imessage has been released and we have been experimenting with it all this morning on 3 verizon iPhone 4 and 2 AT&T iPhone 4
it's not officially released, it's a beta version for testing, so you're passing judgement on an unifinished product.....

doesn't apply to AT&T because you can use Data and the phone at the same time. We can't on Verizon
But has this been observed? I, again, just can't get behind criticizing something based on non-use. You sure that 5-minute timeout doesn't begin once the phone call ends? It just seems like a trivial thing regarding vPhones.
How can you not like something that has not been released?
That is the same thing almost of not liking carrots because you never tried them.
Just wait till it releases.
It has been observed and while it may be trivial to you It is NOT trivial to me. I recieve important text messages for work while on phone calls and we as a company decided to use Verizon because of all the issues we had with dropped calls on AT&T. Now we have fielded over 45 iPhones with Verizon and I think the imessage issue should be resolved.
Then go to your settings (Settings>Messages) and turn off iMessage. It's an optional feature, not a requirement.
Completely different. If someone tells you a product will act in a certain way, you don't have to try it yourself to know you won't like it. I don't have to drive a car that doesn't go in reverse to know I don't want to buy one.

Haha. Anyways, only the BETA is out. OP is judging based on a BETA. NOT the real thing.
Patience is key here.
Edit. OP should change thread to "Why I don't like iMessage BETA"
I don't like being the guy who says [/Thread] , but I kind of think I have to.

Actually you are mistaken, it has NOT been released. What you are using is a beta that is released to developers to test.
iMessage does check to see if both are iOS5 and will use iMessage first. I see this as a way to save the end users money and not use up their SMS allotment.
I could be wrong here, but on Verizon, if you're on a call doesn't it disable all data? Thus if I sent a message and it checks to see if you have iOS 5, wouldn't it get nothing in return since data is disabled? I'm sure since you have the phones you'll have more info on it.
But I was just wondering.
However since this is just the first Beta, and you're using it, I would suggest you go over to the developer side of Apple and fill out your bug report. I bet this would make things better for all Verizon users.
Isn't that the point of releasing a BETA? to find the fault and point it out? You are so hyper critical of anyone who points out an issue. THIS IS FIXABLE in the final release and I HOPE they do. If everyone was patient and not talking about issues they would release a POS Gold edition
I certainly hope you didn't install iOS5 on your WORK iphones since you have such important text messages come thru...![]()
It's BETA. Don't complain about it before you know exactly how it's going to be rolled out by Apple. We're 3 months away from this things coming to market. Don't complain ab it here, especially since it's a beta. Write Apple if you think it's going to be a problem.

We aren't talking about the points of releasing a BETA. You said you didn't like iMessage. What you don't like is the BETA of iMessage.
This, tested it with my mate, he disabled data, i put his name in and it stayed on SMS, few mins later he re-enabled data, i started a new message to him and it switched to iMessage
On your end, you would just turn iMessage off. Don't use it as it's pretty clearly not for you. With it "off" on your end, anyone with an iPhone that sends you a message will automatically send it as a "text" to you.It has been observed and while it may be trivial to you It is NOT trivial to me.
