This whole pre check thing just seems like a "we had to find a way to make extra cash". What is to prevent you from becoming an extremist after the fact? Perhaps it's just my ignorance of the process, but it simply seems like a way to generate money without any real security effort.

Yea, the $80/5 years is going to make some super rich. lol. Try another one from the TSA haters handbook.

Shoes off? Wow! Is that because they're steel-capped?.

Actually, at one occasion I asked them to see what they had seen when my shoes caused a problem, and each shoe had quite a large bit of T-shaped steel in the soles. Probably makes the soles last longer.

I don't care one way or the other for the TSA, I've personally never had a problem with them. However, you did not bother to even try to answer the issue of what prevents someone from becoming an extremist during the five year period? Nothing as far as I can see, so basically at that point it's simply generating money because it sure isn't making anyone safer.

The TSA already requires laptops to be removed from carry-on bags and placed in a separate bin with nothing above or below, and it appears this will now expand to devices like iPads and portable gaming consoles.

There is a caveat to this - you don't have to remove your laptop if you have a TSA approved bag that has a separate compartment for the laptop only. I have a Tumi TPass brief that butterflies. Others make similar bags and briefcases too.

Since 9/11, remind me again how many airlines in the US have been hijacked and flown into buildings? How many planes have mysteriously "Blown up" in flight? I mean, if you have a clue as to what you are talking about, shouldn't we be seeing planes dropping out of the sky every week? Bottom line - you will NEVER hear about the weapons, drugs and explosives that are discovered - daily.
oh right. 9/11, the day when some arabs were able to defeat the most well guarded airspace on the entire planet and crash 3 buildings to the ground with 2 planes.

Seems legit

Not really a big deal. Just apply and pay for TSA Precheck. Yes, you are essentially paying the Government a "bribe" so that they promise to not harass you during travel screenings.

Trust me, there is no such promise in place, and they still very much have the opportunity to harass the everliving **** out of you, Known Traveler or not. If you're lucky, you get to keep your shoes on while they do it.

I'd love it if those that hate on TSA, because they were jedi mind tricked into it most probably, to have a separate line and board with no safety checks. No infringing on their freedoms! I bet there wouldn't be to many takers. lol.
You sure they are the ones who have been Jedi mind tricked? Seems like you have been if you think these government checkpoints prevent anything. "We" can take others rights, if "we" "think" "we" will be safer. Such a dumb concept

"Most probably"---wtf, try most likely. And even then it's speculation based on misinformation.

It's never been about a separate line for people who understand what's happening. The people who want freedom want freedom for all.

TSA Pre√ and Global Entry have paid for themselves in time savings so many times over.
if you're canadian/near the canadian border, nexus membership is a much better deal. you have to have a background check and interview with agents from both countries, but the fee is cheaper (i believe i only paid $60 for the five years) and includes enrollment for global entry and TSA precheck. customs and security are covered for both canada and the US with nexus and you can use the kiosks in customs regardless of where you're arriving from.

The steel shank provides support and stability.

At least one pair of my hiking boots had the steel shanks. They aren't typically in sneakers, but they are often found in high-quality dress shoes.

Steel shanks are commonly used in certain women's shoe designs, particularly high heels (not flats).

Just Google "steel shank shoe" or "steel shank high heels" for images.

Does this apply to TSAPre members?
Read the last two sentences of the article.

The EXACT point that "There's one way to get around the rules -- a TSA Pre membership. Customers who are enrolled in TSA Pre and using TSA Pre lanes will not need to remove their laptops or other electronic devices." PROVES beyond a doubt, that this has NOTHING to do with security. It is merely controlling the sheeple...

Why is TSA still a thing? Weren't they proven to be useless at catching weapons etc.? like 95% of weapons were never detected during a study carried out some time ago. Why the hell are they adding extra screening procedures when there hasn't been any attacks carried out by terrorists **** knows how long.
Because it's a way for the government to get us to routinely strip ourselves of our dignity and display subservience to our superiors.

They've been doing this every time I fly in the USA anyway when I was travelling with a laptop since 2012.

This is nothing new.

Jeez, whenever the TSA gets brought up here the comments sound like an AR15 owner forum when the talk of banning 100 round drum magazines to the general public comes up. Yet somehow sounds even more insufferable.

"BUT BUT BUT! MUH FREEDOM!"

"In the news today, a terrorist attempted to hijack a plane with weapons that was smuggled on board The suspect escaped detection because he was enrolled to TSA-pre..."
*and then the world laughs*

Its possible that a number of terrorists seeing the complicated security decided they did not want to risk the possibility of being caught before committing their actions and chose to do something else. There is no way of tracking those.
its kind of like tracking the number of murders that did not take place because of required waiting periods on gun purchases.

There actually are statistics on thwarted attacks and there appears to be a considerable number that have been thwarted, though it is likely under reported.

What frustrates me is that they continue to escalate the measures that they are using without presenting evidence that they are necessary. Especially given that people consistently seem to circumvent them either intentionally or by accident. But these aren't resulting in attacks.

I know people will say that you can't wait until another incident to implement new measures, but the terrorists seem to have moved on to easier methods like driving trucks into crowds.

This isn't like cyber security where it's a cat and mouse game. I think we are the only ones playing this game any more.
