I like that idea, actually. But a question: so if a seer scans an alpha werewolf, would he then see that "the person has the ability to kill, as well as the ability to infect a person"? Wouldn't that make it too obvious that the person is, indeed, an alpha werewolf?

yes, in this context both the alpha and the kamikaze would be correctly identified by the seer (while the mystic would only see them as 'evil'). but only for the ability to 'infect' or kill at lynching. I wouldn't include as a 'special' ability the wolf ability to kill, it is the normal condition of being a wolf (or a a vamp), so in this version the normal wolf and normal vamp wouldn't be seen by the seer as 'specials'.

do you want to make things even more complex for the seer? add 'the madman' a villager who has the same ability of the kamikaze wolf (the possibility to take one down with him when being lynched) only he is supposedly good. crazy, but good :D

I also like chrmjenkins variant

Why don’t we have the crazy uncle, who is always drunk and making a fool out of himself at family get togethers? He would know who the seer and hunter are, and at inopportune moments would reveal their identity to the WW’s.

We could also have the bag lady, who goes around mumbling to herself and collecting crap we don’t want, like jav’s WW meter that never works right. At least that would keep him from steering the villagers in the wrong direction. :D

Warewolf meter is broken because it got dropped the first week and never realized it.

Ravenvii, would the priest be able to ask a question like "Is there a werewolf in the first half of the player roster"?

Haha, that's a clever question, and yes.

Moreover, you could potentially list a specific set of players with that question. It would be beneficial to make it a third of players though, not a half. Since there are 2/3/4 wolves at any given time, the probability there's 1 in both halves you randomly create is very high (and hence, waste your question). Choosing 1/3 changes that probability and helps you whittle it down more practically. Specifically, you're looking for no answers when you ask that question. If you get a yes, it doesn't mean there aren't wolves in the other half. By getting a no, you can definitively rule out a group. Couple this with a yes/no as to whether the infection has occurred yet, and the priest may be a little too powerful.

hey, how do you know my uncle? :D

he's a great guy, really.
Just keep him away from the absinthe...

methinks someone has been playing "guess who" a lot as a kid.....

Actually, nah, it can't be coupled together - the question ability is only good once.

So the priest wouldn't be infectable until after the prayer is finished? (I thought I remember reading this somewhere in this thread but I want to be sure.)

I don't like the idea of changing the original Seer role. A Seer junior/Mystic is a really great addition though. Someone that can "see" that a player is evil or in the case of a goth-type player, has the potential to be.

I still think there should be an Undertaker.

The spy (more like wire-tapper or eavesdropper) role might work well for only seeing the actions but not where they are going or coming from. "an infection took place" "a scan" etc.
I wonder if this role could be privy to whether someone in the Brotherhood has been infected but not who. ("Evil has infiltrated the brotherhood") If the spy chooses to release that information the members of the brotherhood would at least have a heads up to keep alert and skeptical.
Side note: I wonder if to keep it gender neutral brotherhood could be called something like Village Council or the previous name Neighborhood Watch.

One more idea - what if instead of (or even in addition to) a baddie being able to leach power for a day/night what if a villager could? Maybe midway through the game allow one random villager one Seer scan or Undertaker scan for one night. Or the ability to stand alongside the hunters and protect someone of their choosing. Probably better for this villager not to be able to insta-kill or carry out a baddie role but a scan or protection might be cool.

More roles make it more interesting. Being a simple villager is pretty dull and with evil getting more evil a few extra roles helps balance that out, of course.

Maybe one of the werewolves could gain seer ability. It would add a whole new psychology to the game. If someone comes out as the seer, they not only have to worry about infection, but also the suspicion of the village.
Also, if the wolves get both seers, it would be terrible for the village. It would add a pressure for the good seer not to come out until the infection is used.
The innocent seer and the seer lite should be made known when the infection was used.

One more consideration: maybe instead of the scan, the innocent seer could ask ravenvii whom he should scan. Then ravenvii gives him the the name of one werewolf and x amount of innocent( or semi-innocent? villagers. I think 2 innocents is a good number.) maybe it wouldn't even be limited to werewolves. He could ask "Ravenvii, I'm looking for a vampire/undertaker/hunter, who should I scan?" Just to be clear, this would waste a night of scanning as to avoid making the seer to powerful.

I really think that the Vampires and Werewolves should work on the same side and be able to PM each other. It is far too hard for the Vampires to win this game.
Also, if one goth finds the Vampire, are you going to let the other goth know about it?

I've not forgotten you guys. I've been a bit busy recently. I plan to work on the rules, based on the discussion in this thread, shortly, then actually open up the sign-ups. The game itself hopefully should start at the beginning of next week.

iBookG4user: hey! It was fun whilst it lasted? :p :D I'm not gonna abandon this game - the new rules looks to be too awesome to not play by.

I'm actually selfishly glad there has been a break. e was giving me all kinds of crap for my werewolfing geekery and the game hiatus has kept the peace while I've not been tempted to play/read along. :D

P.S. Please don't give the baddies Seer-like power leaching abilities. It will be a slaughter for the villagers. As I said in post 88 a regular randomly selected villager or two might like having a seer scan for a night.

I was just about to invite this thread to have some of Blue's brains cookies. eg, thread = dead zombie :p

Zombies may actually be a good idea for the game. This idea would focus on giving "Plain Villagers" something to do throughout the game.
1. There would be an "alpha zombie" he has to do something to be activated (Guess a number correctly 1-5 seems like a nice thing). After that he would be activated.
2. Zombie infects one person per night. If he infects a werewolf/vampire/hunters the chain starts all the way over (or lose x amount of zombies).
3. After 2 are zombies, they can discuss whom to infect
4. Zombies act as a secret society, controlling a lot of votes.
5. Zombies win the game by having a majority of zombies in the village.
Zombies are not too powerful because they whole chain can start over very easily, and they won't know if the chain breaker was a good or bad guy, so revealing this chainbreaker could be disastrous for the village.
Maybe the alpha zombie can protect one person in his gang per night?

Rules are complete, and the game is open for sign-ups. Hoping for 20-25 players. I know some have signed up in the beginning of the thread, but since it's been a while I want you all to come and sign up again to make sure you're around for the game :)

Please read the OP - some substantial changes abound! (Super-quick Cliff's Notes: Timewarden + Judge + Information (except Hunter's identity being revealed in insta-kill narrative) + determent out. Spy + Secret Society (name change from Brotherhood for gender neutrality - good point, iBlue!) + modified Seer + Psychic + Priest + modified Vampire in, time limits: 12 hour night, 72 hour day).

Continue to feel free to comment on the rules - I'm open to (minor) changes.
