just called the local target stores..

they will both be selling at 8 a.m. friday morning when they open they both said.

the first guy said they should be getting the shipment before friday's opening, so they'll be selling them once friday hits. he wasn't sure if they'd have all the models, but said they should get them all.

the second guy said they'll be selling at opening, didn't have the shipment in yet, but anticipated having at least some of each model.

8 a.m. friday = target for me.

Enjoy waiting 9 hours! Let us know how fun that is.

I don't think that Target is supposed to sell them before 5pm, but I'd guess that Target will be much more likely to accidentally sell early than BB. They might innocently say they will sell early now, but the question us what they will do when the box shows up marked with a great big "Do not sell before 5pm" warning label on it.

Ipad 2

dont you guys know there not selling till 5:00 pm at least thats what they said on website

that's kind of what i'm thinking, what they'll say when they get the shipment and it says not to sell before 5. oh well, i'm going to call again thursday night and see what they say then.

but i'm hoping for the walmart workers to flub it up and sell it early.

Already scheduled myself off for that day...(made sure to do that March 2nd, actually) so that day is solely devoted to waiting in line. I'll probably sleep in a bit--say 1030 or so...get ready, eat some quick breakfast, get to Apple Store by about 12. I have no problem waiting that long, I don't need to be the first in line, but there is no way I'm not getting one Friday. Have the day free, so might as well take in the experience that is an Apple product launch. Getting a black, 32Gb 3G, Apple Care, and probably gonna pass on a smart cover for now (the only good colors are the leather ones, and I'm not gonna spend 70 bucks on a leather flap...just go nude for a while, who knows maybe I will break down eventually and get the smart cover--we'll see.

I'm surprised Apple would let any retailer sell stock before them. Target must not be getting much. How fast can they sell out of 10-20 units per store?

i'll be pretty bummed if target or walmart doesn't sell me one before 5 that day. i dunno why, i just have a feeling they won't make me wait til 5 to buy it cuz i don't think many people will be trying to get one that day or anything in the places i'm going. i'll be surprised if there are.

There are significant legal risks for any retailer breaking street date. Any retailer authorized to sell apple product has to adhere to strict terms and conditions. In the contract there is clear documentation around violation of breaking street date including but not limited to financial penalties.

Additionally those BB, walmart or target employees that sell prior to "street date" are immediately terminated, no questions asked, and the on duty store manager is terminated as well.

To be bummed out because you dont get one before "street date" is a huge expectation that I think will ultimately set you up for failure. Maybe your having a dream within a dream but either way your dreaming.

Good luck with your purchase Friday after 5pm.

Seriously?! All these people saying they won't be happy if BB or whomever doesn't sell them an iPad before 5 are crazy! You've waited this long, you can't wait another couple of hours??? I'm going to be waiting those couple of hours in line...like everyone else! (Online orderers aside)

Headed to the nearest Apple store (2.5 hrs away in another state) for a line up time of 11am. I was contemplating getting there even earlier but after reading a thousand or so threads, most people seem to think that four hours is plenty of time to wait and with no shortage of stock.

This is my first queue for an Apple product launch. I've always purchased on-line but have been waiting for iPad 2 since iPad 1 came out. I never buy the first model. Of anything. So, needless to say, I'm pretty stoked about this launch and want to get my hands on one ASAP.

64gb white, WiFi only w/ red leather Smart Cover. (tethering plan from AT&T as well)

Am I the only getting the 64 gig 3g iPad 2? Everyone is going 16 gig and even less is going 32. I feel that since I'm getting thoe most expensive model, I'll just line up around 2:30 and I should be able to get mine. White :)

yeah i guess you're right. i didn't think that much into it, i guess i'm just using a parallel to when i used to buy CDs when i was a kid at this one store in town that used to sell them the day before (these were the days before i knew of CD leaks online). haha, not the same thing!

i guess i shouldn't say i expect to find somewhere to sell me one before 5, but so far best buy and apple stores are the only two who have officially announced that they're selling them at 5 p.m. that day. why the world has to wait until 5 p.m. (most probably because apple wants good press with people in lines), it just seems odd to me.

who knows, i'm still going to try my luck friday before 5. hell, i've got nothing else to do. i'll be calling targets and walmarts locally again on thursday night after work and seeing what they have for friday, then depending on what they say i'll do that. if they say 5, i'll go before 5 and scope it out. if they say 8 a.m. like they said to me on the phone tonight, then i'll be there at 8 a.m. to pick up my black wifi 32GB

Obviously nobody knows, but do you guys THINK lining up at the Apple store at 2:15 will get me a 32 gig wifi model?

Enjoy the launch event and when the over enthusiastic apple kid slaps you on the rear and yells apple ---smile.

game plan

I live around san jose, so i'll more than likely be carpooling with a coworker to valley fair after 5:30 or so. First stop will be best buy across the way at santana row to see if they've got any left or if there is a wait. If so, hit up apple store in the mall and wait. He wants a 16gb black, I'm going 64gb black.

If the wait is too long, I'll just go Saturday.

Most definitely. If they have enough to supply all those Targets and Best Buys and Wal-Marts, then I assume they will have their own stores more than adequately stocked on launch day.

I'm hopeful to find a retailer giving out tickets. Ideally SAMs Club since I can get in at 7 AM. Just grab my number, then go about my day.

I'm going to order one online and have it delivered while I watch TV and drink beer.

+1

I am going to be jealous of everyone else until I am back in the states for a short trip on the 29th, at which point I will be getting one with my boyfriend's lovely employee discount and bringing it back with me to England where all of my friends will hate me for getting an iPad at half the price that they could. Win win win win lose (the lose is for waiting an extra 2 1/2 weeks).

I'm gonna go to my local apple store at 4ish- to get a black 16gb wifi (or 32). Do you think it's too late?!
