Apple today released watchOS 8.4, the third major update to the watchOS 8 operating system that launched in September. watchOS 8.4 comes over a month after the release of watchOS 8.3, an update that added support for the Apple Music Voice Plan.

‌‌watchOS ‌8.4 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌‌.

The watchOS 8.4 update is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 3 and later like all ‌watchOS 8‌ updates.

According to Apple's release notes, watchOS 8.4 fixes a bug that could cause some Apple Watch chargers not to work as expected with the Apple Watch.

Since the watchOS 8.3 update, there have been complaints from Apple Watch Series 7 users who have noticed that their third-party chargers (and in some cases, Apple-branded chargers) are not able to charge their Apple Watches.

In some situations, the Apple Watch would not charge at all with an affected charger, and in other cases, it would charge for a few minutes and then stop. Today's update should fix both issues.

I've had a "flickering" display issue on my Series 5 for a little while, hopefully this update resolves that. Really hope it's a software problem and not the hardware!

Relatively quick download for a watch update. Now let's see how long to prepare and install.

I’ve got 8.4 installed on my Series 7, and 15.3 on my iPhone 13 Pro. Unfortunately, now my Watch is no longer connecting to my iPhone…
Both devices have been rebooted twice, and the issue still persists. When I try to connect to my Watch from my iPhone’s Bluetooth settings, it fails, and on the Watch my phone doesn’t even show up in the list of Bluetooth devices…

What the hell?!

Obviously 6.3 on Watch2, that aren’t yet vintage products as S0 and S1, won’t be upgrades ‘cause this f***ed company need to broke retrocompatibily to sells bug new products, but Watch3 that are the same old product of Watch2, but this f***ed company don’t stop to sell from 2017 to 2022 (5 yrs old crap hw) ‘cause it doesn’t know shame and can’t create a crap new poor watch instead of selling S3 and SE, it will be updated.
I hope governments are heavier with taxes and fines as much as they can, so iOS is already a cullender and the company doesn’t deserve better.

This is why I use the watch 3 only for workouts and got used to not wearing it. Less distraction is better. I prefer to fight Apple on this by not buying or using their future products unless I absolutely need it’s utility. It would at least be nice for Apple to warn users that the new OS will choke up your watch so that you can remain on the older version. The W3 was fast but now it’s been slow for the last 2 years

I own new S2 (purchased new in october 2021), S4 purchased in 2018 and S3 (also purchased in 2018) for parents.
I agree with you, I spent more times on fight with Apple sw bugs than use it, and I really tired of spent money and time on this s**t, and I had iTunes Match, Apple Tv+, iCloud 2Tb plan, HomeKit home, CarPlay car, iPhones, iPad, Macs, Airports, Watches, purchased sw (30 yrs as user).
I known that competitors are worst, but Apple is every day more like them than what it was on past, and also in past it wasn’t the best, also Jobs was at its best.
Now Apple would explain why a not vintage product couldn’t be updated, ‘cause it, one of the most capitalized company in the world, hasn’t an employer whom could spent hours or weeks to make that possible?
Really? A bilion quoted company? ???

It’s the series 7 that’s the problem . call apple

I'm glad to hear that the charging issues have been fixed.
I'm not sure if I had this issue or not. I have a little charging stand, the watch was charging fine for a while using Apple puck.

But in the past few weeks, every 3-4 minutes my watch screen would light up, "ding" and show the green circle charging screen. Wouldn't stop.

They also added new Hermès watch face

I was hoping this new release fixed the problem of your real IP being exposed when opening mail on the watch. If it was, there is no mention of it for the watch or phone release. That is a rather big security hole for "Hide My Email."

Installed update. Still won’t charge with my Amazon charger. Just flickers between charge, Watch face, enter lock code, and dings over and over and over again.

I have a 3-in-1 charger and, after updating my Apple Watch Series 7 with this latest watchOS update, the watch charger is still not working. So, for me at least, this update did not fix the issue.

When placed on the charger, the watch face indicates it is charging, but about a minute or two later, that goes away and the regular watch face appears.
