Couple questions:
1. Does anybody know if a BTO MP can be shipped to my local Apple store and picked up there? I'm gone a LOT and I live alone in a slightly sketchy neighborhood so I'd HATE to have this box sitting on my unprotected doorstep all day while I'm out.

2. Most everybody seems to be ordering the 2.8. Is this the sweetspot for CPU's with this new generation of MPs? I was going to get the 3.0 but I'm wondering if I'll be wasting my money. Just FYI, I'll be running Final Cut, Logic, Photoshop as my main apps.

to answer your first question, they wont leave it on your doorstep because a signature is required and you can also arrange a pick up from the warehouse

I've had that done with UPS a few times, but is this an option that I can choose when I'm ordering the MP online? Do they always ship via FedEx?

you cant pick that option online, you have to call fed ex before they attempt to deliver

1. they ship nothing custom to the store FOR YOU, they only carry stock models. You can't purchase at the apple store and have it sent to your house either...

I learned this while trying to "EVADE TAXES" by purchasing it in a Delaware Apple Store rather than in Pennsylvania. $300+ tax :( Wound up ordering it online.

2. They only leave it without a signature if you specifically request they do while ordering.

That's the worst part too (they do the same with Apple Care as well). You wait in anticipation for your new Apple Computer and you miss the FedEx / DHL guy and find that little "HA HA HA, you missed your computer" sticker left by Fed Ex. Then you have to call, and call, and meet the carrier, but the truck is out, but maybe you can come meet him on the corner of X street, and we'll call you back. Or you can wait till tomorrow, but you want it now. Blah blah.

I wish there was another way.

I've been reading these forums for a while, but I wanted to make an account and chime in just to say I am going absolutely crazy waiting for my MP to ship.

I got the "Ships by: Feb 20 Delivered By: Feb 26" going, so it's going to be a long couple of weeks.

In addition, also ordered 8GB of memory from OWC. Currently shopping for additional hard drives.

I'm on a Pentium III with a 13 inch crt until mine gets here. I think I can agree with that statement. :)
...and I am still on a 1.5 GHZ Power Book G4 that has been my editing system for Final Cut Pro, and Motion, Photoshop CS, Aperture, Shake, and basically everything else I do on the computer. I have been waiting for this update for a number years. The 3 - 5 week wait is just another brick in the wall...
I can't wait to have the Mac Pro rock my video editing world...on the last lap!

I ordered on the 8th (the day they were announced) at noon PST. Supposed to ship Feb. 13th.

I'm pretty tired of waiting. But I will not change my order and go with the ATI card just to get it sooner. I want that 8800GT. And I want it NOW!!!! :p

I seriously check my order status page every 3 hours hoping somehow they got everything squared away and the shipping date is tomorrow.

I really hope the 20th of Feb turns out to be an overstatement and it comes sooner.

I don't think my body can handle it.

Heheh, me too. This is freaking me out!

could the deliverydate suddenly drop days/weeks, if the supplychain gets worked out? How big is that possibility?

It's a big possibility. I expect shipping to start happening in about a week and Apple will probably take a week to ship all of them. Additionally, from my friend at nVidia, it's not a supply issue.. it's a SW issue.

If you see the charge on your credit card, that means that they have shipped your computer. Last time I ordered from Apple, I kept checking the pending charges on my card. The charge appeared before I was notified of shipment. That way, I knew it was on it's way. :)

Mac Pro -not yet shipped

I ordered my Mac Pro with the upgraded NVIDEA card on the 17th and it is yet to have even been "PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT" I also ordered two 30" displays and they arrived today 17th-22nd (not bad) but wheres the damn machine?

/add me to the list
