thats what i always assumed wireless charging would be when i first heard about it. the pad has a wire...and the phone needs to be on the pad...what in the world is the point? is it really just to save the nanosecond it takes to remove the cable from the phone itself?

The 8/8+ or X does allow you to charge and use your ear buds at the same time. Just a thought for anyone holding onto their 6/6S for the head phone jack

I am using an iPhone 6 plus now. Before the keynote, I really had a full feeling to upgrade my new phone this year but I am really disappointed. The prices (especially the UK prices) and the cut out of Touch ID in the X are killing me. I prefer to use my finger to unlock the phone. IMO, the 8 Plus is not worth upgrade and I feel it is a minor change for me. I don`t fancy the wireless charging. Well, I am thinking to keep it for another year.

I have a 6, I'm 95% decided on the 8.

I don't really care for the plus models because they're too big, and the X is great but $300 premium isn't worth it for me. The 8 has all the features of the X that I want:
  • dust proof
  • water resistant
  • wireless charging
  • same A11 bionic processor
  • same 12 megapixel primary camera as in the 8+ and X
Also I don't want to wait until November and don't really care about animojis.

Not a 6s Owner, but a 6 owner. I'm not sure now. I think the 8 might last me 4 to 5 years the 7 might last 2-3 years. Once is cheaper than the other and only one offers 128 gb. I'm not sure.

Both iPhone 7 and 8 just have 2 GB RAM.

So the iPhone 7 will last maybe 12-24 months more.

The iPhone 8 might end up lasting the same. But most probably it will outlast the iPhone 7 by up to 12 months.

damn... the mood has changed around here. last week everybody was on that iphone X hype train and now everybody hates it and i'm not really sure why cause we got exactly what was leaked.

I've run a 6s for two years and want an upgrade. I traditionally have bought S models and waited for the more "refined" version of the newer iPhone. This year has thrown me off with the delayed availability of the X, the price increase for the 8 and the price cut for the 7 (which is still good). I go back and forth between all three options; I've recently thought about just waiting for the X, but I don't like beta testing new iPhone builds, and I want to buy the better version of the phone a year from now.

What are you guys thinking?
My current options are:
- stick with my 6S Plus
- upgrade to X
- upgrade to 8 Plus

There's a chance I'll stick with the 6S Plus for another year, but I might still change my mind, as I was really looking forward to getting a new iPhone this year, especially one with an improved camera. The 6S Plus camera sucks in low light. I take a lot of photos and I really do want a good camera on my phone.

I really like the form factor of the X and its big screen and I'm curious about all the technology. Not sure I like FaceID though.
The 8 Plus would have been a good choice but as I said in another thread, what puts me off from getting it is the weight. It's heavier and thicker than the 6S Plus, even if it's very little, on the long run you really start feeling it. For me, the ideal phablet size and weight factor was the 6 Plus.

The price is not an issue as the 8 Plus would cost more or less the same, a hundred bucks give or take.
I don't care about the headphone jack as I got AirPods a couple weeks ago and love them.
A minus for both devices is the memory. I can't believe Apple does not provide a 128 gb version. :( My current 6S Plus is a 128 gb device and I am using around 98 GB ... well, was, because since the keynote I've been trying to slim it down to fit into a 64 GB outfit :D I'm suspecting that the 64 GB devices will be in high demand.

So my option in the vote would be, "can't make up my mind yet" :D but by reading forums like macrumors I hope I can make up my mind soon.

I think yourself being an iPhone 6 owner, those would be some significant changes with the iPhone 8. And I agree, for those who are considering the iPhone , the wait is going to be that much longer until November, depending on when the even receive it.

Android user here, but looking to pick-up an iPhone just to mix things up.

For me, the 6s hits that sweet-spot.
It's still a damn good phone that is more than capable.
It's not all that different from the iPhone 8. Incremental changes IMO.
It will get iOS updates for several more years.
And it can now be had for a great price on the used/refurbished/secondary sales market. Your not going to get too much money back if you sell now.

If I had a 6S or 6S Plus, I would skip 'upgrading' it to the iPhone 8 and until next year to see if the technology and swipe gestures from the iPhone X make their way to other models (iPhone 9 or SE 2).

That being said, if you live in the Vancouver, BC area and want to unload your 6S (minimum 64gb of storage and in clean condition) drop me a PM!

All the rumours I've seen say that the iPhone 8 is the end of the line for that design and that Apple will move over fully to the X design with two sizes of handset in 2018. I assume this will eventually be joined by a third size in the SE mould.

My iPhone 6 was pre-ordered 3 years ago, and has been a great phone all along. Good enough to resist upgrading through the 6s and 7 releases.

It is starting to show its age though, primarily with the charging socket wear. Pain in the ... to wake up in the morning and head out into the day with a 20% charge.

I am really hoping to stay excited for the X, but I figure I will have that sorted over the next 6 weeks. The + size is too big to ride in my front pocket, so 8 vs X for me at the end of October.

It feels like the gotta-have-it-upon-release cycle has been broken for me. Being on the still-fantastic 6s Plus 128Gb model, I have room to breathe until I upgrade again (instead of every 2 years, I plan on using this for 3 years). In these 2 release years since the 6s, I see nothing compelling me to go to the 7, 8, or X. The phone market has truly matured, just as the PC/CPU market did about 10 years ago. It's not so much about capability anymore as it is about battery life.

If my 6s battery life ever degrades to the point it annoys me, then 2 options exist: pay Apple $79 for a fresh battery change, or upgrade "when I NEED to, to whatever is available that entices me". I'm almost thinking that this could be a mid-year upgrade where you can score some pretty sweet incentive deals on a phone, or just wait to see what comes out the following Apple release period.

With Apple's current feature set + crazy pricing, it may have helped break some of us from the mad release rush we put ourselves through over the past 10 years. Perhaps?

I have a 6S, 6S+, SE and a 6+. I think I'm good for another year. I bought the SE back in March I think and haven't really used it. Now that the battery on my 6S+ is having moments where it has very fast discharges, I am starting to use the 6S and SE. The SE is a 64GB that I bought from T-Mobile just after they announced the 128GB and I really only needed the 64GB. If I do get a new iPhone this year, it will be another SE but this one will be the 128GB to replace my 128GB 6S+, otherwise, I'm fine skipping the iPhone once again this year.

I am also an Android user. I've been using my Note 5 as my daily but I'm also using my S8+ a bit more as well. I really haven't taken the S8+ with me anywhere since buying it in June so I'm thinking it's time I started using it as my daily.

I have three lines on T-Mobile for $100 (3 all in lines for $100) so this is why I keep so many phones because I enjoy swapping the sims between them and taking a different phone with me when I feel the urge.

All I have to do is bring my wireless charging pad with me on the train so I can charge my phone and use my ear buds at the same time...?

I'm on 6+, and I'm holding on it for yet another year.

8 is the same design, which sucks, IMO.
X is Xpensive and first gen product, which I'll pass as well.

Really wish them to come up with SE2.

I was waiting for OLED to come to the 4.7" or smaller screen. Since that wasn't announced on Tuesday, I won't buy.

The year's standard iPhones should rightly be called the 7s/+.

They had the CPU bump, better camera, portrait mode & 4K capability, wireless charging, etc...but nothing that truly warranted calling it an ip8/+.

If anyone has a 6/+ or earlier and the 64gb entry model is sufficient space, it may be time to consider upgrading. Or buy any of the now cheaper models, that have come down in price.

I know what some are already speculating with the 2018 iPhones. You could wait till next year...some may.

But I'm fine with my 6s. Still on iOS 9 and it will stay that way.

I have a three year old 6, received it on launch day. Running iOS 10 without issue. Other than the battery, no problems and I swapped it out and all is still good. I think I'll let this phone ride for another year.

I was wondering if your carrier will be offering $300 for iPhone 6's if you upgrade. That would definitely help. I know T-Mobile is doing it.
Great suggestion, but the "6" units are shot. Great condition physically but one won't charge at all (Son is rocking a 5S as a stopgap) and the other IP6 will charge, but start complaining randomly about low battery as soon as it's off the charger. Given these issues, I'm betting they're worthless to AT&T (My carrier)

If you get the wireless charger pad, you could charge and still listen on your headphones at the same time.

I know but in everyone's iPhone purchase, you always get a few accessories. Whether it's a case, maybe AppleCare, maybe AirPods, or now, maybe a charging pad. 1k becomes to 2k very quickly. It just doesn't make sense anymore.

So go to Apple and get a $79 fresh battery replacement, as a hold-over measure. You'd be good for another couple years or so.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a 6S+ to replace my 6S. I really just want a Plus, my iPhone is way too small compared to my Pixel XL.

Am I crazy? I'm torn between ordering an 8+ and enrolling in IUP or buying an AT&T 6S+ full price and somehow financing that.

I think I can use the 256GB, I actually managed to fill up 128GB once, and I also don't want to deal with the whole 'who made my chip' BS from 2015 again. But it feels like the 8+ isn't worth it.

How big of an upgrade is the camera on the regular 8 vs the regular 6s? Everyone loves the + model cameras, but I haven't seen a lot on the regular cameras in the 7 or 8

The 5.8" OLED X is essentially the same dimensions as the 4.7" bezel phones.

It's close...but even the ipX screen size is still bigger than I'd want for my daily driver.

Ideally, my wish is for the 2018 4.7" iPhone will be OLED and with less bezels...the screen size would be about 4.3"

The only reason why I have the 6s and not the SE is because the 6s debuted earlier.

Keep. My 6s is still plenty fast and I like the headphone jack.

This.

I love my 6s plus. Won't upgrade until it craps out. And even then I will get the year older model.
I grabbed the 6splus shortly after the 7 came out and it was a great decision.

After a conversation with my wife, who turned out to be a huge enabler, I decided to go all in and get the 256GB iPhone X when it goes up for preorder. Since my other choice was an 8 Plus with the same amount of storage, whose final cost would be approximately $1,030 after NYC taxes, the $200 price difference is almost negligible. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't make the price any less easier to swallow. I'm hoping that my 6s Plus will still be able to fetch $300 or so by the time I receive the X, which I plan on keeping for at least two years, if not three.
