Well Panther is available if anyone fancies a copy?
By the way, does anyone have any idea what sys reqs will be for Tiger? I'd like to get a family pack to cover my old Macs too but is it likely to be installable on a G3 600 iMac on CD?
I know the new iApps are starting to pull away from the older machines, but an OS kinda ought to be more inclusive.

Interesting...

Could someone clear something up for me? I'm fairly new to Mac.

Can a single copy of OS X (panther, tiger, any of them) be installed on several computers at once? Is there some limitation other than not "legally" being able to do it?

Just curious

Of course. But it isn't legal to do it. Just order a family pack.
Unlike Microsoft you can get 5 legal copies for the price of 2 regular copies.

Bad Karma, Man!
We're not like those 'orrible PC people are we?

Not 'Til June, Maybe?

Based on the rebate offer on Amazon, we could have to wait a couple more months. The form clearly says the rebate is good only on Pre-Orders, and the fine print states the offer must be completed by 5/31/05. Which means technicaly they could take pre-orders through the end of may and not have the product available until June 1!

Or not, just trying to figure out what's going on based on the available info!

I think typically rebates give you a month to complete the rebate after purchase. And determine eligibility by receipt of purchase So by that reasoning sometime in April is likely

If you've had any experience with Amazon.com, you'd know their "expected" dates (shipping, etc.) don't mean anything. I watched the site last year leading up to the launch of Motion and none of their many "expected" dates were even close.

Still Think It's June

Actually you have until 7/1/05 to postmark the rebate. So, based on your "1 month after purchase" theory, June 1 seems even more likely. :)

one company can replicate 920,000 a day.
a link here.
plenty of time, even if they start replication tomorrow.

thats 920,000 cd's a day, but only 500,000 dvd's a day.

i was thinking more along the lines of building up hype and anticipation. it seems like this would become more widespread (outside of rumor sites) after an announcement of a release date

Apologies to Klaus (sorry, I took your first post too personally), and thanks to Rodrod and ~loserman~ for clarifying the whole X.x.x.x.x thing.

Of course, this means that I'm now eagerly (moreso) awaiting the release date - if only to see what my local dealer is willing or able to do for a recent customer. (I bought my Mac mini (it's so quiet!) just over a week ago, so I'm cautiously optimistic :))

Cheers!

LOL. You bought a computer your dealer made maybe $25 bucks selling it to you. Fat chance on an accommodation.

guys this is all speculation.. rumors.. how can one say apple is hard pressing cds... we all were 100% tiger was going to be released on the 1st... it wasn't...now we are thinking they are burning cds of tiger..wow..lol... tiger is released when it is released... whos to say it won't be released in May? what if at nab.. they announce those apps right? does tiger hab to come out the next day just b/c of that? what if they say "ohh yea and they need tiger support.. shipping in may.. along with tiger..." what if..what if...... its purely CYNICAL speculation

I don't think *any* of us were "100%" about the 1st, this is a rumor site after all, and the April 1st rumor certainly wasn't the first rumor to fall through - or be set back (which is probably more likely the case).

I wanted to see the 1st happen, but I've been through enough rumor-fall-throughs to count on ANY rumor being 100%.

It's being pressed as we speak. However only on DVD. Tiger is not coming out on CD.

I don't expect one at all.
My guess has always been that we will see the dual core G4 from freescale.
It would outperform any of the current G5's for most applications and do the job for less power than what the current G4 uses now.

The main reason it is such a nice chip is it uses on die memory controllers and it doubles the cache size of both cores. The altivec engine in the G4 is also better than the implementation thats in the G5 too.

A single 2.5 GHZ G5 might be able to keep up but it would be a true dog fight. Without testing I would probably give the edge to the new Freescale chip.

I would hope not. Apple is still selling iBooks with CD-ROM drives only.

I'd imagine it will be on DVD only at first. Remember iLife 05 and iWork? They were only on DVD, for a few a weeks.

?

All iBooks come with Combodrive (reads DVD writes to CD) or a Superdrive (read and writes DVD and CD), and have for years.

No they're not. The iBook comes with a Combo or Superdrive now. They haven't had a CDRW only version in a year.

Your post would be accurate if this were YEARS ago. ;) iBooks have been coming with Combo and Super Drives for years.

Edit: LOL bosrs1, we posted the same thing at the same time.
