Apple's iPhone XS, XS Max and XR Won't Ship With Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

I've only had my Beats X dropout maybe 3 times since I got them back when the 7 Plus came out. Once and a while I may forget to charge them but they charge so quickly. I can usually charge them for about 5 minutes before heading out of work and they last my subway ride home.

Not being tethered to my phone makes it worth it for me.

Plus I can walk around at home on a call and leave my phone in the other room.
It's easier when you have only one device to pair them to. I have at least five: 2015 iMac, 2012 Mac Pro, 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air 2.

I experienced dropouts often on the MacBook Pro for some reason, maybe because it was running the Mojave beta. Haven't yet tried with the latest build.

I have never used the adapter to begin with. I use bluetooth headphones and audio connections in my vehicle. Apple is not being greedy. They know a large number of people don't use the adapter and end up throwing them away or they get lost. It is being environmentally responsible by reducing plastic. The pice for the adapter is well below any of their other accessories. More and more phone manufacturers are doing this now. We did it to ourselves by wanting thinner phones and more battery life. Realestate on the phone is extremely limited....you have to give up something to get something. I would take stereo speakers on my phone any day like they have then have a silly outdated jack.

The headphone jack adapter is one thing, but it’s even more crazy that they didn’t include a USB-C to Lightning cable and a fast-charger.
They do make it, but sell it separately. The difference in charging time is not that great, I think - about 20%.

This phone has excess (XS) all over it, and yet a standard feature on every other phone is a bridge too far.

That said, the Apple dongles don’t strike me as very durable.

Point is not valid. Beats will pair automatically to all of your apple devices by default.

On their way to a 2 trillion dollar company!

De-contenting is a great way to increase profit without people noticing much. Even if it costs Apple only $1-2 to put that adapter in each box by removing it they could save millions. Along with the new higher starting price of the appropriately named "Max" (max profit) Apple is going to make billions off of people and everyone will keep buying.

Did you notice how Shiller now marketed the lack of the headphone jack not as courage but instead focusing on the amazing "true stereo" sound...oh boy.

I'd say this is no big deal except that it's the number one sold Apple accessory at Best Buy (I think mac rumors even did an article in that). So clearly people still use/want them. If it was just another accessory people weren't using, sure, get rid of it. An alternative would also be to offer a one time "freebie" for those who request it. Ah wel. Is what it is.

I actually use mine as I keep it with my Bose QC20's which have the 3.5 for when I travel. They are still some of the best noise cancelling/comfortable in ear phones I own. I have Airpod's for everyday but most planes I fly don't support Bluetooth for watching entertainment.

What happened to the $900 price and the 18 watt USB-C rapid phone charger that has been touted for months? Guess Tim thought that might affect his annual bonus and he nixed it. That's just sad to overprice the phone in relationship to phones like the Galaxy with fewer goodies for the money

My Samsung GS8 and GS9 each came with USB C to USB micro, USB C to A and a faster than iPhone 10W charger.

I don't carry the HP dongle for the iPhone 7. I just use the headphone jack on the GS9.

The degree to which Apple are out of bounds with the dongles and restricted features makes me sick to my stomach.

Samsung is gonna kill  with their foldable phone in 2 months i can feel it...

Apple cant innovate anymore :(

I listen to music at home by plugging my phone into nice Audioengine speakers. If I get a new phone without the headphone jack are the speakers useless with it? Or is there some kind of adapter to make non-bluetooth speakers bluetooth compatible?

An iPhone is not a good listening device either way, but I use my iPhone SE as a backup when my iPod Nano goes out of power and surely I won't carry around an adapter just for that. Usually only attach earbuds to the iPhone when having a long talk (typically at work). Also Apple doesn't produce any good hearing devices anyway (for music). There are other solutions however, but believe my old equipment are superior to any bluetooth or lightening devices yet out there, so iPod Nano for me. I buy a new iPhone any day they have a new one lighter than 150 grams, no bigger than iPhone SE, no slippery rounded edges, and a better camera, with an old headphone jak, but until then cannot see why one should spend money for mostly useless features added.

I've used a cheap bluetooth receiver from DealXtreme to turn a set of radio frequency headphones into Bluetooth so you could use a similar device for that. It's basically a small box with a battery that you could hook up using the 3.5mm connection to your speakers and then connect a USB charger to the side to keep it going. The drawback of the unit is severe latency so if you use it to play audio while watching a video on your phone then it won't work well. There are better Bluetooth receivers probably on the market at a higher cost.

Alternatively you can just buy a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter from Apple.

The problem with getting rid of the USB-A end is that it is the standard for charging and connecting that end. Cars (including CarPlay equipped cars, hotels, airports, airplanes etc have the USB-A end for plugging in. So I agree with keeping that end at the moment. I think the only port on a notebook being USB-C is currently a mistake but that isn't going away.
As for those complaining about Apple making a profit - that is what the US and capitalism means. No socialist company has ever survived. Chances are that if you have a retirement plan it has some investment in Apple and as it gets bigger and more profitable the better your retirement plan will do.

Here come the inane comments from people using 1950s technology.
And more inane comments who can think of no one buy themselves.

Please enlighten us as to how you suffered when there was a 3.5mm plug in the iPhone. We want to hear the tails of heartbreak and woe.
