If they release 1.5 in April and then 2.0 before Thanksgiving, this might work.

The only thing I’ve been holding out for is a front facing camera. I’m getting one for my mom. There are also a lot of people who haven’t even bought one yet. A camera and modest spec bump may be all they need to buy…and not to buy from a competitor. The intervening 6 months gives Apple the time to release what they really intended to. And this will be just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

To those who already have 1.0 and want 2.0, I’m sorry, but is a 12 month lifespan versus a 18 month one really all that tragic?

I also think that if the UI of Lion has a significantly different look and feel then Apple will change the aesthetic of the following hardware. The current brushed metal UI and hardware will be changed to what…marble and liquid metal? Perhaps iMacs will get the redesign first. Then next year’s MBPs will. And you know Steve, if he thinks it’s not ready then it’s not ready.

I'm starting to suspect that these two iPads released this year rumours are coming from a competitor! Could kill sales if people thought a newer, better version was coming in only six months.

The average consumer doesn’t read tech sites and will never know that another may be 6 months away. They'll just comapre all of the options currently available.

so far this macbook refresh was an epic fail for me. hopefully the full redesign in 2012 is good. :)

All you folks that think you'll wait until 2012 to buy a MBP... Keep in mind that this is probably the last "Steve Jobs" MBP... Future designs may not meet the same high standards that Steve would demand.

don't think so

apple milks things to the fullest. I really doubt that they would throw in a camera and spec up a little then in 5 months put out a new one. Even though it would make a killing if it were to be released in sept, i couldn't see it. Now if they turn around and make it the ipad pro, then they'll prob get away with it, or release the new unicorn the ipad mini.

Like hell apple will release two ipads in the same year. This report is fake. If you listen to this stuff, you would be stuck waiting for someone to say "No september ipad has released sorry". Waste of time. if you want an ipad buy the ipad2

For the sake of discussion . . .

Let's say there is an iPad 2 and iPad 3. The iPad 2 is released mid-March and achieves sales equilibrium in July-August. The iPad 3 is released mid/late-October.

Then there would be an iPad 1, an iPad 2 with same resolution and a couple of added features, and an iPad 3 which would be an iPad HD of sorts.

The reason this might actually happen is by watching the iPhone example. iPhone 3GS units are still being sold at retail to new customers (returns/refurbs?). The iPhone 4 is out and raging on two carriers, and the iPhone 5 is in the wings ready for summer release.

Rather than having "good, better, best", they have "older, old, and new".

To me the only real question is how many people will trade in an iPad1 for a 2 or 3 or if 2 and 3 will largely be to new users.

Protecting the landfills from unnecessary technology abandonment.

I don't think there is any logic, but that doesn't mean lots of people won't buy one just in case. Like me for example.

Could be simply avoided by apple just confirming they will stick to 1 per year or whatever, or give actual copy on what they are planning to do, like almost every other company ever. The secrecy to create frothing demand just takes the piss out of people basically

This article confirms my suspicions related to the MBP. This would be my first Mac, but I think I'm going to have to sit back and wait until the 2012 MBP refresh, which should be on cycle for a complete redesign.

When I had a PowerBook G4 I held on for a redesign. I was gutted when they brought out Mac with that awful keyboard (chicklet??) and no matt screen. I was gutted that I had waited rather than just buying when I wanted.

I strongly feel that, with Apple, one needs to decide that one needs a new Mac, hold out for the new model to be released and then just buy it.

If you read the rumours and wait for the next 'big thing' you'll never buy anything!

I would reserve judgement until you see what's announced. Waiting a year for an updated case design (and the obvious updated specs) seems rather crazy to me, unless there is specific feature you were really looking forward to that's not included.

Thanks a lot for this comment; my old Vaio is on its last legs, and after a lot of research this fall, I decided on a MacBook Pro (13") high-end. Because of this site, I knew to wait for the new model (thank you!), and finally got over my feeling that there will be something new AFTER that that would make me regret buying the 2011 model. Seeing this new rumor made me wonder if I should somehow try to wait longer, but your comment is making me take a deep breath and wait and see what tomorrow brings, and buy it if I like it.

(Also, coincidentally, a good friend said that if the inside has what I need and want, basically speaking, a new design shouldn't be a reason to wait a year, especially as I have a real need right now.)

ETA: John Easton, you posted as I was writing my reply - but that's exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you, too!

The mockup iPad 2 looks like it's a 10-year-old prototype of the current version.

My mum told me this, and she still uses a nokia from the Victorian age. I don't think you can underestimate the level of information people can pick up these days, especially if they have a product in mind. Your comment would have been fully accurate 10-15 years ago, but not now

Looks like the dual core A9 / dual GPU wont be making it for this version, they were on a toss last month, guess this doesnt bode well for those expecting this. On the upside, if this rumor is true, there's a good chance the update "later this year" will feature dual core, dual GPU and probably also double resolution.

What's with the hating on the rumored design. I for one absolutely love it, especially with the speakergrill found on the earlier mockup, similar to that of the G4 powerbooks on the edge of the curve (air-in).

I'm really hoping we'll see this powerbookesque design. I've always found the old PB/MBP design much more attractive then the present one, technological advances like unibody aside ofcourse.

The rumor mill on iPad 2 is crazy:
- First iPad-2 is coming in Spring
- Then iPad-2 in Spring and iPad-3 in Fall
- Then iPad-2 in Summer (delayed due to problems and last-minute changes)
- Then iPad-1.5 in Spring and iPad-2 in Fall

I almost can't keep up with all this and don't know what to believe. But at least the announcement on March 2nd will have Apple saying something on the subject, so that's a plus.

Personally, I think Apple should release a new iPad every 13-14 months until they get the iPad release schedule into the fall (pushing it later into the year with every subsequent release) and then going to every 12 months once they get it into the September time-frame for the holiday rush.

I'm also sure that this time next week MacRumors will flood with disappointed comments about the new iPad (possibly from myself as well). It is becoming harder and harder for Apple to please its fans because we set the bar pretty high for them. We all want to be amazed -- its like a sports fan no longer being satisfied with his team winning if they don't win by enough.

Either way, I am excited to see what they offer up for the next generation. Even if I don't buy the iPad-2 I want it to be jam-packed with as much as possible so when iPad-3 comes out and my wallet is prepared for the purchase I can then know Apple would be improving on something really awesome.

...our sources aren't sure whether Apple is going to release the iPad 1.5 now and call it the iPad 2...

This is such a dumb statement it's hard for me to take any of this remotely seriously... "iPad 2" is a name that belongs to Apple. If they decide to call a dog turd "iPad 2" then that's the iPad 2.

iPad 2/3

Even though it's not like Apple to release two new versions in the same year, if they did then it would sort of explain the Apple event invitation... "come see what 2011 will be the YEAR of"

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that these current stack of rumours are bogus?

Now i understand that the MD Port will now be called the "Thunderbolt" port or whatever other name Intel find hip at the time.
The part that i dont understand is say for example you have someone that is privy to that information from Intel. They know that the new Macbooks will have this said port on them. But they do not know what the new Macbooks will look like.

They then do their best photoshop effort on a current model and hey presto the Mac Rumour community is up in arms over the lack of a refresh, "its just a speed bump" blah blah blah.

All for page hits!

Who would do this i hear you ask.
Well lets see, DEll, HP, ASUS, Google or pretty much anyone that is in competition with Apple in some way and will have to wait 3 months to push out their Mac Clones ....oh sorry i mean PCs.

Oh and as for the idiots that cant read and keep bitching about the pics of the "iPad 2" in the story (i refuse to call that an Article) above. Do the words MOCK-UP mean anything at all to you?

mock·up also mock-up (mkp)

1. A usually full-sized scale model of a structure, used for demonstration, study, or testing.
2. A layout of printed matter.

Nothing states that it is real or true in ANY way.

I'd also just second people buying MacBooks when they want one. I got mine a few years ago when there were rumours of a total refresh within 6 months. Even if a regret comes quite soon, you'll only actuall care for about 37 seconds anyway

It's generally better to get a "mature" design than a fresh brand new design. The first batch of new designs are generally full of flaws and those only get worked out with the next minor refresh. The more difference there is between the new and the old version, the more problems there will probably be with it.

Like the Unibody MacBook Pros, they first came out in 2008, I bought one 3 days after their release, and now my graphics card has failed, my SuperDrive doesn't work, my battery is deformed, my trackpad won't click and my left fan got stuck... If I would have waited a few more months, I would have a much more stable machine... But I had no choice I had a bad computer at that time and I really needed a new one.

All you folks that think you'll wait until 2012 to buy a MBP... Keep in mind that this is probably the last "Steve Jobs" MBP... Future designs may not meet the same high standards that Steve would demand.

That's one of the dumbest things i've heard all day, and i've read through quite a bit
