Of course this must be expected when you are willing to pay for the iphone at 3x more expensive than others with similar or superior specs.

There's been a lot of negativity on these forums lately. Too many people bashing Apple, but still purchasing their products. If you REALLY want to show Apple, and 'Stick it to the man', then vote with your wallet. Stop purchasing their products. That is the only way they'll get the hint. Otherwise, shut up, sit down and enjoy your new iDevice.

Are you high? This is not even remotely close to "Mac" vs "Windows," albeit such a debate doesn't exist. Mac is a brand while Windows is an OS.

Regardless of the above, you're confused with functionality and UI.

I'd recommend that you refrain from posting.

It is exactly Mac vs Windows all over again In that Apple is derailing itself all over again. In the 90s Apple lost me because of overpriced junk they thought I wouldn't notice. Their previous product (original PowerBooks) was highest quality exceeding performance compared to everything else per dollar spent. Then scrap management came in and started counting beans and skimping on quality and they thought I'd buy because of reputation. I didn't come back until MacBook Air again blew everything away in terms of quality and performance per dollar, but that was like 15 years later. Then they had another hit with the 5s, still highest quality and performance per dollar. They're really blowing it this year, instead of spending money on materials and software engineers and hardware engineers to get down and dirty and build in the highest quality from assembly language optimization and alloy composition they blew billions on a rapper. Then blew us all off saying only nine phones are bent and there's no issue? 1 gig of ram in a thousand dollar phone? Apple has lost me once again. Maybe there will be another Jobs someday to straighten out the company again. Or maybe they'll crash for good this time who knows I can't predict the future.

I already have quit giving them my money. I was ready to buy iPhone6 on announcement day. I was appalled at what junk they put out. I'm still stunned at what happened. Bendy 1gig phones and a rapper with a Hollywood slime weasel. And social consciousness. Barfo.

Maybe there is a parallel to Windows vs Mac OS. Windows 'Metro' looked refreshing and aesthetically pleasing but Mac OS remained the better experience package overall.

Anyway, I was hoping we could have more contributions to the last part of the question:

Where does iOS go from here?

What can it do to keep looking pleasant, fun and superior to the competition?

Will it change at all visually? Eg how much has OSX changed visually to the way it has become now in Yosemite?

I'm using lollipop on my 2014 Moto X. I can tell you the speed and fluidity of getting things done is much better than on my other phone. The iPhone 6 Plus. I personally feel that it looks better too.

On the other hand because I love lollipop so much I went out and bought a nexus 9 which I thought could replaced my iPad Air 2. Not a chance in hell. The iPad air 2 blows it away in performance and I like the look and feel of the iPad better.

Moral of the story both OS's are great. Everybody has their own opinions. But the hardware definitely makes a difference.

I know a few Android fans and even they admit for them it's Android for phones and Apple for Tablets.

Personally I am happy with both OS's overall. But ya I guess I fall in that camp too. Plus I like to be different. I live in southern California and every other person in the state it seems has an iPhone. I was at apple on launch day for the iPad 2 with my leather backed moto x and everyone kept asking me which Samsung phone I had. I didn't even try to correct them.

Full disclosure... I've been a long time Android purist starting with the old moto droid phones and going pure nexus. Running L on my N5 now, I must admit is quite smooth and pleasing. The N6 looks to be the real deal based on what is out there now on it. Still we will have to wait a bit longer for true reviews.

With that said I am seriously considering iPhone 6 for the following reasons...

- The notion of going to a device that takes zero effort / thought to use. Android has always been a source of tinkering whether it is custom ROMs, kernels and other tweaks. This is a benefit for many and maybe a conscious choice but the thought of being a "dumb" user is very appealing. The real benefit for me here is getting time and productivity back... hopefully.

- I have never owned an iPhone and now that the screen size larger, the time is right. Just that I have never owned an apple phone is almost enough to make the jump by itself. Let's see what all the fuss is about on the other side.

- I've always been impressed with apple design and hardware. I have a mbp and its great. The iPhone 6 like others before is a work of art which is appealing.

On the down side, what makes me nervous...

- I've become accustomed to a lot of android features and am heavily invested in the google ecosystem. Moving to apples walled garden may be too restrictive. I despise iTunes for example more than just about any sw on the planet.

- Bendgate and general hw issues. Not thrilled with some of the stuff floating around. This is apples first gen of a new form factor so does that mean more problems til they release the next gen?

Ultimately its between the iPhone 6 and Nexus 6, still on the fence about this whole thing but am leaning toward iPhone.

At least you can FINALY uninstall carrier bloatware with Lollipop.

And this is a godsend, though I wouldn't be surprised if the phone companies botch up Android OS as they always have. It's just not worth the time and headache investing in Android OS.

I think iPhones are more timeless. Apple keeps their older phones updated on the latest software and the basic iPhone design doesn't change. Non-Nexus devices age horribly. If you have a Galaxy device, you wont be able to recognize Lollipop (when/if it finally comes to your device). Plus all the TouchWiz quirks get old fast.

Nexus devices are a different story. You'll get support direct from Google and the phones typically have a great design. The Nexus 6 will probably be my next phone.

Not to mention my two year old iPhone 5 is still kicking it. I mean I upgraded to the plus, order got cancelled, and now I'm thinking I'll keep it another year. Just that good.

I cannot understand those who are saying Apple are losing their way with iOS/iPhone. My iPhone 6 is the first and only iPhone I have ever owned and it's amazing. I was with Android beforehand. I can say hands down the experience with the iPhone is far superior. Performance has been flawless, the UI is gorgeous (imo) and everything just works for the most part. My experience with apps has been superior on iOS also and most of them are NOT identical.

Remember, different people have different tastes. If you're no longer interested in the iPhone then go Android. I switched the other way and don't regret my choice in the slightest.

I've stuck with my iPhone 5 as well. Now that apple has bumped prices for the unlocked phones I'm less inclined to buy one. I could easily get another year out of this model if I had to. I have been aching for a larger screen device but the iPhone 5 still feels like a good device.

Apple has been losing their touch with the iPhone since the original iPhone if you let them tell it. Just the same "doomed" garbage that gets spewed every year. With the iPhone 6/6 Plus selling more than any iPhone ever, so much that the things can barely be found in stock, Apple is far from "doomed", "losing their touch" or "in trouble".

What's even better, is when you bring up the fact that Apple is selling more iPhones every quarter, they usually come back with the "iSheep" or "more iDiots" response.

They aren't selling more iPhone's quarter of quarter. Q2 and Q3 have historically shown to sell far fewer iPhone's than Q1. YoY quarterly sales have always increased even if by just a minimal %. Maybe this is what you meant?

I'm heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem; Mac, iPhone and iPad with hundreds invested in purchased apps.

So it's in my interests to make sure that Apple is always making the best stuff. It still is making the best stuff as an overall ecosystem, but seeing Android Lollipop look so lovely, I have to wonder where does iOS go from here to keep it on top in terms of aesthetics and design?

Now, I know that aesthetics and design are subjective and this is my preference that Android Lollipop looks gorgeous and surpasses iOS 8. Here's what I've just been reading: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2014/11/i-cant-believe-how-great-android-lollipop-is-so-far/

When Android was first released, it looked terribly clunky like it was smashed together by an amateur PCS developer onto a tiny touch screen. iOS was far far superior.

Today, I feel like Android 5 just about edges out over iOS in terms of aesthetics.

That matters to me because I use iOS not because of specs but because I *enjoy* using it. The pleasant aesthetics is a big part of that.

Will Android 5.0 prove to also be just as if not more pleasurable in the long run? How can iOS adapt to Android's design competition to stay on top as the superior pleasurable experience?

Of course, at the end of the day, I still believe Apple's overall scheme of things is better because it had a far more pleasurable experience. But with Android 5.0 looking as good and with Apple lapses in Cloud and sync and other software dips, what do you think Apple will do to stay on top?

Edit: when I say *looking so good* I do largely mean just that, that Android 5.0 looks prettier and more pleasurable than iOS at this stage.

How exactly would you enjoy the "prettiness" of Lollipop when companies like Samsung install their garbage on top of Android and mangle the look/feel?

No, its not caught up.

And Ill give you an example.

Click on 4K resolution, full screen it, and go to the 11:00 mark where the guy is trying to browse the web. He tries to not make it obvious cuz he is super biased, but look at the way the pinch zoom responds on iOS and look at the hesitation on Android. Then he has trouble clicking the link.

Its the same concept with Mac trackpads vs Windows trackpads.

They just don't look and act as smooth, not as rich.

YouTube: video

And thats assuming its the beginning of your OS lifecycle. In 6 months who knows how it will behave after you fill it up and the file system gets slow.

Bingo. You win and the thread is over. It's the one iOS feature that matters the least to android users and the most to Apple users. We tend to call this user experience smooth, fluid or sometimes even magical. :D

You said so much crap that it's not even worth trying to educate you since I would have to go through every SINGLE sentence you wrote.

Maybe I'm in the minority but as a long-time Apple user and iPhone owner since the first-gen, and an Android user for 3+ years, I see both iOS and Android as mature and feature-rich now.

Granted, they have a lot of similarities as well as some differences, which is a good thing. But, as someone who uses both on a daily basis, I could honestly not use either and still be more than happy with the other.

I don't see why one has to 'lose' in anyone's eyes.

For what it's worth, this year I chose the Note 4 over the 6+. TouchWiz is now smooth and responsive - a world away from what I experienced on the Note 2. This bodes well for Lollipop (which I'm looking for forward to comparing on a OnePlus One vs the TouchWiz variant. And I really do need a Stylus rather than a finger for Chinese language study writing.

I also think iOS can make better use of the phablet screen size, and would love to be able to position icons anywhere freely (the bottom three rows only work well on large devices).

These are small differences. Next year, it'll probably be the 7+ over the Note 5.

When it comes to tablets, though, Apple are significantly ahead in build quality and quality and availability of apps, particularly Education. And that's why I'd only sell my rMini for an Air or next year's Pro.

Right on. I wanted a better camera, not so much a bigger screen.

Like others have said, the Google made apps are really nice, but in most cases 3rd party ones are near as nice.

Quick comparison needed; I read most of the comments and we had good, purist and loyalist on both ends.

For guys who have enjoyed both Newer iPhones and Andriod L on either Nexus 5 or Moto 2014, has any one compared the day to day camera shots between two Phones/OSes
and how about battery life ? Is there any significant os that's better than the other when it comes to battery life ?

thanks in advance for the tip..

I was referring to pure Android. That's what the linked article was looking at.

You're correct that other skins often do make it worse.

Aesthetics over funcionality? - fuctionality and security wins any day

I'd like to see optional iOS updates:

1. Standard iOS update (as we know it)

2. Core iOS update (core OS with no extraneous apps)
leaving the end-user to decide what app to drive the hardware, removing the need for jailbreak

Note: All new phones would ship with Standard iOS.
Disclaimer on Core updates before update etc..

With Android 5.0 Lollipop looking so good, where does iOS go from here?

What can iOS change to make it *look* even better than it is to stay competitive? How will it end up improving aesthetically in the next two iOS cycles for example?

Likely the changes will be subtle.

I`ve just moved to Apple from Android since it's inception. iOS is a better user experience by far. No more "this app has stopped working". If you do go Android do not go Samsung.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of Pure Android but man the only AOSP handset out there is the Nexus. It's sad.

Motorola's Moto X/G is basically the same. It only includes a few Motorola specific apps.
