At least he is out of the league. Better than him going to Texas. Lee might be a great Postseason pitcher but his regular season seems sketchy.

Thank god we wont have to hear TBS love fest with the guy next year god i wanted to throw up with the way they were showing there favoritism for Lee.

I would not have been upset if Lee was a Yankee I just don't see him being as big as people think he is.

Definitely. I'm ok with him being in the NL. And I was afraid they were just going to keep throwing money at him until he said yes. So, now we move on.

Anyone think they're going to seriously go after Grienke?

I don't see Grienke anywhere near New York or any big market. He has emotional problems and he needs a small market with no pressure.

Man, Lee going to the Phillies came out of nowhere. lol I was really thinking he'd go back to the Rangers. I never thought he'd go to NY. I wonder what the Yanks are gonna do now. I don't see Greinke going to NY, either. I've got Social Anxiety Disorder and if I was a good pitcher, I don't think I could handle the NY media, either.

Sweet, the dreaded yankees did not get their man.

I really wonder if how they treated his wife during the play offs had any impact to his decision.

If you recall, the classless yankee fans poured beer on her, hurled insults and verbally assaulted her. The yankee organization apologize, for that behavior but I think it put a bad taste in their mouths

X-mass came a little early in Philly this year...:D:cool:

Peace

And for all you Yankee fans, Joe Blanton's available... he...he...he...

Looks like I get to pull my Cliff Lee jersey out of retirement. ;)

Well, the Phillies starting rotation is set and looking very strong (Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, Hamels). There is still the lingering issue that the team doesn't have any strong right-handed batting. I am sure that the front office is looking into that now when they try to trade Blanton away. Ruiz and Polanco (Victorino and Rollins switch as necessary) just won't cut it. They are all good contact hitters, but there is no power bats on the right side in Philly now that Werth is gone.

Here's to hoping that 2011 is another "Year of the Pitcher"!

ahh i seriously can't wait for baseball season to start up again... the eagles and flyers are looking pretty good but hot damn if we don't have one of the best-looking pitching rotations i've ever seen

Life is good in Philly... Oh ya and where's all the Yankee fans? Any bridge's in NY...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

And as for this...

I would not have been upset if Lee was a Yankee I just don't see him being as big as people think he is.

Nothing personal, but...

Never mind the fact that the Yankees thought that Lee was worth 6 years + 132 million at 22 million/season (or 7 with the reported 16 million option = 148 million = 21+ million/year)... Lee signed for LESS years and LESS total money (though more per year)... sour grapes, much? ;)

Anytime someone thinks they had something "in the bag", whether it's a game, a free agent, a promotion, whatever... when they don't get it, the first response is almost always to minimize what you originally wanted ("Oh, I didn't really want the promotion because it would have meant a lot more work...").

Sour grapes FTW! :D

Okay, I think it's safe to say the Phillies' starting rotation has surpassed the Giants. Yikes. The only downside is they're all in their 30s, except for Hamels.

But now the Phils probably don't have the money left to fill some of the other holes in their team, like beefing up their bullpen and outfield. They're putting a lot of faith in Domonic Brown.

Just rember who lost to the giants with the so called best pitching staff in the leauge last year oh yeah that was the Phillies :D

It wasn't the Phillies pitching that killed them in the playoffs, it was their hitting. They were hitting very well during the regular season (when they weren't plagued by injuries) but their bats started to disappear at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. That is why, while getting Lee is great, the Phillies still need some right handed hitting.

I believe my post was discussing Phillies hitting, not pitching. You can have the best pitchers in the world (like the Phillies do ;) ) but you can't win if you don't get hits and score runs.

Yet he goes back to Philly where the worst fans in the country live.

The only reason the Yankees were going to go 7 was because that is where the thought the market was. I doubt they really wanted to go anything over 5.

Lee is a great post season pitcher but his regular season record isn't that spectacular. I would still Put C.C. 1 over Lee.

nobody gets a pass if they suck in philly, regardless of who they are
So I don't see why it would be an issue for Lee in NY vs Philly. If the media and the fans were his biggest fear he would have stayed in Texas.

And if anyone makes a signing or trade based on how a player did in one game, then they're a fool. It's statistically meaningless and gives no indication of how the player or the opposing team will do in the future.

Player performance can be very inconsistent. On paper the Giants look to have one of the best rotations and so would the Phillies whether Lee signs there or not. But a million things can happen between now and October. Someone could blow their arm out, lose velocity on their fastball, screw up their mechanics, suffer a personal setback of some kind, etc.

Bullpen performance is especially spotty, with very few relief pitchers being effective year after year. In fact, if your team had a great bullpen last season, you should assume that they won't be as good in 2011, even with the same players. There is very little evidence that most relief pitchers are well-suited to that role and can stay healthy enough to do it over the long term. And no front office in the league has figured out how to successfully avoid that inconsistency yet.

Lee was pitching for a big contract last year. Who knows if he will be as motivated to make a huge impression now. Lee has been prone to injuries in the past.

Been waiting for the sour grapes from the Yankee fans;) So how many of you Yankee fans are lining up to jump off the bridge:rolleyes:

And dude, let's get something straight, the Phils lost the NLCS because of their lack of timely hitting, NOT THE PITCHING...;)

R2/C2...:D
