I am sure I am not alone in this; but, who cares about the camera at this point. It started taking amazing pictures a few releases ago. This is all they got?
I agree. I take a few pics here and there, but anyone super serious is going to have a DSLR or what have you. This is just a marketing stunt because they're not ready for a radical redesign (folding, etc.). Not everyone lives in California and takes selfies 24/7.

Wait
That wouldn’t work for providing more depth in multiple directions, that’s why the triple lens camera will be oriented that way from past renders, not to mention, it will also make more practical sense for VR rendering. The dual wouldn’t probably be able to accomplish the same tasks aligned vertically.

Can you explain this more?

My take is that the depth is measured in the axis perpendicular to the phone thus it is independent of the orientation of the camera.

Furthermore depth can be measured by a single camera too. It's just harder. See pixel implementation.

As I was mentioning to that member, if you use the camera orientation that the iPhone XS offers, it doesn’t/can’t provide a good depth, which is why it needs an X-axis cross pattern for a greater depth for VR rendering, which I suspect will be one of the things Apple will discuss for the tri-lens camera in the fall. As far as pixel implementation, I’m not familiar with that.

P30 Pro already has a TOF-sensor, located in a triangular shape, so despite looking like a strip, it provides depth measurements. Where I live, it's cheaper than the current XR.

I don’t have experience with the P 30 Pro, but my point being, if the cameras are off-axis to each other, it provides a greater/deeper depth versus actually using a vertical directional orientation.

Even the cheapest android phones have gotten rid of those ridiculous side bezels. This phone looks cartoonish and dated.

I generally don’t think consumers pay attention to details to the likes of the XR bezels (Which shouldn’t even be compared to the older generation smart phones either.). I can understand the complaint being that displays have much eliminated that today, but for the majority, it doesn’t really seem to be that much of an Issue, especially given what the XR is offering.

Lolwut?

1st opinions of the 3a said the screen edges were a bit “jarring”, compared to the XR clean edge blending.

I haven’t seen all of the cheapest Android phones obviously... but, my friend did recently get the LG Stylo 4- the screen doesn’t look better than my XR. The XR absolutely did not look dated nor cartoonish next to it
You can almost buy 2 3a for one XR. A "cheap" Android phone is quite different from the "cheap" iPhone.

The iPhone XR competitors are near flagship devices.

Apple is losing their world-renowned design acumen.

But....it’s just a render. And I say that because, how many renders do we see on an annual basis from ‘Fan-made art’ that others generate where it never generally looks like the iPhone? I’d say we see that quite a bit, some of them have some accuracies behind them, but for the majority, it seems rather early to place any emphasis on what this phone really look like.

I’d say this render is not what the iPhone XR will resemble fall 2019.

Why such a large bump? Why does the flash need to be in the bump? Why can’t it be like the camera on my iPhone 8 where the bump is only the size of the two lenses and the flash is outside the bump?

I understand that there needs to be a bigger bump for three lenses but there’s no reason for this silly “square” with only two lenses.

They just can't help but find ways to make it ugly. It's like Google regressing from the perfect Pixel 2 XL to the abomination of a design that is 3 XL.

Increase the thickness by a fraction of a millimeter and the bump goes away. I hope this render is way off from the actual design. Ugh!

We'll see. Oftentimes the renders based on rumors and supply chain reports, especially only a few months before release as we are coming into that window, tend to be fairly accurate. The iPhone X design renders had nailed down the vertical pill shaped camera bump. The round rect camera bump has been rumored for a while for the new X design. Not sure why they just wouldn't use the pill shaped bump for the XR with only two cameras except that it might give the impression that it's an XS or X and Apple doesn't want that on their cheap model. But then the bigger cutout could make it look like an X as well if you don't look closely for the third camera. Hopefully Apple's implementation is a bit more refined. But in general I think the round rect is ungainly. If I decide to get one, which I usually do every year but am undecided for the first time in ages, I would definitely go with the black to minimize the appearance. I also worry about the cameras getting banged up since they will be less protected with such a large opening.

Cool story.

But the comment was “even the cheapest android phones have gotten rid of those ridiculous side bezels”...

So..... weird sidestepping aside; we can agree that comment is utter bs, right?

Please, Apple. Just make sure it can sit flat on a flat surface and not wobble around when I tap on it. Please?

I would understand that previous comment as a not to take literally argument just like I did when you compared a 200 USD device to the XR.

Yeah, but if it pleases you that the cheapest of all Android devices (not that I would bother to know all of them) can't beat the XR on one feature be happy.

I am most certainly at a minority here, but these phones are now ludicrous-large (and heavy).

This XR clocks at 6-in x 3-in versus 4 3/4-in x 2-in clocked by my SE (only a 52% area).

I just have no clue what pants you guys (and gals) wear, but these mega-sizes are not "mobile".

[Again, i know this is not going to be a popular stance, but Apple is stupid to have abandoned the best looking and most ergonomic form-factor they ever made.]

Just my view.

Unless they want to "embrace the bump" just like they did for the notch.

I think they should fully embrace the bump, such that the bump takes over the entire back of the phone. But wait, doesn't that mean that there's no longer a bump at all, and the entire phone has just become 0.7mm thicker?

Bingo!
