  4. Go to Updates tab; all iWork apps are there now!

Once I did this on one computer, the apps all showed up in the "Updates" section on all computers.
