Why would you need four different versions of the Apple Watch?

Maybe the person is far better at buying new watches than at selling the old ones? My junk drawers testify to my own struggles with this! :)

Alternately a developer may well want to be able to field test an app on different hardware versions.

Personally I hope this fixes the Podcast app deleting podcasts when I play them for only a minute or so on my phone.
You don’t know how happy I am (even though the bug really angers me) to hear I wasn’t the only one with this problem. It’s a real pain to go walk the dog and see that any downloaded podcasts I had have been deleted.

It's true I have had developers contact me to be a external tester with the devices. The selling thing is SO true I'm a creature of the 60's / 70's that used to sell Apple I / Apple II's and is fascinated with what can be done with such a tiny device.

my Series 1 is in a armored case and is my rough rider. my Series 4 LTE is my main battle tank and is with me on my Fat Tire trips into the river trails at 4:15 am ducking bobcats, skunks and other night creatures. my Series 2 is my big gorgeous SSSB beauty with its matching shiny SB bracelet. My Series 3 LTE is my backup to my Series 4 LTE.

Is this one of the good updates, or one of the updates that bricks the device? Asking for a friend.

Let your friend be the guinea pig tester.

I’ve adopted the stance of waiting a few days before updating any of my devices. Let others be the early public release testers so I can get their feedback before deciding to update myself.

Apple’s agile development adoption must have developers performing their own testing as opposed to having a dedicated team of QA testers performing more thorough work. Whatever it is, something is clearly wrong in Apple’s software releases. The difference between iOS 12 and 13 (although development methods should have been similar) is night and day.

If you want to know PAIN I have a Series 0 SS that has 114 apps on it and when I paired it with my new iPhone it took 14 hours to complete! AHHHHHH

I fell in love with the fitness features of Apple Watch and when they first came out the battery life was SO bad after my normal intense 3 hour workouts would drain the battery so I needed 2 in 2015 to make it a day! OOOO

I do not like a situation where release of new headphones also requires release of new version of OS (actually new versions of different OSes). As the number of devices (and types of devices) grows, this will lead to a mess, especially considering the quality of OS releases lately. Just too much software to keep in sync (and it shows)

Apple has also released watchOS 5.3.3 with security improvements for Apple Watch models not updated to watchOS 6. watchOS 6 requires a newer iPhone that can run iOS 13, so Apple Watch owners who do not have a compatible iPhone must continue to use watchOS 5.

  • Apple Watch S0 will be forever watchOS 4.x as normal.
  • Apple Watches S1-S5 are compatible with watchOS 6.1.
  • Apple released watchOS 5.3.3 for S1-S5 models that don't get watchOS 6.x.
  • Only iOS 13 compatible iPhones can download watchOS 6.x.
If you have an iOS 12 iPhone, you may have watchOS 5.3.3, regardless of how new your watch is. If your iPhone is new enough for iOS 13 and you have a non-S0 watch, you must upgrade your software (or hardware if applicable) to run the new watch software. Well done, Apple. Well done.

Homebrick and watch brick?
I am waiting till I update my wife’s watch.

i trust Apple no more...

So you’re going to brick your wife’s Watch instead of yours??

nobody yet but after yesterday's HomePod fiasco I am having reserves to be honest so I will wait 5-6 hours and if no reports kick in then I will update both my series 4 and my wife's series 3 :)

Ok... glad that was cleared up. Brick yours first though 🙂

This update fixed the slow boot up time on my S4, it only takes 35 seconds now, while with watchOS 6.0.1 it took around 2 minutes.

ECG app is now at version 1.50.

watchOS 5.1.2: ECG app v1.1 (initial US release)
watchOS 5.1.3: ECG app v1.2
watchOS 5.2.0: ECG app v1.10 (available in Europe and Hong Kong)
watchOS 5.2.1: ECG app v1.13 (additional European countries)
watchOS 5.3.0: ECG app v1.18 (available in Canada and Singapore)
watchOS 6.0.0: ECG app v1.30
watchOS 6.0.1: ECG app v1.30
watchOS 6.1.0: ECG app v1.50

Ok with Apples recent track record, who’s going first 🙂
You mean this year
More like the last 5 years. Let's see, there have been bricked iPhones, CPU throttling on Macs, critical security vulnerabilities discovered less than 24 hours after release, iPhones being used to spy on others without their knowledge.... Apple's software quality has been an issue for a long time now. iOS 12 was the exception that proved the rule.
As great as that is, everyone else who has not updated yet should wait. Let someone else facecheck this update for the day until we know for sure. You'd like to think Apple double checked this one after the HomePod debacle, but truth is:

would you rather update immediately and potentially lose out on your watch for a week while it ships there and back, or just update tonight after we find out that it's good to go?
Even given what I just said above I'd be willing to give it a shot. But considering I'm currently snowed in and won't be able to drive down the block, let alone to an Apple Store, until at least Thursday, I think I'll sit on this update.

The update process itself has been a mess for me so far. (More so than other updates even)
Started with the "paused, will resume when connected to wifi" when I was already solidly connected to wifi issue/bug. (Iphone updated to 13.2, both on chargers with 100% battery, ample space, solid wifi connection, sitting 2 inches from each other).
Then many restarts later it started, yo-yos between, 2 days update time, down to 21min, back to 4 days.
Now it has downloaded to about a 1/4 and back to "paused, will resume when wifi's reconnected".
It's been a few hours, I'm just giving up for a while. Maybe there are just too many people trying to download right now.

iphone XS - 13.2
Apple Watch 5 - WatchOS 6.0.1

I don’t want to brick or bracelet anything... so I wait a few hours.
then I punish my wife with her update and see how it goes.
Tomorrow is my b-day so I can’t have it with my watch not giving me balloons :p
