Frankly, I think I'm a better candidate to be Chief Design Officer. I've designed a few posters and yard sale flyers in the past so you can say that I have an "eye for design." First order of business is removing the TrueDepth camera system. I'd would force the designers to hide it or just get rid of it. It's too ugly. I would bring back Touch ID and relocate it to the back of the device. Much better design according to my standards.
Trying to figure out if this post is sarcasm or not. If not, thank god you don't work for Apple.

Am I the only one who still likes the original iOS icons and skeuomorphism?

Hardly. It's just that those of us who miss the days of "it just works" and who recognize the current iOS to be the pitiful oversimplified hyper-minimalized mess where each iOS revision tries to Band-Aid and reinvent all they messed up in 2013 aren't raising as loud a voice as those did who marched with raised pitchforks & torches against green felt, wood grain, and stitched leather.

I know he’s talking about software here, but suddenly I’m wondering if Apple is going to finally drop the numbering scheme and release a new “iPhone X” every year, just like they released a new version of OS X every year (I know it used to be longer cycles).

Even OS X had naming conventions..wether It becomes iPhone X2,..,.. or X Mavericks on subsequent releases there will be have to be a way to distinguish between them for inventory and support reasons.

I actually used FaceID for 3 days, hated it, and returned the X for an 8+. FaceID is slower and doesnt work on side angles (e.g. lying in bed). Maybe FaceID v2 will catch up to TouchID, but for now TouchID is king.

Also doesn't work when it's ideal to unlock your phone on the sly, such as during a meeting or other occasion where raising your phone to your face is just not an option. I've said it time and time again, Apple/Ive now design for the laboratory & marketers, not for those of us who use their devices.

The notch hate makes me laugh. I like it and don't even notice it while using my X.

What do people mean when they say they "like" the notch? There is nothing to like or hate about it. The notch itself does not add anything to the experience. It does bring some oddities which Apple decided to embrace (videos/photos with notch). There are only two reason the notch was used in a first place:
  • make the phone as short as possible
  • create an illusion of a screen-only design
The latter is really pointless but the former has valid reasons for it. It comes with the trade-offs though namely shrunk status bar with less space for displaying useful information. I am surprised Apple decided to go this route. Going forward, there might be a need to add more hardware in the notch or remove some depending on how technology evolves. I am not sure it's worth it.

I don't know, I just like the look of it. I like how we have all that tech, but still have the screen stretch to the corners. I think it looks futuristic and it's a unique design choice. I mean, if they are able to put all the same tech under the screen and remove the notch, I am okay with that as my platform choice is about a lot more than just the phone design, but for right now I like it. I wouldn't want a chin or virtual bezel so this is the best option. I just find the hate a bit silly as you don't even see it or think about it after using the phone.

If you want to have meetings all day long, it sounds like this new campus layout is optimized for that business function. I wonder what iOS 12 features he is hinting about?

I hate the open office concept for actually tech work though. Open office just means I need to come in early or work late or come in during the weekends or work from home.

They can create separate offices at will.
People have no concept how spectacular this building is, all the details and materials used are world class.

Bunch of sniping, trite one liners tossed out so everyone feels tres cool.

I'm sorry, I couldn't get past the shot of Irvine standing like an absolute **** with his look-at-me-pose to even read the article.

Wonder how long it took boy wonder to come up with that "Wallpaper" cover.
Any ability he may have once had in design appears to be well and truly gone.
Time to put him out to pasture.

I just want the numbering to stop. Let’s leave it at iPhone X, and update the model every year. Much like your MacBook or your iPad.

Then they could give them code names like Mac OS X. Maybe they could work through the seven deadly sins to start. iPhone X - Lust, Envy, Pride, Greed, Gluttony, Wrath, and finally Sloth as it makes its way into the seventh year without a redesign.
