a couple of clarifications

If the seer scans a normal wolf (after infection) does he/she sees it as "no special ability' or as 'normal werewolf' ? same question regarding goths (post-activation) and the secret society. Or would the answer in all these cases be "the scanned character can communicate with his/her associate(s)"?
in other words, doeas the possibility of using PMs to communicate, without any additional 'power' constitute a 'special ability' or not?
this would also affect whose blood gives immunity to the vamp

It would be nice if the OP bolded or highlighted the rules changes in the OP.

What happened to the rule that if Don’t Panic tries to change the rules too much, he’s first to die in the game? :D

Seer scans normal wolf: "can PM", goth: (pre-activation): "ability to scan", (post-ability): "can PM". Secret Society: "can PM"

Of course, if the normal wolf is the last remaining wolf (and hence inheriting authority from the alpha and the kamikaze), then it will say "ability to kill" - same with the Goth post-activation.

Yes, every special will give the vampire immunity, including the secret society. Yes, this means the vampire has a high likelihood of being immune to any attack right up to his activation. That is the intention, to give the vampires a better chance at winning the game.

Just for you, -aggie-, the changes has been temporarily bolded in the OP :)

Holy crap about the vampire immunity and the spy seeing names as well. okey dokey though, count me in.

I want to say right now though that we're in the process of buying a home and I don't think I can put in loads of time chatting back and forth with long posts. Aside from being a bit tedious and time-consuming (often in the evenings here, which annoys e plenty), I'm too distracted to fully immerse and keep track of it all. I'll of course read along and I won't be a game dragger but if I seem less involved, this is why. Cookies will still be at the ready. ;)

i am sure you'll see to that ;)

ravenvii, thanks for the clarifications

a few questions regarding the priest: is the prayer declared by the priest at he start of recruiting or does he just starts recruiting and at 3 decides what to ask? if the recruitment is successful, is the priest bound to perform the ritual or can he decide to wait?
is the prayer answered publicly or just to the priest (it think it should be a private message to the priest, it's more priest-like)? when is the answer revealed (immediately, at night-fall, dawn)?
does the 3-days immunity start when the priest declares his/her identity? is it extended if a prayer fails?

Seer: Can scan any ALIVE player and find out what their abilities are (if any).

This was a change?

Psychic: Can scan any ALIVE player and find their alignment (good (all roles under The Good Guys) and evil (all roles under The Bad Guys).

They just get told they’re good or bad, correct, not what they are?

Priest: Can pray to the Gods for answers to any question. Requires 3 villagers to agree to participate in the ritual. This can only be done during the daytime. If ritual fails to complete by nightfall, it must be restarted the next day. Can ask the Gods any yes or no question. Any other question will result in the Priest's death. There can only be one successful prayer. This is all done in the open (not via PM). Has the protection of the Gods - cannot be attacked or infected. Will lose the protection after three days.

When does he have the protection of the Gods?

The Secret Society: Villagers who can PM each other. No other special powers. Starts with 3 villagers. Can optionally recruit 2 more. Recruitment is a instant ability and can only be done during the daytime. If a werewolf is recruited, or a member of the Society is infected, the werewolf will have an option to murder all the members of the Society in one night. This will take place of a normal nightly killing. If a vampire or goth is recruited, the entire Society will be murdered upon the vampires' activation. This is, of course, unless the werewolf or vampire is lynched first.

How do they recruit?

j) The game will begin at NIGHTTIME with actions by the GOOD GUYS only.

Meaning a night and then a day will go by before the WW’s have a chance to kill?

k) There will be a TIME LIMIT for Specials to send in their PMs. The time limit will be 12 hours after the posting of the lynching (NOT after the voting closes) on weekdays, and 24 hours if any of the 12 hours falls on a Saturday or Sunday. There is a 72-hour TIME LIMIT for the lynching vote. If time limit is reached, the person with the most votes will be lynched. In case of a tie, the person who reached the number of votes first, will be lynched.

The 12 hours here could be a problem for European players?

Why so long on the lynching vote? 72 hours??

I like now the new rules and roles. Also, I am for one that we move and keep the current rules for one game at least.

That said, I am in. Now, I pray to the Gods I am made a special... I haven't been one in 3 games already.

In. Sorry I haven't done another simple game. Been very busy. Hopefully soon.

The spy is interesting. Sounds like it's in his interest to squawk if the society is infiltrated and everyone doesn't die that night.

Rules are complete, and the game is open for sign-ups. Hoping for 20-25 players. I know some have signed up in the beginning of the thread, but since it's been a while I want you all to come and sign up again to make sure you're around for the game :)

Please read the OP - some substantial changes abound! (Super-quick Cliff's Notes: Timewarden + Judge + Information (except Hunter's identity being revealed in insta-kill narrative) + determent out. Spy + Secret Society (name change from Brotherhood for gender neutrality - good point, iBlue!) + modified Seer + Psychic + Priest + modified Vampire in, time limits: 12 hour night, 72 hour day).

Continue to feel free to comment on the rules - I'm open to (minor) changes.

The 12 hours limit for specials is pretty short. Players in different time zones/schedules may struggle with that when they have to communicate, especially with some new roles to contend with. Could it maybe be 24 hours with of course the hope of it moving as quickly as possible?

We could add 6 hours and make it an 18 hour limit which should suffice.

Do remember that you can send in the PMs before a lynching actually takes place.

Feel it's too short still? Let me know, I'll be happy to change it to 24 hours.

-aggie-'s questions:

This was a change?

----- Yes, previously the Seer can see the roles of the players. Now only their abilities will be revealed. A bit more ambiguous.

They just get told they’re good or bad, correct, not what they are?

----- Yep.

When does he have the protection of the Gods?

----- From the beginning of the game until the time of the lynching during Day Three.

How do they recruit?

----- They simply PM me and tell me they want to recruit [name].

Meaning a night and then a day will go by before the WW’s have a chance to kill?

----- Yep. Hopefully it'll lead to less random.org votes on day one. We'll see how that works.

Holy crap about the vampire immunity and the spy seeing names as well.

Not as well - they only get the names. No actions.

I won't reveal the identity of the priest, it's up to him, and up to the villagers to join the ritual. The priest decides what to ask first, and if three players approve of the question, they join up to complete the ritual. The priest will ask in the open, and I will answer in the open. The priest can decide to wait, however his immunity ends in three days, so if he wants to pull off a prayer successfully without being infected on the spot, he better do it by the third day. Once the priest begins the ritual, he is bound (if the ritual is successful) since the question will be answered as soon as the ritual is completed.

18 hours could be a good compromise. also 72 for the day might be too long. i'd go for 48. keep the game snappy.

edit re: priest
does the first 'no evil' night counts for the priest? that would limit his immunity to only two real nights.
why would the priest be infected once he asks the question?
when he does, he cannot change it and the answer is public, so from the second he starts the ritual (if this ends successfully, of course) he becomes to all effects a normal villager. he can be a valuable infectee, but nothing exceptional.

In that case, he CAN abort the ritual. What I meant was if the ritual was completed, he can't suddenly change his mind. But if two people joined, and he needs one more, he can simply abort it.

And yes, he's effectively invulnerable to evil-y things for two nights.

And I think 72 hours is a good spot. It gives three days. This game is the complex one, remember? In-depth discussion is encouraged.

For the night, 18 hours it is.

On the other hand, if the priest changes his mind, the villagers will know something's up and not only suspect him, but the person his question is about as well. Since it all must happen in the span of a day, there's very little chance any character revelations will come out that could justify his flip-flop. Also, since his question is passive (no harm comes to the question's target if there is one), it's difficult to persuade out of it for any reason other than waste. I personally still like the idea of a singling out a third and villagers and asking if there is a werewolf in the group.

As I've stated, it can be any yes/no question. The priest can ask, "Is chrmjenkins a wolf?" or "Does the name of the wolf start with a C?" or as you said, "Are there any evil players in the top 1/3 of the roster list?"

It can be any question at all. It is only if the question cannot be answered in a yes/no manner ("Who among the ritual participants likes to kill at night?") the priest dies.

So if the priest says "DUDES, I've got a better question! I abort the ritual!" there's nothing too suspicious about that. He can't change the question in the middle of a ritual, he has to re-start.

that's entirely up to the wording of the question
e.g. "Is any of chrmjenkins, don't panic, jav6454 or abijnk one of the bad guys"?
