I've been super-happy with the Flip 4 so far. It's great in the pocket.. any pocket! Does everything I need while remaining unobtrusive. I still have a 13 Pro Max that I use for work when needed, but I'm holding out for something more than an incremental upgrade... hopefully USB-C next year and the ability to organize apps on the home screens.

You are right... most of us commenting have never owned one and to tell you the truth, I don't plan on owning one. I have seen enough in the wild, whether version one or... they haven't held up, antidotal of course, but it still doesn't change my mind. I don't like their software, and I don't like them as a whole. So no, I have not owned one and don't plan on owning one.
Yes like you the bottom line is I do not like Samsung droid interfaces. Try as I may I am either too much a apple nerd or my brain hardwiring makes better sense of the iOS interface than droid interface in Samsung implementation. And finally I have a total apple ecosystem in house (macs, Apple TV, iPads, my wife has iphone, almost all kids have iphones except one daughter LOL). Apple just works best for where my home ended up. So fold or not is really not important to me.

From an ad perspective, it's solid; entertaining, fun, held my attention the whole time. Nice work to the agency behind the spot. Even so, it's not convincing me, on any level, to remotely consider that device. But someone entrenched in Apple's ecosystem is not the target of such a campaign. Said another way, it would take a whole lot more than a folding phone to see me leaving the ecosystem I've been building and navigating and enjoying for 30+ years.

I'm glad there are alternatives to Apple. Options are important. Pick whatever works best for you and enjoy the ride.

Not really. It just continues the trend of Apple living rent free in Samsung's head. They just can't stop mentioning them. Really shows which company is way ahead. Hint, it isn't Samsung.

Edit: Because Samsung fans are filling up my notifications telling me Apple isn't mentioned here. Replace "mentioning" with "referring". There you go. Because it is 100% clear who Samsung is referring to here, Apple and the iPhone.
Yes, really.

This isn't a safe space or an echo chamber for Apple users. It's a technology website for people to talk about technology.
It is an Apple website, not a generic tech website. It would seem odd for someone who dislikes Apple to frequent it unless they are jealous of Apple's products and want to try and rationalize their purchase of an inferior product I guess.

I'll be honest, the folding looks good in the five seconds they choose to demo it in this two-minute ad.

Congrats to Samsung. They actually made something unique and cool. But I have a feeling there are serious durability and longevity issues with those flip screen devices. Maybe I'm wrong, but I prefer devices that don't require constant calls to tech support, warranty repairs, or trips to the service department over the years. If you upgrade your phone every year, then I think one of these devices would be great (if you can deal with Android). But I tend to try and squeeze out as much value from my phone purchase as possible, and I have doubts these flip phones can take the 4 years of drops, bangs and falls that seem to happen with my phone. I have stairs leading up to my house, then stairs down to my garage, and I've dropped my iPhone 12 Pro down them multiple times over the past two years, lol. Every time, I think it's over. I've watched it bounce and flip and tumble down to the floor with a minimal silicone case on it. But it keeps chugging. No repairs yet. I doubt a flip phone could handle the sort of accidental abuse I put my phone through.

Why the desperation? Geez, they already corner the market in developing countries with their A and S series. They just want more, more, more. Let Apple be Apple. Don’t try coercing anybody into buying your phones. It’s an ecosystem, we like it and it works.

I reckon there are still things Samsung could learn from Apple about software design especially. If you want your devices to not be cheap, your software has to be good.

Seems like you're living up to your username. I won't feed the troll anymore.

If you want a foldable phone, get a foldable phone. I personally wouldn't get any phone from Samsung, but that's mostly because I find their software annoying and don't care for the aesthetics. But other people do, so good for them 👍
Yeah beyond that you have google listen in on everything!

I guess it's in the middle and bigger.

Everyone I know that's moved to a Fold loves it. A lady in my office even utterly hated her iPhone and moved to a new Fold 4 last week. Shes not even a techy person AT ALL. I even know a few people that carry a Gen 1 Surface folding phone (forget the name) as an e-reader/multi tasker. Samsung/Google are working pretty close to make sure that the foldables are making use of a more Tablet based UI so that its a good experience. Its great for using a messaging app while also browsing the web or watching a video, or doing an email while looking at something you are referencing on a 2nd screen. Masically, great at multi tasking when you need it. Not everyone wants to carry both a phone and tablet at all times as separate devices.

A feature YOU dont use /= gimmick. If that was the case ALL phone cameras would be just a gimmick as I personally have 0 use for them. Specially selfie cameras. I mean headphones jacks are just gimmicks right? I sure never use one. Same with Spatial Audio.

People here acting like its a 'gimmick' when its been rumored Apple is working on a foldable for a while now. Im sure it wont be a 'gimmick' once Apple drops one.
Thats probably true, but then it will fold and do all the things the android phones don't do.
Which is talk to all of my Apple devices, airdrop, etc
and not have android/google listening on everything.
When Apple does it, it will be better and will work with all of our other Apple devices.
But I still think the fold is cool, just not for me.

Actually, this doesn't specifically target Apple at all. Even the phone at the end isn't an iPhone. I think you just felt specifically targeted.
This other ad mentioned in the article does mention Apple.
